Who is jagad-guru and who is not?

by December 17, 2012

Vasudeva is jagad-guru, as clearly stated here (vasudevam jagad-gurum). One who teaches the instructions of Vasudeva, Bhagavad-gita, is as good as vasudevam jagad-gurum. But when one who does not teach this instruction–as it is–declares himself jagad-guru, he simply cheats the public. Krsna is jagad-guru, and one who teaches the instruction of Krsna as it is, on behalf of Krsna, may be accepted as jagad-guru. One who manufactures his own theories cannot be accepted; he becomes jagad-guru falsely.

Jagad Guru Srila Prabhupada Ki Jaya ,

    ” वसुदेव सुतं देवं ,कंस चाणूर मर्दनम
    देवकी परमानन्दं ,कृष्णं वन्दे जगात्गुरुम ”

” Vasudev sutam devam , kansa charun mardanam
Devki parmanandam , Krishnam vande jagad gurum ”

I bow to Lord Krishna, the son of Vasudeva, who was the cause of mother Devaki’s immense happiness, and the one who killed the wicked Kamsa and Chanoora, and who is the supreme teacher or the teacher of the universe.

    ” गुरुर ब्रह्मा गुरुर विष्णु गुरु देवो महेश्वरः
    गुरु साक्षात परब्रह्म तस्मै श्री गुरवे नमः ”

The Guru is Brahma, the Guru is Vishnu, the Guru Deva is Maheswara (Shiva),
The Guru is Verily the Para-Brahman (Supreme Brahman); Salutations to that Guru.

The true meaning of Guru is “one who dispels darkness of ignorance”.
“Gu” means “darkness of ignorance” and “Ru” means “one who removes”

    ” अज्ञानतिमिरान्धस्य ज्ञानाञ्जनशालाकया
    चक्षुरुन्मीलितं येन तस्मै श्रीगुरवे नमः ”

(Salutations to the Guru) Who Removes the Darkness of Ignorance from our Blind (Inner) Eyes by applying the Collyrium of the Light of Knowledge.
By Whom our (Inner) Eyes are Opened; Salutations to that Guru.
