Back in the 1990’s Hrdayananda Maharaja posted chapters of his Mahabharata in BTG.
As for commentary, many chapters of the first canto of Srimad Bhagavatam are about Mahabharata concerning Kunti, Bhismadev, Yudhisthira, Arjuna, etc, and Srila Prabhupada has given extensive commentary in those chapters on both the story and the personalities involved. Therein Srila Prabhupada writes, “In this age, the Mahabharata is more essential than the original Vedas.”
