Answer Summary:

1. The purpose of Vedic culture was to connect everyone with God.

2. When the Vedic culture was prevalent all over the world, the earlier tradition  – the wife getting delivered by serving the husband and the husband alone taking initiation –  was conducive for fulfilling the ultimate spiritual purpose of the culture.  That is not the case in the contemporary culture with its aggressively non-Vedic and even anti-Vedic values.

3. For serving the purpose of the tradition, adjusting the tradition according to time-place-circumstances is itself a part of the tradition.
