Are we compromising when we use mild words like outreach instead of Prabhupada’s standard words like preaching?

Question are we compromising when we use mild words like outreach instead of the standard word preach that Prabhupada used if we start changing words won’t we also start changing the mood and then our whole mission will become compromised after all SCOAN is meant to be a preaching movement answer Bhaktivinoda Thakur talks of the difference between Bharagrahi and Saravahi Vaishnavas Bharavahi and Saragrahi so Bharavahi are those who are burden carrying those who stick to the externals of the tradition and can’t understand that the tradition needs to present itself according to the time and place circumstance actually the tradition itself is a continuous representation according to the time and place circumstance and Saravahi are those who are essence seeking and like a swan puts aside the water and takes the milk like that the Saravahi Vaishnavas take the essence and share it with others so with respect to the essence the essential principle is that Krishna is very pleased with those who share his message with others Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu also wanted that and the devotees should definitely do that but as far as the words that are concerned the word preach has a very preachy connotation preachy means over moralizing judgmental demeaning sort of connotation the word preach was used primarily by Christians and Christians have the idea of original sin associated with them so are obsessed with sin and they there is a lot of negativity associated with that word and what to speak of Krishna conscious devotees adopting it even Christians don’t adopt it anymore many Christians they all use the word outreach now can we change the words well we simply have to words have different meanings and the meanings of words are not just preserved in dictionaries they develop in the minds of people and are shaped by the cultural associations that those words provoke so for example in the past Prabhupada would use the word cult quite frequently the cult of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu but the word cult is almost never used by devotees because it has almost untouchable sound untouchable connotation to it there was a so called Christian teacher Jim Jones called himself reverend Jim Jones and he got people to live on his own farm cut away from the whole rest of the world and then eventually he indoctrinated them and assuring them that soon there will be deliverance they will be delivered he actually he was being exposed by the police for his activities and in order to save his face he actually called upon his followers almost 1000 of his followers to commit suicide and having been brainwashed by him they committed suicide so since then in America there is a whole cult scare and that has come elsewhere also the word cult has got extremely negative connotation it refers to people who are brainwashing who are programming who are manipulating people for their own self interests and so that word we just don’t use similarly the word preach also gradually is gone well we need to retire it from vocabulary simple reason that it has a negative connotation now if we look at the content of the presentations of the Krishna consciousness movement they are not over moralizing judgmental or guilt inducing they are basically educational lefty and primarily they are illuminating so they are very different from the presentation which the word preach brings into the mind so now those devotees who primarily want to reach out to devotionally minded people itself for them there will not be any problem with the word preach so if you want to reach out to people who are more skeptical more influenced by the modern ways of thinking modern culture of skepticism then the word preach will definitely not be a positive first impression so as long as Indiranga Maharaj had a diary called diary of a travelling preacher he is of a large number of people and he appropriately changed the diary of a travelling monk so is he compromising? No he is a faithful sterling follower of Shri Prabhupada and he does his work faithfully but along with that he is also sensitive to the connotations of words and accordingly he has changed the word travelling preacher to travelling monk similarly in general Skandavati should not use the word preacher as much as possible especially when they are interacting with new people so in Back to Godhead magazine for example we never use the word preacher we either use the word outreach or we use the word sharing Krishna consciousness and if you want to identify those who have pictures you can use the word teachers mentors that way we can avoid negative connotations.
