Are problems relative – they are big for one person small for another?
Answer Podcast
Saying that there is a problem and different people perceive the problem differently something is a big problem for me something is not a big problem for others yes again depending on where we are at different things matter to different people differently see for example if somebody is a surgeon and then if they get some if their hand gets amputated it is the end of the life for them what can I do if somebody else is not so much dependent on the hand losing a hand is a problem for everyone but how much of a problem it is going to be that will vary from person to person so that means again there is a reality and there is a perception now the reality itself has one level objective ok somebody lost a hand or somebody has got a disease whatever it is their vision has gone down they can’t see so well so now what we are talking about simply here is that our response be proportional to the magnitude of the problem now what the magnitude of the problem is will vary from person to person and that is perfectly fine you know say if before marriage I have a relationship with someone and then we break up now that is still painful but if after marriage that breakup happens it is far more painful so the breakup of the relationship is there but depending on the particular context you know if it is just a new relationship it is formed and it is not working this is amicably we can just separate it but if it is in a long time relationship has been there and then it is not going well we may have to put in much much more effort to try to rectify the relationship so the response to the problem has to be appropriate according to the nature of the problem and the nature of the problem will vary according to the situation so there is definitely relativity but the relativity does not mean that there is no reality that means the reality itself will be relative for different people but still there is a reality and that reality is what we need to address and the mind can distort our perception and prevent us from addressing that reality thank you.
