Daksha-Shiva conflict 3 – How our mind makes us sectarian – Hindi
Hare Krishna Hare Krishna So today We discussed about Daksha Pujapati Leela And we have come to the end Till then we discussed How Some people Do religious work But they do it to increase Their ego And such people Are egoistic themselves And see others as egoistic Daksha was doing yagya But yagyeshwar Was not happy His aim was To show the world How he is so religious And when he saw That Shivji did not Respect him, he got angry So now That incident was described In the second chapter Then comes the third chapter and then the fourth chapter So what happens in the second chapter That when Daksha Curses Shivji Then Shivji leaves But Nandi and others Curse Brahmins Then Brahmins curse Nandi So the series of curses starts But Shivji leaves Then When they Do Daksha Yagya Then Then All Brahmins Go to Daksha Yagya Then Daksha does not Invite Shivji Then Sometimes Such Social Occasions Like social events Then Who does he invite And who does not So We Tell what is our Behaviour towards that person So we invite some people And say That you Some people Invite you as a special guest We invite some people But We call everyone a special guest But some people are given a special honour Some people are given a special place Some people are given a special room Some people are given a special position Some people are given a special position All this In seeing Some people Through this All this is a practise And to see all this In a good way This is a Hospitality Whoever is calling a guest It is necessary to see all that. But at the same time, through this, people, many times, those against whom they have a grudge, those against whom they don't have good feelings, they have a negative attitude towards them.
So, when they don't invite Shivji, it is not right, because they are doing the yajna, they are doing the yajna, but in the yajna, there is a division of all the deities. And Daksha Shab Yadav, Daksha Shab Yadav says, you will not get a part in the yajna, and according to that, they are doing the yajna. So, Shivji was not very interested, but Sati was, she said, we should go to this festival, but they did not invite, we should not go.
What is the need to invite? This is my house, my parents are there, my brother, my sister is there, what is the need to invite them? No, no, we should not go. But Sati, started pushing, and then, when Shivji was saying no, Sati herself left. When Sati was there, her mother, her sisters welcomed her, with joy, but Daksha, did not even look at her, did not even talk to her, saw her, but did not look at her.
One thing is that, someone is so busy, that he does not even look at her. That is also a kind of ill-intention. But someone looks at her, but does not pay attention.
For example, we meet someone, and we call him Hare Krishna, and he looks at us, and leaves without saying anything. So, this is a kind of indifference. This is a kind of indifference.
And especially, Daksha, is Sati's father. And not only does he look at Sati, after that, when the Yajna starts, Sati sees that there is no division for Shivji. So, what does this division actually mean? In Bhagavad Gita chapter 3, God says, God says, He says, that when we satisfy the Gods, by doing the Yajna, then the Gods fulfil our needs.
In this way, in the Earthly world, and in the higher worlds, there is a feeling of co-operation. In Satyashkan, Hiranyakashyapu also says to his Asuras, that you go to the Earth, and do all the Yajna, and destroy all the Yajna places. Stop the Yajna.
What will happen with this? The Gods will not be satisfied. The Gods will become weak. And when they become weak, we will attack them and defeat them.
So, in a way, this is the opinion of Hiranyakashyapu. Hiranyakashyapu is not a Vaishnava, who is telling the truth. But he is trying to do some Yajna, so that he can defeat the Gods.
So, what actually happens, that the Gods, are they dependent on the Earth, for their well-being? This has happened, in a very poor country, like Somalia, which is a country in Africa. Suppose, America is a very rich country, and America is dependent on Somalia. If Somalia pays tribute to America, then America will become hungry.
So, it is not that the Gods will remain hungry, if we do not do the Yajna. What is the point here? That we all have to live in co-operation. For example, a citizen has to pay tax to the government.
So, Prabhupada says, that the Yajna is like a tax. And not paying tax, many times, in Bhagavad Gita, the word is called BALI. BALI means, BALI means, not giving animal sacrifice, BALI means, giving a tribute.
So, there is a king, and there are other small kings under him. So, the big king has to pay tribute, has to sacrifice, has to pay tax. Now, it is not that the big king will not pay tribute, will not pay tax, he will remain hungry.
But, that is a sign that all these kings accept their dependence on the king. And, if a king does not pay tribute, then what does it mean? That he is insulting the king. That I do not accept your right.
So, in the same way, when Sati sees that in that Yajna, there is no division for Shivji, then, what is that sign showing? I do not care about you, Shivji. So, she becomes very sad because of that. She is already sad because her father did not welcome her.
Secondly, because her father did not welcome Shivji. So, she becomes so sad that she gets ready to give up her body. And then, with her divine power, she gives up her body.
She says, why should I give up my body? Why should I give up my body? Because I need this body like Daksh. A person like Daksh, who respects Shivji so much, with such a body, I do not want to serve Shivji. That is why she gives up her body.
And then, there is this divine play, she gets a new body. Then, she becomes Parvati. And, Himalayan Yajna takes place.
So, she is called the daughter of the mountain. Parvati. So, then, she gets a new body.
But, here, in this play, how did Daksh become so weak, how did her heart become that even though she gave up her body, she did not stop her. So, this feeling, in reality, when we meet people, when we bow to them, we put all of them in a box in our hearts. In a room, in a box, in a category, this is a man, this is a woman, this is a Maharashtrian, this is a Kannada, this is an American, this is my Guru Bhai, this is someone else's Guru's disciple.
In this way, we put all of them in different mental categories, in mental categories. And then, in a way, this is necessary. Because, when we have to do a task, suppose there is a Kannada, and he does not know Hindi or Marathi, then we should know that he is Kannada, so that we can talk to him in Kannada.
If there is a British, then we will not be able to talk to him in Hindi. So, in a way, this categorisation is necessary. Because, the world is so complicated, the world is so difficult, that if we do not put any category in it, then we will not know how to do tasks in the world.
So, in this way, this categorisation, categorisation is necessary. But sometimes, this categorisation, for the purpose it has been done, that he is a Kannada, so that I can understand him, so that I can talk to him in Kannada. If he is a British, then I can talk to him in English.
But, in this categorisation, not only do we do it for a functional purpose, not just for functional purposes, but sometimes, through this categorisation, some of our biases, some of our different feelings, that these people are like this, he is like this, she is like this, so now, when we categorise like this, so, let's say, a person, a community, a type of society, a caste, or a group of people, we may have had a bad experience from them, that these people are crazy. And after that, whoever we meet from that type of people, from that caste, or that group, from that community, we are very careful with them. We have a lot of doubts with them.
Our feelings are very negative with them. Even if that person is honest, we say, why is he behaving like this? When he is behaving like this, it is not about them. It is about what we are associating them with.
Because of them, we are not behaving like this. In our mind, we are associating them with someone else. So, this is what happened with Daksh and Sati.
Now, Sati, when she came there, she said, I am the daughter of this house. Daksh is my father. He is my family.
So, she put herself in a mental department, that I am the daughter of this house. But Daksh put her in another department. But Daksh, I was not seeing her as my daughter.
What was I seeing? She is Shivji's wife. She is that person's wife who disrespected me. That is why, by disrespecting her, I will expose Shivji's husband.
I will show that Shivji's husband is angry. So, what happened? Here, when we are talking to others, we don't know in which mental box people have put us. So, we behave normally, but other people behave differently.
Why are they behaving like this? I am trying to talk to them nicely, but why don't they talk nicely to me? Sometimes, it may be that we made a mistake and they are angry. But even if we didn't make a mistake, what happens? They talk like this because they have put us in a box. And they have some feelings What happens then? When this happens, then people become very negative.
They become very pessimistic. Once a person was standing on a bridge, he was about to jump to commit suicide. So, another person came and said, don't commit suicide.
Why not? He said, God loves you. How do you know? He said, I am a Christian. I know that Jesus Christ loves everyone.
So, he was standing on a bridge. He said, yes, I am also a Christian. I said, very good! He said, are you Catholic or Protestant? He said, I am a Protestant.
He said, very good! I said, I am also a Baptist I said, very good! He then asked, which Baptist are you? I said, South Baptist. He then said, very good, I am also a Southern Baptist I said, which Southern Baptist are you? So, I said, I am a reformed Southern Baptist. Hey, you atheist, get lost.
Because this person was an orthodox Southern Baptist. So, what happens is, even though they are small, they all believe in the same God, in the same religion, and are in the same department. So, I will save you.
And if not, you kill me. I don't care. So, what happens is, we put all of us according to our own thoughts in a department, on a mental level.
And when we put all of us in a mental department, then according to that, our whole behaviour is with them. So, the scriptures tell us that there are three qualities of nature. Satvaguna, Pratyoguna and Tamoguna.
And these three qualities live in everyone. Now, if a person is a Hindu, or a Muslim, or a Christian, or an atheist, all of them have three qualities. Be it an Indian, or an American, or a Japanese, or a Mexican, all of them have three qualities.
Be it a man, or a woman, all of them have three qualities. So, in any big community, not all of them are the same. Some of them are in Satvaguna, some are in Pratyoguna, some are in Tamoguna.
So, our experience is with some people. And based on the experience we call all of them the same. So, the prejudice, the negative feeling, how does it arise? We have a small experience, and we get rid of it with a small experience.
We get rid of it with a small experience. We get rid of it with a small experience. So, what happens in that way? This Daksh, he was not seeing his daughter as his own daughter.
He was seeing her as his wife. When I came to America a year ago, I stayed at a place for two months. I was going there and I did college programmes there in Florida.
Some students came to me and I was talking to them. One student told me that he was in a foster home since childhood. What does foster home mean? When children are orphaned, sometimes they are adopted by a family.
But how does it happen? When a family adopts a child, they adopt him, but if he does not get adopted, then they have to adopt him. Then he has to go to another foster home. So, I asked him why he was living in a foster home.
Did your parents die in an accident? He said, no, my parents are alive. I asked him, if they are alive, then why were you living in a foster home? He said, when I was five years old, my parents got divorced. They got divorced with a lot of anger.
When they got divorced, both my parents told me that my marriage was the biggest mistake of my life. And you, they told the child, you remind me of that mistake. That is why both my parents said that I have nothing to do with you.
And, while being a parent, the child became an orphan. And then, the child protection service He was kept in an orphanage. And then, he went to a different place.
He said, I believe in God, but whenever I compare God with my parents, I do not like it. And then, the child is a soul, a human being. So, both my parents were not seeing the child as a human being.
They were not seeing the child as a relative. They were seeing the child as a child. They were remembering that mistake.
So, they put the child in a mental box so that the natural love of a parent for their child is lost. So, in this way, what happens is that our mind sometimes makes us narrow-minded. This example is very extreme.
It is not very common. But, this happened with Daksha. Her son, her daughter's husband, their natural love was lost.
So, what happens is that our mind how it thinks about people, how it puts people in a particular category, we need to understand this. We need to understand why people are behaving like this. But, sometimes, even we don't understand.
When a person looks at us, we get angry. Then, we start expressing negativity. We don't know why we are behaving like this.
So, we need to analyse ourselves. What have I experienced in my life? What is my ideology? Because of this, I behave like this. So, our mind sometimes gets in the way of our relations.
And when it gets in the way of our relations, then it starts behaving according to our behaviour. So, here, it is told that the natural relationship between the soul and the soul, and the soul are so different. So, this is the game of the mind.
Sometimes, the mind makes us more attached to someone. And sometimes, the same mind makes us more stubborn. Sometimes, people say that if you become very spiritual, then you will become very detached.
And if you become detached, then you will not care about anyone. Only then you will become spiritual. Because it is possible that sometimes people have a feeling of detachment.
Because of detachment, if they don't understand what detachment is, then they become completely careless. So, being careless and being detached are two different things. Being careless is in Tamoguna.
Being detached is in Laparvahi. What does it mean? The one we should care about, the one we have accepted as our responsibility, we should not even care about that responsibility. Being detached means when we understand a bigger purpose of life and we become attached to a bigger thing, because of that, we become attached to a smaller thing.
Suppose, there is a young man who leaves his house to serve the nation and becomes a soldier. Naturally, his parents love him. But then what happens? He leaves his parents' service to serve the nation.
In a way, this feels like detachment to him. That if something happens to me, what will happen to my parents? It should be a feeling of detachment. But if that same young man gets addicted to alcohol and because of alcohol, because of laziness, he does not care about his parents.
So, what is this? In the first case, there is detachment. In the second case, there is Laparvahi. So, what happens when he becomes Laparvahi? Then, he becomes an alcoholic.
He cares only about alcohol. He cares so much about alcohol that he does not care about anything else. In Russia, vodka is called Russia's alcohol.
So, when poverty increased in Russia, people did not revolt. Therefore, the government gave a lot of supply to vodka. You drink alcohol and get lost in your own world.
Do not try to change the world. But vodka does not come in infinite quantity. When demand and supply increased, the cost of vodka increased.
In Russia, it was shown in a documentary that the cost of vodka has increased. A young boy asked his father that the price of vodka has increased. Will you drink less? His father said, No, you will eat less.
So, what happens here is that the father loves his son but his love for alcohol has increased so much that he is ready to drink even the cost of his family's food. So, what happens is not that poverty makes us hard workers. In reality, attachment makes us hard workers.
When we are attached to something, our feelings for that thing increase a lot. But we do not have feelings for other things. We do not even have natural feelings.
So, the feeling for alcohol increases so much that the feeling for our son also increases. Similarly, in Daksha's mind, his ego, respect, and attachment increased so much that he lost his natural love for his father. So, a hard worker in reality, is very rare.
So, a hard worker becomes hard because of attachment. He becomes attached to something and when he becomes attached to that thing, he does not have his natural feelings for that thing. In this way, people become divided in their thoughts.
In western countries, there is a feeling that everyone wants their freedom. Freedom is a good thing. No one should be a slave to freedom.
But what happens in the feeling of freedom? People do anything. Now, in western countries, in America, in Europe, there is a feeling of feminism. Feminism means that women want their freedom.
Yes, sometimes it happens that women are oppressed in the family. It is very wrong. It should not happen.
But what is the opposite of this? Now, Shriya says that we want complete freedom. So, what is one aspect of this? I was going to write a book on pregnancy. At that time, I read some thoughts of the people Their thoughts have become so distorted that Prabhupada says that if a man and a woman have an illicit relationship, then what happens after that? The woman gets pregnant and the man leaves.
So, this is bad for the woman. So, according to western philosophy, being pregnant is a partiality of nature towards the woman. Pregnancy is biological slavery and abortion is technological liberation.
Pregnancy is a misogynistic slavery towards the woman. And abortion is a freedom for the woman through tantra. Therefore, abortion is a fundamental right of a woman.
It is a fundamental right of a woman. And it is strongly opposed. And it happens that if a family does not have a child, then Prabhupada says that if a woman does not have a child, then it is a matter of grief.
But in western countries, some women say that I am childless. I am a child-free woman. I am a child-free woman.
Now, what is this? Considering children as bondage is such an opposite feeling. So, this is a kind of misfortune. How does it happen? In western countries, and also in the cities of India, many people do not get married.
They do not get married. They live together. Later, when a child is born, the father dies.
And then the mother has to take care of the child alone. So, about one-fourth of the youth in America are from single-parent families. In their families, there is only one parent.
The mother and the father are the same. And most of the single-parent families are single-mother families. So, it is very difficult to take care of the child alone.
So, it may seem that it is very difficult But in reality, being a child is a privilege for a woman. It is a natural gift that allows women to raise in a natural way. It gives them a lot of joy.
So, it is not like that. They have rejected it. And then what do they do? They raise animals.
In many big cities of America, as I told you last time, the Caucasians, the Americans, their families have more dogs than women. So, what has happened? They have put children in a category. Children are a natural character of love.
Children are in another category. They are a burden. So, all the relationships have been destroyed.
Some people are like this. Some people are born in one body. Some are male, some are female.
They are born. But a male person says that he doesn't feel like a male. So, he wants to be a female.
So, he gets a surgery and becomes a female. A female says that she doesn't feel like a female. She wants to be a male.
So, she gets a surgery and becomes a male. And this is called gender bender. They change their gender.
And then they change their gender. A devotee was telling me that he was working in his office. And he had a colleague.
So, he was like that one day, when he came to the office, he was a mister. And the next day, he became a miss. Laughter Laughter Laughter Laughter So, now, he had a family.
He had a wife. So, now, he became a mister. His wife left his family.
He had two children. She also left him. So, people have such perceptions that they work according to their mental perceptions.
And when the mental perceptions start to increase in the same way, then they forget their natural feelings. Now, someone has a family, someone has children. They have lived like that for 30-40 years.
But they don't know how this happens. We can understand this when the soul comes from one body to another. Maybe in the previous birth, it was in a woman's body.
In this birth, it was in a man's body. In the previous birth, it was in a man's body. In this birth, it was in a woman's body.
So, normally, when the soul comes from one body to another, then it forgets all the feelings of the previous body. And it comes to a new body. And then it starts to recognise the new body.
But sometimes, if the soul has a strong attachment to a body, then it goes from one body to another. But, some of its perceptions are like the previous body. So, if it is in a man's body, it feels like a woman.
Or if it is in a woman's body, it feels like a man. For example, if someone comes from America to India, then he has jet lag. Jet lag means that the body functions according to the time of America.
When it is night in America, then the body is sleepy. But when it is night in India, then the body functions according to the time of America. Jet lag is similar to body lag.
The soul goes from one body to another, but the soul stays in the previous body. So, we can understand this in the previous birth. But, if the soul is in this body, then it has to work according to that body.
It has to work according to that body and then move ahead. But when the soul does not do this, the body does not accept it, then everything has to be done according to the mind. So, the natural, practical, necessary relationship, necessary structures, necessary creations, all of them start getting destroyed.
So, here, it is told that how did the soul do this kind of work? Because this was the way the mind was perceived. So, all of us have to understand what is the perception of our mind. If we get very angry towards someone, if we get a lot of love towards someone, then why is this happening? In our mind, we have put that thing or that person in one category.
Is it right or not? It is told in Bhagavad Gita, रागद्वेश विमुक्तैस्तु विशयानिन्द्रियस्चनर् आत्मवश्चेर्विदेरात्मा प्रसाधमदिकच्छति So, love and hatred will naturally come according to the body we are in. Okay. Question in Hindi Okay.
Okay. Question in Hindi Question in Hindi The mind is thoughtless. Question in Hindi So, when we act unthinkingly, that is action impelled by the mind.
Stop. So, when we think like this, the knowledge of scriptures is here and our life is here. When we think that I can follow the knowledge of scriptures here in my life, then if I get angry towards someone, then I remember, Question in Hindi There is a small trend that anger is the door of hell.
So, even if I get angry, then I don't remember. But next time when I listen to a discourse, I read a shloka, I listen to a shloka, yes, I should remember this shloka. Then the next time when I get angry, so if I remember that shloka, then what happens? I can resist that anger.
No, I will not get angry. So, in this way, by doing our own analysis, we have to check the tendencies of our mind on the basis of the scriptures. Then we can accept the tendencies that are good, we can stay away from those that are not good.
Okay. Thank you very much. Question in Hindi This was my last discourse.
So, this was my last discourse. I am leaving today. So, thank you very much for your company.
