As some species have become extinct what happens to those souls who have desires that those species are meant to fulfill?

Every species has some kind of desires and karma  associated with it. When a living entity’s desires and karma fits to that species, he is awarded such a body. What about the extinct species? Now nobody gets such a body, does that mean nobody has such desires and karma wherein they are allowed to take those bodies?
