Are Gita and Bhagavatam meant for less intelligent people because they are parts of smriti?
Podcast:
Are Gita and Bhagavata Meant for less intelligent people? Because they are parts of Smriti? The question is, are they really part of Smriti? That is what we need to consider Essentially They are not at all considered that simply Parts of Smriti Actually speaking The Gita, because it has been spoken By the Supreme Lord directly Is often considered to be a part of Smriti And the Bhagavatam is It is the ripened fruit of all the Vedic literature So now some people may consider it To be Smriti But If you look at its content It’s profoundly philosophical And it requires A deep level of Intelligence to understand it So in general This Categorization of Smriti and Shruti Is helpful from certain Perspectives But we cannot use that categorization To dismiss Certain books By simply saying that they are less intelligent That is not how anybody in the tradition Has seen that If they had been for less intelligent people Then why would Shankaracharya comment on it? He was quite a Rigorous Vedanti Of course he gave the Advaita Vedanta Interpretation Other scholars from the six systems of philosophy Have also commented On the On these books And that’s why It’s important to recognize That These books contain Profound wisdom As far as the Bhagavatam is concerned Yes the Bhagavatam is Even if you consider That it’s a part of the Puranas But still if you read the Bhagavatam Even Neutral scholars, academic scholars For that matter or others acknowledge that the Bhagavatam Sanskrit Is Significantly different from Puranic Sanskrit It is not like Puranic Sanskrit It is Much deeper, much richer, much more like A more elevated form of Sanskrit Which suggests that This is not Simply Something like a smoothie So Both from the way These books have been studied by Highly learned Acharyas And from the very content of these books They cannot be Simply dismissed as being meant for less intelligent people
