In today’s world ,where most people of the people have neglected spiritual values and stopped following sastras ,considering them to be their impediments for their enjoyment ,where people already are misdirected ,if we give them even a slight sign of legalizing prostitution ,then they will also use it to legalize all the other things like porn movies , gambling ,casino ,etc . so over the time ,people will not realize it anymore to be the sinful activity . then they will also invent many other benefits for having sex ,like some scientist do nowadays ,to give it as an argument for those who don’t accept it to be right . In vedic civilization ,it was all right ,matter was different ,such things were never aggravated , central theme of spiritual values were practiced by many ,so people never misunderstood such things ,and there were also not such artificial arrangements for gratifying our senses like bollywood movies , media which promotes such things in a quite positive appealing tone . but in today’s scenario ,all this things are also there , so this things will further aggravate their baser desires ,and they would indulge ,taking this to be the license, more and more freely especially youngsters will be completely lost ,and will get bewildered .
so what we should consider ,before legalizing prostitution ,is that ,we should consider whether government will take any effective measure to reduce the sexual element in the movies , will they take any measure to stop using women as the tool for the entertainment ,just as an instrument for making money ,by various advertisements and movies ,which itself is a disrespect for the women . if not ,then this things like legalizing prostitution will be definitely counter productive .

In bhagavatam 1.5.15 ,there is a instruction from narada to vyasadeva ,which says

“The people in general are naturally inclined to enjoy, and you have encouraged them in that way in the name of religion. This is verily condemned and is quite unreasonable. Because they are guided under your instructions, they will accept such activities in the name of religion and will hardly care for prohibitions. ”

Similarly ,in our case also , rather than religion ,we can equate that with government legalization , and if we grant them license to do such things ,without any spiritual knowledge being shared ,then those people who are naturally inclined to enjoy ,they will get more and more encouragement for doing such abominable activities .and over the period of time as the kali yuga will pass ,other innocent religious people ,will also by seeing those activities present in the society ,will also imitate them ,when they will not feel any taste in their dry spiritual life being practiced ,and they can well fall down .

so the ultimate things is ,will government take any measure to stop depicting sex as the means of entertainment publicly like in movies , for which currently ,there doesn’t seem any possibility ,then ,i guess ,that legalizing prostitution will do more damage than profit .

    hare krsna prabhu

Srila prabhupada did approve legalizing prostitution in order to check the senses of lusty people, so that they don’t unnecessarily rape anyone. In Srimad bhagavatam 1.11.19 ,srila prabhupada says as follows:

“This means that prostitutes are necessary citizens for the proper upkeep of society. The government opens wine shops, but this does not mean that the government encourages the drinking of wine. The idea is that there is a class of men who will drink at any cost, and it has been experienced that prohibition in great cities encouraged illicit smuggling of wine. Similarly, men who are not satisfied at home require such concessions, and if there is no prostitute, then such low men will induce others into prostitution. It is better that prostitutes be available in the marketplace so that the sanctity of society can be maintained. It is better to maintain a class of prostitutes than to encourage prostitutes within society. The real reformation is to enlighten all people to become devotees of the Lord, and that will check all kinds of deteriorating factors of life. “
