Even after his spiritual awakening, why did Vritrasura keep fighting against Indra?
Why did Vithrasur keep fighting Indira even after Vithrasur he exhibited his own devotional awakening couldn't he have stopped fighting at that time and just accepted his death as Krishna's will answer how the lord inspires different people is a mystery and there are intimate flavors to the relationship between an exalted devotee and the lord and often those flavors are almost unknowable to everyone else so specifically if we compare Vithrasur with another character, Bhishma now Bhishma himself gave away the secret of how he could be killed to the Pandavas when they came to meet him on the 9th evening of the Kurukshetra war and yet he kept fighting it seems for a Kshatriya the honorable way to die honorable to leave this world is to die on the battlefield even when they know that death is inevitable and even if circumstances have obliged them to fight on the wrong side so Bhishma kept fighting the last moment till he fell on the bed of arrows and he lay there, even then he could have left at that time but stayed on because he knew Krishna had some service for him and he wanted to see the Pandavas enthroned that had been a fond dream fondest dream of his life so now with respect to Vithrasur at one level he was an exalted devotee, at another level he knew that there were higher forces working through him and through Indra, his opponent so he had been cursed by Parvati to become a demon when he had earlier been Chitraketu and had circumstantially laughed in wonder on seeing Lord Shiva's renunciation and seeming attachment when he was speaking about renunciation with Parvati on his lap so if we keep overall that bigger picture in mind, he wanted to end his life as quickly as possible and whether Indra would be goaded to fight nearly by Vithrasur becoming passive or whether Indra needed to feel the threat of an attacking Vithrasur to be jolted out of his stupor and then use powerful weapon that he had got from Narayan that was not so simple to know further Indra had also been caught in a chain of sins and their reactions when first he had killed Vishwaroop and he tried to distribute sinful reactions to various people so Indra also had to get a certain level of consequences for his actions and thus it meant that Indra would have to go into would have to suffer while fighting with Vithrasur and that way Vithrasur knew that in this life he had been summoned by his this life father sage Twashta to avenge the death of his other son Vishwaroop and Vithrasur felt that he had to try to do the will that his father had given birth to him for till the last moment of his life and thus he went down fighting the point is that the Bhagavatam illustrates how the inner consciousness can't always be inferred by outer circumstances at the highest level the Gopis are simple cowherd women who seem to violate even basic principles of morality decency and justice when they leave their homes to go with a man to whom they are not married at night and yet they are the top most devotees so Vithrasur seems to be like a demon in a deadly demoniac form fighting against the king of the devatas and yet he is a great devotee but actually it might seem to be a person who offended a Brahmana and was therefore cursed by another Brahmana to die till die in seven days and yet while things may go on in a particular way in their external course and the external course may not always seem favourable for a devotee but an inner course the devotee is moving closer to Krishna and that is what should be the focus of thoughtful people that is what Krishna is focusing on and that is what the Bhagavatam urges us to focus on so to summarise in the particular situation Vithrasur was inspired by Krishna to even after his Vithrasur's mutual awakening to continue externally fighting just as Bhishma continued fighting and in this case that fighting was to honour the will of his father Tvashta to deliver some consequences to Indra for his past actions and to go along with the curse of Parvati that he had got that he would be a demon in terms of body and may be to some extent in terms of behaviour but in his heart he would be a devotee and the Lord would see all these externals the internals and redeem him.
Thank you.
