So, today’s discourse will be divided into four parts. First of all, we will try to understand the essence of Avatar.
And then, we will discuss about some of Lord Ramachandra’s Leelas. After that, we will discuss about a culture that has been going on in India for a long time. And finally, we will discuss about the relationship between Ram Navami and our life.
So, in Shreemad Bhagavad Gita, in Chapter 4, Lord Ramachandra says that he takes Avatar in this world again and again. So, in Chapter 4, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, these five shlokas explain the secret of the essence of Avatar. So, there Lord Ramachandra says that यदायदाहि धर्मस्य ग्लानेर भवति भारत अभिर्धानम धर्मस्य तदात्मानं स्रुजाम्यहम् He says that when Adharma’s growth happens, then I appear.
And why do I appear? Because of that, some people think that they don’t want to get involved in relationships or work. I want to live alone.
And most people think, what is the purpose of spiritual life? Peace, peace, peace. And they think that there is a light. I have to go and lean in that light.
And I will go there and become peaceful. But in reality, peace can never satisfy us. If a person is very upset, suppose someone is very sick, and if someone is very sick, like arthritis, even a little touch will cause pain.
Even a little cough will cause pain in the chest. And then the person thinks, if I stop all my work, then I will be free of pain. So what does that person want at that time? I want to be free of pain.
And that is why I have to give up my work. But in reality, it is impossible to move, to walk, to stop everything. And even if I do this, then I will get some relief for some time.
But as soon as the pain goes away, and I get relief, then what will I want after that? I want to do some work. How long should I sit idle like this? So here, what is the mistake of this person? His mistake is that he is understanding that I am in pain by moving my hands and feet. In reality, the pain is not caused by moving hands and feet, but by the disease in the body.
So, the disease in the body, that is why when we move hands and feet, it causes pain. If the body is healthy, then moving hands and feet does not cause pain. In the same way, the people who are individuals, the people who are formless, they think that whatever work I do, I get pain from it.
So I have to get rid of my work. I have to become idle. But it is very difficult to become an idle person.
And even if I become one, then there is not much satisfaction in it. Why? Because it is our nature to do some work all the time. So that is why, what is this fear? If we get pain from the work related to this material world, then we get scared of all the work related to this material world.
Then we cannot worship God. Because the relations that we form in this material world, we get pain from them. But if we form relations with God, then there is only happiness in that relation.
आनन्दां बुदिवर्धनं प्रतिपदं पूर्णां अमृतास्वादनं What is the reason for pain? It is not shaking hands. It is a disease in the body. Similarly, if we are getting pain in this material world, it is not because of the pain related to it.
We are forming relations in the wrong place. That is the reason for pain. If we form relations with God, then it is the reason for ultimate happiness.
And God tells us the third reason. The first one is Raag. The second one is Kroh.
The third one is Krodh. What is this Krodh? This Krodh is not that we shout at someone. Actually, what is this Krodh? That sometimes people read different texts, go to different institutions, listen to different discourses.
And generally, if they listen, they are speaking the truth. Similarly, he is also speaking the truth. He is also speaking the truth.
But they are speaking different things. What is right in this? And he thinks that actually all these people are playing with words. And there is no truth in it.
I will not get into the trouble of knowing what is spirituality. What happens is, they are not able to understand the truth. That is why they get angry.
That I will not be able to understand. And if they get angry like this, then actually they will never be able to understand spirituality. That is why God has given us the scriptures.
So, actually anyone can play with words. God has given the power to humans, to the intellect, that anyone can play with words. But that person is giving a discourse, is giving a message.
So, how much we have to see this So, those who follow the scriptures, what happens? They get attracted. And because of being attracted, they get angry. They think that I will not get into the trouble of spirituality.
Which path is truth? Which path is untruth? I don’t know anything. Actually, God is in our heart. And if we are in the right path, if we want to come in the right path, then God himself will take us.
He himself will take us to an authentic Guru. So, that is why, when Prabhupada ji was in America, so, before Prabhupada ji went to America, he had 2-3 disciples, who later became Giriya Prabhu, Kirtanand Maharaj, etc. So, before that, they were Howard and Keith.
So, they came to India. They thought that they need a Guru. And they searched a lot in India.
So, actually, when they had read Bhagavad Gita earlier, or read some Buddhist scriptures, they were thinking that all these are ancient religions. Why do they say that the whole world is a sad place? This is happiness. But when they landed in Bombay, and saw the locals of Bombay, then they understood why this is a sad place.
So, the thing is, the Pashyata culture covers the sadness of this world. If we go to a hospital, if we go to a Pashyata hospital, that hospital also looks like a 5-star hotel. And there, everyone is filled with sadness, but sadness is not visible anywhere.
But this is sadness. So, they came to India, and in India, they searched for a Guru everywhere. And, they went to many places.
They went to Haridwar, and many other places in South India. And they saw that most of the Gurus did not know English. They were in America, they knew only English.
So, they did not get any knowledge. And those who knew English, they felt that this is not spiritual at all. Actually, they just wanted to get their own experience.
So, they left. Then they went to America, and God was in their heart. God saw that this is a spiritual desire.
So, the boat from which they came, after that boat, Prabhupada Ji went to America. And in America, first Prabhupada Ji went to Butler. Prabhupada Ji was very determined.
When he was alone, at the age of 70, alone, without any money, without any acquaintance, without any organisation, he went to America alone. And he believed that if I have to give the message of Lord Krishna, then God will make a plan for me. So, he stayed in a small village in America, in Butler for some time.
After that, he went to New York. Now, at that time, Prabhupada Ji was alone. And he was living in a small loft at home.
And at that time, there was no support to promote him. And there was no place either. So, if Prabhupada Ji has to promote, how will he do it? If there is a big organisation, you have to give information to people.
Now, it is Ram Navami, you come. So, we make some notices, make some announcements. So, Prabhupada Ji did not have any such facility.
So, what was he doing? If he had to give information, there was only one way. What was it? He himself, on the streets of New York, with his crowd, he used to roam around in Bhagavad Gita. If there is anyone in New York who wants spiritual knowledge, then he will definitely come.
He will see. So, for many hours, Prabhupada Ji used to roam on the streets. So, if there is anyone, he will come.
So, this Harvard, he came there. And, he was going from the road. And, suddenly, there was a big road, he saw the other side.
So, there he saw a Sadhu. He said, I saw, how did Sadhu come? I said, did I do some drugs? How did I see Sadhu? Then, a truck came from the middle. He thought, this truck will go.
Because, he was on this side of the road. And, he was on the other side of the road, Prabhupada Ji. He thought, if this truck will go, then this Sadhu will not be there.
Because, this is my imagination. And, that truck went. And, Sadhu was there.
And, another truck came. And, that truck also went. Then, Prabhupada Ji also saw them.
He was looking towards me. Prabhupada Ji also stopped. Then, immediately, he crossed the road.
And, he asked him, are you from India? He said, yes. And, you? He said, no, I am not from India. I went to India.
So, Prabhupada Ji asked him, why did you go to India? And, suddenly, a truck, went right next to him. So, the young men of Harvard, got scared. And, they jumped to the side.
And, Prabhupada Ji, did not move at all. He was looking at them very calmly. So, when he saw, that this person, in reality, he is not on the roads of New York.
This person’s consciousness is somewhere else. There, he got such stability, that, whatever is happening here, nothing is affecting him. And, then, he asked some questions, and got the answer.
After that, Prabhupada Ji, brought all his friends, and then, the discourse started. And, like this, the Hare Krishna movement started. So, there, when Prabhupada Ji went to America, there was a place called, Tompkins Square Park.
There, there was a garden. There, Prabhupada Ji, sat under a tree. And, started doing Kirtan there.
Now, in America, who does Kirtan, who does not know, who is doing Kirtan, that is also not known. But, it was such a sweet Kirtan, that, Prabhupada Ji, was doing it with so much devotion. So, what happened? People came.
Now, Prabhupada Ji, did not have any disciples. He had taken Diksha, but, he did not even know, what is a disciple. But, he started dancing.
Now, Prabhupada Ji, was doing Kirtan, And, he did Kirtan, for about an hour. And, when he opened his eyes, then, about 200 people, in that entire garden, were dancing in Kirtan. And, even today, in Tompkins Square Park, in America, there is that place.
And, that tree, the American government, has named that tree, Hare Krishna Tree. Hare Krishna Tree. And, there, they have put a notice, that, the world-wide Hare Krishna movement, started under this tree.
So, in reality, if a person, with honesty, searches for God, then, God, will give that person, a Guru. will bring the Guru, to that person. So, the anger, that, I will get into trouble, I don’t know what it is, I don’t know.
With this feeling, we, trap ourselves. So, that is why, God says, we have to save ourselves, from these three things. Raga, anger, and fear.
And, then, what to do? Mind, Maya, Ma, Mupa, Shuddha. You, put your mind in me, take my blessings. If you do this, Many people, have already, knowledge, and become pure, That is my place, has come.
I am giving assurance to God. So, beyond this material world, is God’s place. Yaha sa sarveshu.
Yaha sa sarveshu. God says, this entire world, Nashyatsu, Avinashyasi. In many places, this entire world is destroyed, but, that spiritual world, is not destroyed.
So, to take us there, God comes here. And, when he comes here, we are not the body, we are the soul. And, on the head of the soul, there is real bliss.
But, unfortunately, we are living on the level of the body. So, in Upanishads, Shvetashyat and Upanishad, Kathopanishad, there is a description, that how, all of us, our body is compared to a tree. Samana Vrikshe Purushonimagno Nishanesho Chuti Mohiyamana Yushtam Yada Pashyatyan Namesh Masya Mahimana Mitvitashyokaha That is, there is a beautiful tree, and there are two birds on it.
And, one of the birds, is putting its beak here, and there, and whatever it sees, it is trying to eat it. And, when it keeps on eating, then, most of the flowers, are tasteless. They are bitter.
They are bitter. And, it becomes very sad. And, there is another bird, it is watching.
What is happening? It is not eating, it is just watching this bird. So, it is told in the scriptures, that, the eating bird, is all of us, the soul. And, the watching bird, is God.
So, always comes with us, and watches us. But, by watching, it is not satisfied. So, it thinks that, I have to uplift this soul, I have to bring it on the right path.
So, it is inside our heart, so, it is invisible. So, that is why, it comes to this invisible world, by taking an avatar. So, when God takes an avatar, then, in this material world, He does a lot of entertainment.
And, Lord Ramachandra, when he came thousands of years ago, so, along with his devotees, he did so many entertainments, that, first, he wrote a book named, Valmiki Ramayan. But, after that, he wrote many other books, in which, his entertainments are described in detail. And, if we see, so, the story of Valmiki Ramayan, and, the story of a simple Hindi movie, are similar.
There is a hero, there is a heroine, and, there is a villain. And, the villain, casts an evil eye on the heroine. Then, there is a war between the hero and the villain.
And, then, the hero kills the villain. So, Ramayan is similar. Ram, Sita, Ravan.
But, in reality, it is not like, Valmiki Rishi watched a Bollywood movie, and then, watched Ramayan. In reality, Lord Ramachandra tells us, that, this material world, is a representation of God. representation.
So, in this material world, whoever tries to do good deeds, they are trying to God. So, in the Leela of God, Ravan, who was there, was a villain. But, in this material world, when people try to enjoy freedom from God, then, in such movies, there are hero, heroine, villain, all of them are villains.
Why are all of them villains? What is the meaning The one, who tries to selfishness. So, in this material world, all people are selfish. They try to keeping God aside.
So, most people do not know about Ramayan, Mahabharat, the divine Leelas in these. That is why, they, do not get attracted to such But, in Ramayan, there are very beautiful stories. And, especially, the war, which is told, is a very exciting war.
And, whatever we want to enjoy, all that is there in Ram Leela. So, we, specially, Ram Chandra and Hanuman Ji, will discuss some of their Leelas. So, when the war starts in Lanka, first of all, Ravan sends his soldiers to go and fight.
And, all the monkeys defeat their soldiers. And, after a while, they all lose. So, Ravan gets very angry.
He thinks, I have to get into the battle. And, when he gets into the battle, he comes to And, he starts attacking all the monkeys. He starts all the monkeys with He is arrows so fast.
So, Sugriva comes to attack them. So, Sugriva unconscious. Then, Angad comes.
And, Angad everyone unconscious. Then, Hanuman comes. And, when Hanuman comes, Ravan looks at Hanuman and says, He is the monkey who burnt my Lanka.
So, I will destroy him as well. So, Hanuman says, Hey, Ravan, you are standing here and but you cannot kill animals. So, I will kill So, Ravan says, Hey, monkey, you talking Let’s see how powerful you are.
So, you attack and I will kill you. So, when Hanuman comes, he takes both his hands and hits Ravan on his chest. So, Ravan falls from his chariot.
And, when Ravan falls, then, the sages in the are surprised. And, Ravan says, Hey, monkey, your power is good. You worthy You attacked So, Hanuman gets angry and says, My power is condemnation because you still alive.
So, Hanuman attacks again. So, Ravan thinks, he is not an ordinary animal. I don’t know what will happen So, he takes his mace and stops So, he attacks Hanuman and hits him on his head.
So, Hanuman falls and becomes unconscious. And, he attacks monkeys again. So, Ravan thinks, now is the time to kill Ravan.
So, Lakshman comes and says, Hey, Lord, give me a chance to fight. So, Ravan looks at Lakshman and says, Yes, you are very strong powerful demon. So, Lakshman goes and Ravan a chance.
So, Ravan says, Hey, Lakshman, good that you came to I was looking First, I will kill you then I Ram. So, Lakshman says, It is easy to but first do something. So, Lakshman attacks Ravan.
So, Ravan thinks, I will finish him Usually, people who materialistic have a lot of confidence. So, Ravan thinks, this is a one-handed game. So, Ravan.
So, Ravan is surprised. So, Ravan divine weapons. Lakshman also divine weapons.
So, Lakshman’s power. So, Lakshman attacks Ravan. So, Ravan is hurt.
So, thinks, this will So, Ravan throws Ravan towards Lakshman. So, Lakshman throws Ravan towards Lakshman. Lakshman.
So, Lakshman falls unconscious. So, Ravan thinks, I have already arrested So, if I Lakshman also, then Ravan will be so powerful that he will Lakshman. So, Ravan Lakshman.
Ravana gets a little scared and puts Lakshmana down and immediately turns back. As soon as he turns back, Hanumanji strikes him in the chest with all his strength. And as soon as he strikes, it is such a powerful strike that he starts vomiting blood from his mouth, nose and ears.
And he falls back. And instead of striking him back, Hanumanji thinks that Lakshmana should be saved. And then Ravana comes back to his senses.
What does he see? Hanumanji puts his two hands on Lakshmana’s chest and lifts him up and leaves. What has happened? I couldn’t lift him up with my 20 hands. Oh Hanumanji, you monkey! You lifted him up with two hands.
How did this happen? He thinks that he is alone here. He has no weapons. He runs and gets on his chariot.
He immediately takes his bow and starts attacking. Hanumanji takes Lakshmana to Lord Ramchandra. When Lord Ramchandra sees this, tears well up in his eyes.
And he puts his hand on Lakshmana’s head and says, Oh Lakshmana, I might get a wife like Sita, but I might never get a brother like you. Because Sita’s duty was to come with me to the forest. But you who came with me to the forest, they had gone beyond their duty.
So, when he speaks like this, Lakshmana comes to his senses. And when Lord Ramchandra sees Lakshmana coming to his senses, he says, That demon attacked you from a distance and injured you like this. And then he tells what had happened.
He says, I can never tolerate such an attack on you. I will kill that demon today. And then Hanumanji says, Oh Lord, sit on my shoulder.
Because when there is a war, they have chariots and weapons in Lanka. But the monkeys have no weapons. They carry mountains, trees, sticks, and they have no chariots.
So, Hanumanji says, I will be your chariot. Then Lord Ramchandra sits on his shoulder and he goes towards Ravana. When Ravana gives him a challenge, he says, Yes Ram, I was waiting for you.
Today I will kill you. Then Lord Ramchandra says, O coward, you are actually born in a Brahmin family, you are the son of Vishwamitra. But you are a disgrace to the family of demons.
You consider yourself to be a great warrior. A warrior never secretly abducts a woman. You are just a coward.
And today I will give you the punishment of death. And then a fierce war starts. And Ravana uses all his strength.
And Lord Ramchandra rejects all his weapons. And then Lord Ramchandra increases his attack. When he increases his attack, then slowly slowly Ravana starts getting injured.
Then Lord Ramchandra shoots arrows so fast that he breaks the flag on Ravana’s chariot. Then he breaks the crown of Ravana’s head. Then he breaks the bow of Ravana’s chariot.
When he tries to take the second bow, he breaks that too. When he tries to take the third bow, he breaks that too. Then he breaks all the bows of Ravana’s chariot.
Then he breaks the shield of Ravana’s chariot. Now he can kill Ravana with the next arrow. Then Lord Ramchandra lowers his bow.
Lord Ramchandra says, Hey Ravana, today you fought a lot of monkeys. And you are very tired of fighting all those monkeys. It is not fun to kill a tired enemy.
So today you go away. Come tomorrow, tomorrow I will kill you. So when Lord Ramchandra speaks like this, Ravana gets very angry from inside.
Oh, he is angry, he is ashamed, he is scared. I don’t know what to do. He is angry like this.
He is a small boy. You go, we will fight later. He is speaking like this.
That’s why he is angry. But he is ashamed because there is no way to fight now. And when he sees that whatever weapons I have used, nothing has happened to him.
So he is scared. Now what to do? His charioteer died. His horse died.
The wheels of his chariot broke. So he gets down from his chariot and runs away. When all the demons see that their king has run away, they also run away.
And all the monkeys follow him with a smile. Where are you running? Come now. No one listens, everyone goes inside.
So later Lord Ramchandra comes and he meets Lakshmana and Lord Hanuman. And he says to Lord Hanuman, that Ravana could not lift Lakshmana, how did you lift him? Lord, by your grace, the whole universe flies away. So because of your grace, how can I not lift Lakshmana? Because Ravana did not have your grace, that’s why he could not lift him.
Lord Hanuman is also a kind of hero in Ramayan. But how is he? He is a servant hero. And while serving, he does a lot of divine work in the service of Lord Ramchandra.
And in Ramayan, Lord Ramchandra’s entrance is through the hair. But after the hair, there are different Kandas. After that, in Kishkindha Kanda, Lord Hanuman enters.
And even in that, Lord Hanuman has a small role. What is his role? First of all, he meets Lord Ramchandra and makes him meet Sugriva. And later, when Sugriva becomes a king, he forgets his duty and Lord Hanuman reminds him.
And later, when Sundara Kanda comes, in Sundara Kanda, Lord Hanuman is a kind of hero. And in Sundara Kanda, what is the main Leela in Sundara Kanda? Lord Hanuman goes in search of Sita Mata. And in the whole of South India, he goes to Lanka, finds her, and then comes back and gives message to Lord Ramchandra.
So in all these Leelas, in Sundara Kanda, this name is Sundara Kanda, but in reality, the ocean of beauty, the source of beauty, Lord Ramchandra, is not in Sundara Kanda. In the beginning of Sundara Kanda, he blesses Lord Hanuman, that you go now. And when Lord Hanuman returns, he welcomes him with love.
So if the source of beauty is not Lord Ramchandra, then why is it called Sundara Kanda? So the reason for this is that the beauty in this material world, what is it? It is the beauty of the devotees. So here, Sita Mata is a great devotee of Lord Ramchandra, and Lord Hanuman is a great devotee of Lord Ramchandra. So how do these two meet? And how do these two rush to serve Lord Ramchandra? What we get to see here, is the divine beauty.
So we may not be able to see Lord Ramchandra yet. But when we come with the devotees, and see how the devotees are eager to serve Lord Ramchandra, then the bliss in that is the divine bliss. So when Lord Ramchandra blesses Lord Hanuman, that you go now, then only all this is accepted.
So there is a beautiful shloka in Naam Ramayana, please repeat after me. So here, what is left for us after Lord Ramchandra left? What is left for us? That or this shloka is being told. Here also, when the monkeys are going, when they are going to Kapiwar, there is no God there.
But what are they doing? They are always remembering God. And what happens by remembering God? That in their journey, whatever obstacles are going to come, God removes all of them. He removes all of them.
So this is the secret of bhakti. If we remember God, then whatever problems come, those problems go away. And we can serve God in a wonderful way.
When Hanuman ji is going to South India, then only, for a long time, he is searching, Angad is also with him, Jambavan is also with him, but he doesn’t find him anywhere. He is searching for Sita. And later, he reaches the sea.
And the sea is so vast, and he doesn’t even know what is beyond the sea. He becomes very sad. Then a very big bird, called Sampatti, tells him that Sita is beyond him.
And then what happens? Hanuman ji, till now, he has not done anything extraordinary. And then, Sampatti tells him, that the sea is very vast, who will jump into it? So Angad says, that with such a vast ocean, maybe I will be able to jump, but I will be so tired that I won’t be able to come back. The other monkeys say, that it is difficult for me to go.
And Jambavan says, that when I was young, I could have jumped into the whole universe. But now, I have become old. And then, Hanuman ji would have been calm.
And then Jambavan goes to him. And he says, Hanuman, why are you so calm? You are very powerful. You have received so many blessings.
And all these blessings, which can be used for a better future, you won’t get. So what happens? Hanuman ji, when he was a child, he used to meet all the Gods and Goddesses. And when he was a child, he used to be very naughty.
So what did he do? He used to trouble the Rishis so much, that once a Rishi used to get up in the morning and he used to leave for Pratakriya in the morning. And as soon as he reaches the door of his hut, he sees a lion there. Where did the lion come from? So what did he do? It is morning now, he has to take a bath and do Gayatri.
So he thinks, I will go out of the window. When he goes out of the window, he sees a donkey there. Where did the donkey come from? And the Rishis used to laugh at Hanuman ji.
When the Rishis used to look at him, they used to say, he is a very good man, but he is very naughty now. So what do they do? They curse him. They say, forget all your powers.
And when someone will remind you of your powers, only then you will recover. So what happens? Till now, Hanuman ji has forgotten. But Jambavan will remind him of his powers.
And then, as it is said in Ramayana, as Hanuman ji is sitting sad and calm, but as Jambavan is reminding him of his powers and the opportunity of serving God, so what is happening? Hanuman ji’s body is increasing. So Jambavan closes his eyes and tells Hanuman ji about his powers. And when he opens his eyes, Hanuman ji is not there.
Only Hanuman ji’s feet are there. So what is actually said there? That Jambavan plays the role of a Guru. And all of us are the Atma.
And all of us, the Atma, have a lot of power. But we have forgotten our spiritual power. Any physical power can bind the Atma.
But we forget our power. But when we from our Gurudev and Vishnu, then what happens? Our spiritual growth and empowerment happens. And after that, we can do a lot in the service of God.
And this is what we see in Prabhupada ji’s life. When Prabhupada ji went to America, the first people who came to him, they were all hippies. Hippie means they used to do drugs, they had all bad habits.
And such people came to Prabhupada ji. But Prabhupada ji taught them Kirtan, taught them Bhagavad Gita, taught them Tattva Gyan. And those same people, in a short time, changed so much that they went all over the world and started propagating the spiritual message.
And what Prabhupada ji did, he did not do it alone. He supported a lot of people. He inspired everyone.
But the way Prabhupada ji propagated Krishna Bhavan, this is unheard of in the history of the world. Prabhupada ji was only 11 years old. In 11 years, he went around the world 14 times.
And there are a lot of rich people who go around. But what happens is they only spend their money. But Prabhupada ji went around and changed a lot of people all over the world.
He built 108 temples. He wrote 70 books. And thousands of people became his devotees.
And when Prabhupada ji’s disciples used to tell him to go to this country and propagate. And his disciples used to go there and start propagating. And in a short time, many temples were built there.
Why? Because when Shravan Kirtan happens, it gives a divine power. So, when Prabhupada ji went to Russia to propagate, he only stayed in Russia for 5 days. Prabhupada ji, we will take his name later, he was in Russia for 5 days.
But today in Russia, there are two countries, Ukraine etc. There are so many Krishna devotees there that in reality, when there are programmes there, thousands of devotees come. In ISKCON’s International Headquarters in Mayapur.
So, what happens in Mayapur is that every year when there is a governmental programme, there used to be two divisions. Indian devotees and international devotees. So, for Indian devotees, Hindi is spoken, for international devotees, English.
But for the last 10-12 years, there have been three divisions. Indian devotees, international devotees and Russian devotees. Because there are so many devotees in Russia.
So, a big magazine, Newsweek, said that after the fall of communism, the number of Hare Krishna devotees is increasing so much in Russia that it is like a fire spreading. So, why is all this happening? Because if the devotees do Shravan Kirtan well, they get inspired and inspire others. So, Bhakti doesn’t mean that you just sit and chant and don’t do anything else.
Prabhupada says that Bhakti means service in Bhakti. And Hanumanji is the main sign of this. Prabhupada was once asked that many times, if people do Bhakti, they become useless.
So, Prabhupada said that if you have this opinion, then you don’t even know Because you see, how Hanumanji is a devotee. He does so much service to God. And he does such extraordinary and extraordinary works.
And this is the ideal of Bhakti. So, when Hanumanji goes to Lanka and comes back, then he does such a Parakram. First of all, it is very difficult to find Sita.
But he finds her. And at that time, Sita meets Prabhupada Ramachandra. And the conversation about Prabhupada Ramachandra is very beautiful.
And then, Sita Devi gives her Chudamani to Hanumanji. Hanumanji says, Please give it to Prabhupada Ramachandra. And then, they leave.
And when they are leaving, they think that they should teach a lesson to Ravana. So, they destroy Lanka. And then, they come to Prabhupada Ramachandra.
Chudamani Darshan Rama So, what happens? They come to Sita Devi and give her Chudamani Darshan. They become very emotional. And when they ask her, Hanumanji tells the whole story.
Kabhivar Vachana Shwasit Rama Kabhivar, Hanumanji gives assurance through his words. And when they listen to the story of all the stories, they become very happy. Prabhupada Ramachandra thinks, What gift will I give to Hanumanji now? He has done such a service that what gift will I give? Whatever I will give, even that is not enough for a gift.
So, Valmiki Ramachandra says, Hanumanji says, I am in the jungle now. I have nothing to give. So, I will give you only one thing.
I will give you my Alingan. So, a great Sri Vaishnava Acharya, Govind Raj, says in his Ramayan, Prabhupada Ramachandra is thinking, I, Hanumanji has done such a service, what can I give him? I wish to give him all the wealth of the earth, of the universe. But Hanumanji is a pure devotee.
What will he give him? What will he do with this wealth? He will not accept it. We all know that story. Later, when Patabhishek happens, Sita Mata thinks, Hanumanji is sitting there, Sita Mata thinks that Hanumanji should be given something.
Then, a king comes, a king of a kingdom, and he gives a beautiful pearl necklace to Sri Ramachandra. And Ramachandra gives it to Sita Devi. Sita Devi thinks, I will give this to Hanumanji.
She looks at Ramachandra. Ramachandra understands. So, he calls Hanumanji.
When he calls Hanumanji, he gives Hanumanji a necklace of jewels. So, the form of monkeys is like that of monkeys. Monkeys have done a lot of service, but the people of Ayodhya have not seen the service of monkeys.
They think that Ramachandra has gone to the forest. Why has he become friends with monkeys? Then they think, why has he given such a big necklace of jewels to a monkey? What will the monkey do with it? Then Hanumanji goes to his place and takes a big diamond. He presses it.
The diamond breaks. He throws it away. And the ministers of Ayodhya think, as the diamond is breaking, their wealth is also breaking.
They are breaking such an expensive diamond. They break one diamond. They break the second diamond.
They break the third diamond. They are breaking the entire necklace of jewels. That is why the people of Ayodhya cannot bear it.
When Ramachandra understands what is happening, he asks the people of Ayodhya, Ramachandra, what is happening? Ask them. They ask Hanumanji. Hanumanji says, these are diamonds.
They are so expensive. Some people come to the court. In reality, they are not devotees of Ayodhya.
The rest of the people go there. They say, this is a monkey. How will a monkey understand the value of a diamond? So, he asks, why are you breaking these diamonds? Hanumanji says, in reality, the real diamond for me is my lord, Sitaram.
So, I am looking if there is Sitaram in these diamonds. If there is no Sitaram, then what is the value of diamonds? That is why I am throwing them away. So, when they hear this answer, some people are very surprised how great devotees they are.
But the person who is asking, you see Sitaram everywhere. So, is there Sitaram in your heart also? Yes, of course. So, what does he see? He tears his heart immediately.
And what happens when he tears his heart? He sees Sitaram in it. And he gets surprised. And when he sees it, he sees that Sitaram is in his heart.
And later he sees that Hanuman is in Ram’s heart. And that Hanuman in Ram’s heart is full of Ram in his heart. So, he sees that Sadhavam Hrudayam Mahiyam Sadhunam Hrudayam Tadham Madhanyate Najanati Aham Devyam Anangapi It is told in Bhagavad Gita that a sadhu has a God in his heart and a sadhu has a God in his heart.
So, why does Ramchandraji let all this happen? He knows that Hanumanji does not want diamonds. And Sita Devi also knows that Hanumanji does not want diamonds. But she just wants to show her self-awareness to Hanumanji.
But what does Ramchandraji want to show? He wants to show the people who consider diamonds to be so precious that what is the value of Hanumanji. Hanumanji knows what is more precious than diamonds. So, Ramchandraji gets up and starts embracing Hanumanji.
Similarly, Hanumanji’s chest is being touched by Ramchandraji. So, whoever has a broken chest gets well immediately. And then Ramchandraji embraces him and says to him, O Ram, O Hanuman, your service is unique.
I was telling this leela because Hanumanji does not want any materialistic thing. So, Ramchandraji is thinking what should I give to Hanumanji. He thinks that my devotees want only one thing.
And what is that one thing? They want that my form is their biggest treasure. To see my form, to remember my form, this is the ultimate treasure for them. This is the ultimate for them.
So, the form on which Lakshmidevi gets her refuge, I am giving this ultimate form to Hanumanji. And thinking this, they embrace Hanumanji. And Hanumanji accepts their embrace with gratitude.
So, in reality, when we serve God, God accepts our service and gives us His love. And that love leads to ultimate bliss. And this is what Hanumanji shows through his leela.
And there is one more beautiful leela about Hanumanji. We will come to that in the end. But the stories of Ramayan and the leelas of Ramayan are so popular in Indian culture since thousands of years.
And in Ram Navami, in Vijaya Dashami, in Dussehra Utsav, there are huge number of Utsavs. There are three types of Utsavs. One is Paath, second is Katha, and third is Leela.
What is Paath? It is reading Ramayan as it is. That is also called Vrat. If Ram Navami is coming, then read the whole Ramayan.
That is called Paath. Katha means taking some shlokas of Ramayan and discussing it. And Leela or Ram Leela, what is Leela? It is the drama of Ram Leela.
And by doing drama, the people get excited. They get excited. Like this little girl did such a beautiful drama.
Of Roshi Ramchandra’s birth. So, in this way, Leelas have been going on for thousands of years. And memorising Leelas, reciting Leelas, this is the ultimate purification.
So, in Ramayan, there is a shloka that what is the glory of listening to Ramayan, listening to it, seeing it, what is its glory. So, please repeat after me. Charitam Raghunathasya Charitam Raghunathasya Shatakoti Pravistaram Shatakoti Pravistaram Ek Ek Ek Aksharam Pumsa Ek Ek Ek Aksharam Pumsa Mahapatak Nashanam Mahapatak Nashanam So, Charitam Raghunathasya Charitam Raghunathasya Shatakoti Pravistaram There are thousands of shlokas in it.
And what is the power of Ek Ek Aksharam? Mahapatak Nashanam There are big sins, they are destroyed in it. So, Shri Prabhupada ji had a wish that this Krishna Bhavana movement he is making, what should we do with it? We should reawaken this culture. For everyone, for everyone, through this culture only, with spiritual vision, we should get entertained.
And this is what, all the devotees of Belgaum are doing in a very beautiful way. Shri Prabhupada ji will be very happy. And we all can get a lot of blessings from Shri Prabhupada ji.
So, Shri Ramchandra came thousands of years ago and left. But he has given us his Leelas. He has given us his Leelas.
And specially, he has given us his name. And the power of his name, through the power of his name, we can experience the presence of Bhagwan, the power of Bhagwan, the love of Bhagwan. So, in Ramayan also, there is a big description of the Leelas of Shri Ram.
So, when Hanuman ji was thinking that will I be able to reach this big ocean or not? So, Hanuman ji tells that, by taking the name of Ram, the devotee can go beyond the ocean. So, this small ocean is not a big deal. So, Hanuman ji thinks, yes, so with the power of Ram, he can go beyond the ocean.
And after that, when he has to make Setu, then what happens? When he is making Setu, then he thinks, how will he make Setu? If we put a stone here, then the stone will sink. But Ramchandra is thinking like this. He sees that all these are monkeys.
He brings a stone. Then Hanuman ji writes Ram on the stone. Then he puts a stone there.
And the stone floats. He brings another stone. That too floats.
Ramchandra is surprised. He says, Hanuman is putting a stone and it is floating. If I put a stone, will it float or not? He thinks, what will happen if it doesn’t float? I will be insulted.
So, I will come alone at night. All the monkeys must be sleeping. Then I will come and see whether it floats or not.
So, when everyone goes to sleep at night, Ramchandra also pretends to sleep and then wakes up. Then he comes quietly. Then he picks up a stone.
He picks up a stone and puts it in the pond. It sinks. He is surprised.
He looks there. Is there anyone? Yes, there is someone. Who is it? Hanuman ji.
Hanuman ji says, Hanuman, did you see what happened? How can I not see? My eyes are always open. Then Ramchandra gets embarrassed. He says, whatever happened, don’t tell anyone.
I will tell the whole world. Then Ramchandra says, why are you embarrassing me like this? Hanuman ji laughs. Then he joins his hands and stands in front of Ramchandra.
He says, Lord, you are doing your leela. With your power, all the big planets are floating in the sky. So, it is very difficult for a stone to float.
But, you are teaching us that if your name is taken then even a stone starts floating. But, if you leave someone, what hope is there for him? So, he says, I will tell this story to everyone. What is the value of your name? Lord, your name is Why is your name greater than you? Because wherever you are not, your name is there.
The one who cannot take your refuge, the one who cannot see you, he too can take refuge in your name. And by taking refuge in your name, he can attain welfare in every way. And the glory of your name will be praised everywhere.
When Lord Hanuman speaks, Lord Ramchandra likes it very much. And he embraces him. So, Lord Hanuman says that wherever Lord Ramchandra is praised, he himself becomes present there.
Hearing Lord Ramchandra’s praise, tears come from his eyes. Tears stand up. So, Lord Ram’s name was given to us in Kalyug as Hare Krishna Mahamantra.
Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Ram Hare Ram Ram Ram Hare Hare So, by chanting and reciting Hare Krishna Mahamantra, in reality, all of us can connect with God. And by connecting, we can attain inner peace and contentment. And Lord Ramchandra comes into this world not for some time.
He comes to attract our heart. So, today, on the occasion of Ram Navami, you can pray to us that Lord Ramchandra should appear in our heart. In reality, God is always in our heart.
So, what does it mean to appear? He is in our heart, but we don’t feel his presence. So, if we pray to him with devotion, then our consciousness will be awakened and we can feel him in our heart. And when he is Param Raja, we can feel him in our heart.
So, we too, as Hanuman, can do great things in his service. So, we have one more prayer. This prayer is that how Lord Ramchandra is everything to us.
So, we will say that prayer and give rest to Lord Ram. So, I will say the prayer first, then you repeat after me. Mata me Ramo Mata me Ramo Mat Pita Ram Chandra Mat Pita Ram Chandra Mata me Ramo Mat Pita Ram Chandra Mata me Ramo Mat Pita Ram Chandra Swami me Ramo Swami me Ramo Mat Sakha Ram Chandra Mat Sakha Ram Chandra Swami me Ramo Mat Sakha Ram Chandra Swami me Ramo Mat Sakha Ram Chandra Sarva Swamme Sarva Swamme Ram Chandro Dayalu Ram Chandro Dayalu Sarva Swamme Ram Chandro Dayalu Sarva Swamme Ram Chandro Dayalu Nanyam jane Nanyam jane Naiva jane This prayer is being recited, O Lord Ramachandra, You are my mother, You are my father, You are my master, You are my friend, You are my everything, and without You I have no refuge.
Without You I have no refuge. O Lord Ramachandra Bhagwan ki Shri Ram Navami Mahamahotsav ki Shri Prabhupada ki Gaur Bhakta Vrinda ki Vitai Gaur Premanande Thank you very much.
