Gita 01.15 The Devoted See God Before They See The World The Undevoted See Only The World
Bhagavad Gita 1.15 Panchajanyam Hrishikesho Devadattam Dhananjaya Poundram Dadbhau Mahashankham Bhima Karma Vrkodaraham so here Panchajanyam Hrishikesho Sanjay is continuing to describe how the Pandavas respond to the Kauravas throwing down the gauntlet by blowing their conchshells Bhishma blew his conchshell first he described in the 12th text and followed by all the Kauravas blowing theirs then the vision shifted the focus, the camera shifted to the Pandavas side the previous verse described the Pandavas side and now the action on the Pandavas side beginning with Krishna and Arjuna is described over here that Krishna blew his conchshell Panchajanyam Hrishikesho Devadattam Dhananjaya and Dhananjaya blew his Devadattam and Poundram Dadbhau Mahashankham so Poundram Dadbhau that Poundram is the conchshell of Bhima now having said all this now it’s interesting that the series the hierarchy in which order is described Sanjay is narrating the Bhagavad Gita and indeed the whole Kurukshetra war incident to Dhritarashtra so while narrating this Sanjay focuses on on Krishna first he talks about the chariot and there also that was mentioned in the previous chariot and and so he talks about Madhava first and then Pandava later Madhava Pandava is a beautiful rhyme and in general Madhava and Pandava they are both together but who comes first in the vision that signifies also the importance so Sanjay devoted heart will be seen at the end of the Gita when he will be thrilled on seeing on seeing Krishna on remembering the Bhagavad Gita and on meditating on the Bhagavad Gita but a similar glimpse of his heart comes over here when he focuses on the Pandava sign first and foremost on Krishna in the description of the who are present first he says in the description of who is acting so if non-combatant nowhere else is any charioteer blowing the conch shell mentioned but Krishna’s blowing the conch shell is mentioned and first so Sanjay sees that actually my vision Sanjay’s vision is not a conditioned vision Sanjay is not an illusion although Krishna is not fighting Sanjay knows fully the power of Krishna and thus he stays focused he begins with Krishna he knows Krishna is the single most important person not just in the battlefield but in all of existence and thus he begins with Krishna in both the 14th and the 15th verses he will look at the remaining war field but he will begin with Krishna similarly devotees are aware of the world and they look at the factors that are involved in the world but the devotees first focus is on first vision and focused vision is on Krishna materialistic people look at the world first and after that they have some time and energy left then they may look at Krishna Duryodhana while assessing the two armies doesn’t even mention Krishna he mentions several Kaurava Pandava warriors but he doesn’t even mention Krishna just because Krishna is a non-combatant he thinks that Krishna is going to be a non-entity what can a charioteer do but Krishna’s contribution will not be dependent on his position that is Krishna’s speciality that he does not need any big position to make a big contribution he doesn’t have to be the commander of army, he doesn’t have to be the king to he doesn’t have to be the king to be focused on Krishna he doesn’t have to be he doesn’t have to be the king to make the biggest contribution even from an insignificant position Krishna can make a huge contribution and that is Krishna’s special position so Krishna is so benevolent so rather so benevolent and so potent that he without shooting a single arrow guides the one who is shooting all arrows and guides that person to victory this is especially evident in the Jaidrath incident where Arjuna shot thousands of arrows while trying to reach Jaidrath but just couldn’t reach Jaidrath and finally he reached Jaidrath when he was able to when he was guided by Krishna so devotion as well as anti-devotion we could say I demonstrated by the within the starting description of the Gita Duryodhana’s lack of devotion or lack of even any strategic deep strategic understanding of Krishna’s power that is demonstrated through his completely overlooking Krishna but Sanjay’s devotion is seen through his first beginning with Krishna and his focusing on Krishna it is not that Krishna he mentions the 14th verse and he forgets it the 15th verse also when he mentions Krishna he mentions Krishna and Arjuna he mentions them first he does acknowledge that Bhima has paundram dadbho maha shankam Bhima has a huge body and yes his tone is also huge accordingly his conch is huge and the conch also produces a huge sound so he acknowledges that but power is seen not just in strength but is also in skill in strategy a rhino or a hippo has a huge body but they are not as feared as is a tiger because a tiger combines speed with skill and strength whereas a rhino or a hippo they have huge strength huge bulk of body and huge strength but not much more than that so overall we recognize Sanjay’s devotion and can appreciate that devotion by seeing the way in which he describes the action on the Kaurava side sorry the Pandava side.
