Attachment makes us blind arrogance keeps us blind Gita 16.10
Suppose an unsuspecting passerby is going along a road and is allured by someone a person pounces on them and blinds them that would be tragic but if some other person prevents them from getting the treatment that would restore their eyesight that would be doubly tragic during our life journey such is the danger that we all may run into through two deadly attackers attachment and arrogance lets see how attachment when we are going through our life we are often allured by various temptations of various worldly pleasures if we indulge in those pleasures then we become attached to them and their attachment blinds us it fixates our vision on the object of attachment and makes us disregard everything else as for example alcoholics in their mad pursuit for alcohol often don’t realize the toll that their alcoholism is taking on their wealth on their health on their reputation on their relationships on their entire life arrogance when we are arrogant we believe that we know what we are doing in our life and that we can tackle all our problems without needing any help from anyone and this keeps us blind because sometimes when we are under the spell of attachment we need an outsider’s perspective to understand how dangerous the attachments are and also get some guidance of how to overcome them but arrogance makes us disregard the warning of such well wishers for example as long as alcoholics arrogantly deny they have an alcoholism problem they can’t be cured from it in fact they will be aggravating it a problem denied is a problem doubled, multiplied pertinently the Bhagavad Gita states that this double whammy of attachment and aversion can be deadly not only trap us in illusion but drag us into deeper illusions the Bhagavad Gita 16.10 states that we all are prone to such deadly illusions so when we are attached giving into insatiable desires and then when we are intoxicated with pride, arrogance, conceit then we become completely consumed by illusion except the temporary as everything and we engage in unwholesome unwise activities that lead us to self-destruction how can we protect ourselves from this from being thus blinded if we are already attached we can’t always give up that attachment immediately but we can still give up arrogance and at least consider whether there might be something we could improve in our life whether life might be meant for something better than what we believe more than what we believe such a modicum of humility will open us to make us receptive to Gita wisdom and the Gita stands ready to help us with principles and practices that can that help us see that we are eternal souls meant for far richer, better freer life than a life spent in craving and slaving for short-lived worldly pleasures and when we are thus guided by the Gita we can free ourselves thus by giving up the arrogance to take the wisdom of the Gita we can become free from the attachment and thus come to a much more fulfilling life Thank you
