Demystifying Reincarnation 05 – Astonishing birth marks and birth defects
Hare Krishna. Hare Krishna.
Welcome back to our demystifying reincarnation series. We have been discussing about past life memories and we discussed about how the past life memories are not explainable by various normal explanations such as information from normal sources, guesswork and exaggeration. So, continuing the analysis of exaggeration, let us look at birthmarks and birth defects.
A fascinating finding by Ian Stevenson and subsequent researchers that a large percentage of cases of children who remember their past lives also had marks on their bodies. They put marks or defects which correlated precisely with the fatal wounds on the previous personality’s body. So, let us look at the case of Titu Singh.
Titu, when he was just a few years old, three to four years old, he was living in Lucknow and he started telling his parents that his name was Suresh Verma and that he was married and that he lived in Agra and he had an electrical shop. This was a peculiar claim that his parents just tried to neglect it and then he started insisting that he wanted to go there and if he was not taken there, he would go there alone. So, his parents sent some relatives to investigate in Agra and they found at the location where Titu had described, Titu Singh had described, they found that there was actually an electrical shop.
It was called Suresh Radio and it was run by a widow whose name was Uma and her deceased husband’s name had been Suresh. So, the details were accurate. When the relatives told Uma what Titu was claiming, she was taken aback but then she decided to investigate.
So, she came, Uma Verma came from Agra to Lucknow. When she came to Lucknow, at that time, immediately Titu recognized her and when everyone was seated to have a discussion, Titu insisted that Uma sit next to him, just like a husband and wife would sit next to each other. It was extremely odd for a small 5-6 year old boy to deal, to treat a woman like this, a middle-aged woman whom he was meeting for the first time and he started describing various details of their life and he also told about an incident when Uma and Suresh, both of them had gone for a fair.
At that time, Suresh had bought some special sweets for Uma and this incident had not been known to anybody except the two of them. Uma had not told it to anyone and nor had Suresh told it. So, on hearing this, Uma Verma was stunned and she realized that, she became convinced that this is actually something very special happening.
And then, they decided to have Titu brought to the house of Suresh Verma. So, while he was coming to the house, first they brought him to the place where the electrical shop was there and as soon as he came to the electrical shop, he started pointing out, oh, it was like this earlier, now you have made it like this. So, certain things which were kept high up, she had arranged to keep them lower so that they would be easily accessible for her.
So, Titu correctly pointed out how the shop had been earlier and how the shop had been modified. And then later on, he led the way back to the home and there he, there is a crowd of children who was playing and among them, Titu immediately recognized the children of Suresh Verma and he started rushing them and fondling their head and treating them as if they were children, where actually he was just of their age, if not younger than them. And moreover, the Verma family had arranged so that these children would be playing among other children and they wanted to test whether Titu would be able to identify.
And Titu was exactly, precisely able to identify his children and there also further, he identified many other relatives, many other people over there and acquaintances and events. And actually, this was a, this had been a, Suresh Verma had been murdered. He had, one evening, he had just come back home from his shop and he had been in his car and somebody had point blank shot him in the head.
So, the bullet had entered from his one temple, one side and come out the other side. And there had been the fatal wounds. So, because it is a murder case, it had been well documented, post-mortem had been done and the post-mortem report was there about the exact cause of the death and the location of the fatal wounds.
This whole case was actually documented in BBC, in the program 40 Minutes and the case of double birthmarks, that was the title. And what happened was that later on, when Titu’s hair was shaved and they found that he had exactly two birthmarks on the two sides of his head. And again, normally when a bullet enters into the head, it creates a smaller impact.
By the time it goes out, it creates a bigger hole. So, accordingly, so Titu had a, so there had been a smaller hole on the skull of Suresh Verma on one side and a bigger hole on the other side. And Titu also, in the same way, had a smaller birthmark on the left side and a bigger birthmark on the right side.
So, one of the judges also who came over there and started investigating, he also studied the subject, he said that actually because there is the police documentation of the location of the birthmarks and so many other details, this is among the most well-documented and persuasive cases of reincarnation. And again, significant is not just one birthmark, but two birthmarks. So, are these birthmarks that precise and what do they signify? How do they happen? So, Stevenson decided to investigate it and he divided the human body into 160 parts, you could say about XY coordinate grids.
And then he took the old body, the previous personality’s body and the child’s body. And he pointed out that actually the probability of the exact correlation between the locations of the two of them would be 1 upon 160. Because if you divide the body into 160 locations, and the correlation between the two locations has to be 1 by 160.
And he found that on many, many cases, the correlation was precise. And I will discuss towards the end another case of not just one or two, but seven precise birthmarks, birth correlations. But here, before we go to the location, let us look at another factor that is the causation.
Now, birthmarks, what are their causes? Mainstream science generally recognizes three causes. One is their genetic defects, because of which in the family itself, generation after generation, certain birthmarks or birth defects appear in the body. Then there can also be viral infection or other diseases which the mother undergoes, mother experiences during her pregnancy, which may affect the embryo in the womb.
And that may also cause some kind of scars or marks on the body, which will lead to problems. And third is that there can be tetragens. Tetragens are chemicals or alcohol or others, if are ingested during pregnancy, they can also cause damage to the embryo in form of birthmarks or birth defects.
Now, Stevenson investigated the history of the birth of these children. And he found in many cases, in most cases, in fact, none of these causes were applicable. And these causes actually, actually explain only 50% of birthmarks and birth defects.
The remaining 50% what causes them is not known. So, moving onwards, let us look at another case, which is of extremely rare birthmark. That is the case of Indika Ishwaran.
And she had a extremely rare nasal polyp. So, Indika and Kashyap Ishwaran were identical twins. They were born on 24 October 1972 in Sri Lanka, in a village about 7 kilometers from the town of Belligama.
So, now identical twins means that even among twins, sometimes two sperms enter into the embryo and two eggs are formed separately and two eggs fertilize. And then two eggs grow and that is how two embryos are formed. Sometimes one egg itself is formed and then during the growth of the egg, the egg splits into two.
So, when this happens, they are called identical twins. And in the case of identical twins, it is not at all, they are not just genetically similar, they are genetically identical. So, if they are genetically identical, that means that the genes should be able to, that genes are said to determine our biological structure, then the biological structure should be identical.
So, yet Indika, as he grew up, his parents noticed at the age of one that he had a nasal polyp. And nasal polyps are actually, they occur in children as they are unusual when a child grows old. But among small children at that age of one, it is very rare.
And as he came to the age of 3, 4, the typical age when some children start talking about past lives. So, at that time, he started saying that he lived in another place, in Ambalangoda, which was a bigger town near Balapithya. And he said that he could go there by train.
And he said he was known as Baby Mahatthai. That was his name. And he says, which meant little master.
He had an elder sister named Malakanti, with whom he had bicycled. And he had an uncle named Premasiri. And a person he called as Anchilis.
Now, I started speaking in this again and again and again, like children who remember past lives. He insisted, take me there. And when he insisted, Indika’s family did not know anybody in Ambalangoda.
So, one of his father’s friend worked over there. So, he, using the details given by Indika, decided to explore. And he found that there had been a person, Darshan Samarsekar.
He had lived and he had, when he was just 10, he had succumbed to viral encephalitis and he had died 4 years before Indika’s birth. Now, while inquiring about Darshan, when Darshan’s father came to know about Indika, he became curious and he came to meet Indika. And as soon as he came to meet Indika, he first went to Indika’s father’s shop and there they told him that, that Indika says that he is baby Mahatya.
And he was amazed because baby Mahatya was what the nickname that was used by Darshan in his previous life. And as soon as his father came to Indika’s house, Indika had been playing outside, he immediately announced to everyone, father has come. And when everyone looked at him, they found some strange person.
So, Indika was not referring to his father from this life. He was talking about his father from the previous life. He was talking about Darshan’s father.
And over a period of time, Indika went to meet Darshan’s family and Darshan came to meet Indika’s family. And over a period of time, he did many recognitions. And all that he had said turned out to be true.
One of Darshan’s uncles was named as Premasiri. And one of his aunt, she would often serve him food made with cooked chillies. And that’s why he used to call her aunt chillies.
And further, Indika went second time to visit Darshan. At that time, they had a house and outside the house, they had a compound. And without explaining anything, Indika started going at the compound outside and started scrapping on the wall.
And finally, scrapped on the wall for some time and then they found that there was a mark over there. It was written Darshan. And none of the family members of Darshan knew that there had been any such mark.
And Darshan told that he had, when the wall had just been formed, at that time the concrete was soft and in that he had written his name. So, he had done that. Now, all these are, of course, remarkable recollections and recognitions.
But most important for our discussion is the birthmark. Now, Indika’s identical twin, he did not have the birthmark. So, what was the cause of the nasal polyp? So, when Darshan was being treated, he had been sick for quite some time.
And while being treated, he had been given nasal treatment, both in terms of he had been given nasal oxygen and nasal food tube also. And at that time, that injection of, that putting that injection, that had caused him a lot of irritation. So, and the location of the nasal polyp in Indika was precisely correlating with the location where the nasal oxygen tube, oxygen injection had been given, oxygen tube had been connected to his body as well as the food had been given through that.
So, again, the point is that this correlation, although it is not as stunning, suppose having as two bullet wounds exactly in the same location is often eye-popping evidence. This may not seem, a nasal polyp may not seem so eye-popping, but actually its significance lies in its rarity, that it is such an unusual birthmark and the fact that his birthmark, this birthmark was not present in the identical twin means that it was not caused by genes. So, it correlated with the previous personality’s wound which was there on his body in that life.
So, it is very significant. It has no known material cause and from the reincarnation perspective, there is a precise correlation which points to a cause. Now, let us look at one more case where there are not one, not two, not three, but seven correlating birthmarks.
This is the case of Nesip Ullutaskiran who was born in Adana in Turkey in 1951 and on his birth, his mother noticed that he had seven birthmarks in different parts of his body and when he was six, he started speaking about a previous life in Mersin, a city that was about 18 kilometers from Adana and he said initially his parents did not understand that he was talking about a previous life because later they understood that he was referring to himself in a previous life and in this previous life also, he had the name Nesip. So, when he earlier said Nesip has a wife, Nesip has a child, Nesip has children and he wants to go and see the children of Nesip, over it took some time to adjust to that he was referring not just to himself in future, he was referring to himself in a previous life in the past and from the age of six, he started saying this and his parents ignored his statements for six years, but finally when he was at the age of 12, he insisted, I want to go there to the house of Nesip Ullutaskiran and if you don’t take me, I will go there myself. When he said this, then his mother being worried that he may just go alone, she took him to a village near Mersin because they did not know anyone in Mersin, they took him to a village near Mersin where his father lived with his second wife, her father, that means Nesip’s grandfather, Nesip’s mother’s father lived there with the second wife and Nesip had never seen his grandfather’s second wife and as soon as he saw her, he recognized her and he said, you used to live in Mersin and telling several facts about Mersin.
Then as she started talking with him, she told that there had been living in Mersin a person named Nesip Budak and what Nesip was talking about actually referred to Nesip Budak and it turned out that Nesip Budak was a quarrelsome person and he would often drink a lot and both because of his quarrelsome nature and because of his drunkenness, he would often get into fights. So, at one time he had got into a particularly brutal fight and at that time as he was fighting with someone, that person had taken out a knife and had stabbed him at multiple places. So, when Nesip in this life was describing this, he pointed to the wound on his body and when Nesip was taken to the house of Nesip Budak, he recognized several family members over there and they confirmed that the locations of the fatal wounds on Nesip Budak’s body and of the birthmarks on Nesip’s body, they actually correlate with each other precisely.
Seven, not one, not two, but seven and further Nesip gave many precise things. He told that because of his quarrelsome nature, once he had a quarrel with his wife and he had actually stabbed her, stabbed her in her leg and when Ian Stevenson was talking about this case in Incarnation Biology, he called one of his female assistants and this female assistant went to a private room with Nesip Budak’s widow and she showed that actually on her thigh, she had a mark which had become like a lifelong scar and exactly at the same location which Nesip had said. And further Nesip exhibited all the precise emotions.
He said that he expressed great affection for Nesip’s children and Nesip Budak’s widow and after that married, remarried and Nesip was so furious about that, so when he saw the picture of Nesip Budak’s wife with her new husband, he had to pick up the photo and tear up the photo out of jealousy. So now Nesip, he was just a small child. Even if all these recognitions and emotions are not, could have somehow come about, but what about the birthmarks? Not 1, not 2, but 7. Now if you consider the probability of this, if 1 correlating birthmark, the correlate is 1 divided by 160 and 7 correlating birthmarks, the probability is 1 divided by 160 raised to 7. And Stevenson, as he wrote a multi-volume book of nearly 2,000 pages, they documented scores of cases, precise correlation between birthmarks and birth defects and often there is an eye-popping evidence of the fatal wound in the previous life and the birthmark birth defect in this life.
So the exaggeration hypothesis that okay, all these children’s past life memories, they’re just some exaggerations. Now no exaggeration can create a birthmark or a birth defect. In fact, birthmark or birth defect means that it is not created, it just is right from the birth.
And whereas, because the memories are in the realm of psychology, they can be by skeptics wished away or explained away. But when it comes to birthmarks and birth defects, they are actually very much in the domain of hard science. They are empirical, visible, notable evidence and again, they’re physically correlatable.
So that is a very strong evidence which points towards the authenticity of the memories of the past life. So we’ve discussed about the various features of past life memories. We discussed that the past life memories are not just memories, there are four things in it.
There’s recollection, recognition, behaviours and birthmarks and birth defects. And in the case of Naseeb Mudak, we see that he exhibited all of them, the recollections, the precise details of the place where he lived, with whom he lived, the recognitions, he recognized his wife and he recognized other family members and emotions, good behaviours and emotions. He exhibited jealousy, exhibited affection, exhibited possessiveness, exhibited fear and anger when talking about the murderous attack on him.
So there are appropriate emotions and behaviours and further, there is also the birthmarks and birth defects. So this comprises extremely strong evidence and does neither the expression of information, the normal knowledge, guesswork or exaggeration work. And what explanation remains? Somebody could say that all these are just frauds, that somehow the researchers and the subjects, they’ve colluded together to make a massive fraud.
So could fraud be an explanation for past life memories? That we will discuss in our next session. To summarise what we discussed today, we discussed about whether exaggeration can explain past life memories. So in that case we discussed that these are not just memories, it’s not just psychology but it’s biology.
There are birthmarks and birth defects which are having precise correlations with the fatal wounds in the previous personality’s body and which these birthmarks and birth defects don’t have any known biological cause. The known biological causes are genetic defects, infections during pregnancy in the mother or the ingestion of tetragens, chemicals such as alcohol, which may damage the embryo. When none of these factors are there, then birthmarks and birth defects can very well be seen to be of unknown cause and more than 50% of birthmarks and birth defects don’t have known causes.
So we discussed three cases. The first of Titu Singh who claimed to be Suresh Verma and who had precise birthmarks at swellings at the entry point and exit point of the bullet that had killed Suresh Verma. Then we discussed Indika Ishwar who had a nasal polyp at the same location where the Russian Samarasena had been given treatment, especially the nasal oxygen and nasal food tube.
And then we discussed Naseer Ulutsas Kiran who had seven birthmarks at the precise locations where Naseer Budhak had got fatal knife wounds. And in this way, these birthmarks and birth defects comprise powerful evidence for the authenticity of past life memories. Thank you.
