Hare Krishna We aren’t nearly physical beings seeking sustenance safety and sex we are essentially spiritual beings seeking purpose and progress biologically all living beings have certain drives and we human beings are no exceptions first of all we seek sustenance we need food to eat then we want safety we want to protect ourselves from danger and then we have urge to for copulation and reproduction through sex however we human beings are not satisfied simply by these things alone most of society and all people in fact are infatuated with these things but not everybody stays controlled by their infatuation that is some people pull away from this and think what do I need more in life and even if we get a steady supply of sustenance, safety and sex we won’t be satisfied in the western world if we consider, most of this is readily available but still people are not satisfied seeking more and more so what do we need we actually need purpose and progress what am I ultimately living for because even with the best supply of sustenance, safety and sex eventually we will grow old and die is life meant to end with death or is there something beyond death, what is it that will give our life meaning and purpose so even if we don’t think from ultimate perspective even from a not such a long term perspective medium term perspective also, we find our life meaningful not simply by getting the needs for survival but by having something worthwhile to survive for, to live for and beyond that we want not just some purpose but also some sense of progress in that direction we see all living beings eat but human beings have created so many cuisines why, because we want to eat better food, we want progress and when people have no purpose then their life slides into meaninglessness and they even become self destructive because of that the Bhagavad Gita explains that we are spiritual beings that in 2.13 it is said 2.13 2.13 2.13 2.13 that once we understand that inside the body is the soul then bodily changes don’t disturb us so much so the more we become spiritually aware the more we focus on finding ultimate purpose and making tangible progress towards that purpose and then the bodily drives for sustenance, safety and sex, they don’t dominate our consciousness we address them as necessary and focus on spiritual growth and therein we find enduring satisfaction, that is what makes our life meaningful and joyful thank you Hare Krishna
