Bhagavatam-daily 142 – 11.09.17 – Avoid frenzy by meditating on the inactivity during annihilation
In Krishna’s abode, thank you 11, 9 17 and 18 actually 17 time is non different from Krishna which is his own nature by the nature of that time Samya is equilibrium with his own energy he brings about the material energy in a state of equilibrium so in the material energy there are the modes there is goodness and other modes, passion, ignorance so normally goodness is considered to be good but even the goodness the best mode is goodness even that is neutralized at the time of cosmic annihilation by the lord through his form of time and he is Adi Purushaha he is the original primeval person Pradhana Purusheshwaraha Pradhana refers to matter in its primordial or pre-developed neutral stage Purusha refers to the living entities, Ishvara is the supreme lord, so here Pradhana Purusheshwaraha the supreme lord has been described as the lord of Prakriti and Pradhana so Prakriti and Purusha so Prakriti and Purusha are generally talked about as the two components of Sankhya Sankhya as one of the six systems of philosophy is usually not considered as theistic because there is only Pradhana and Purusha theistic Sankhya is the distinctive contribution of the Bhagavatam and it is referred that Sankhya in theistic terms with the supreme lord as a third being beyond Pradhana and Purusha that is talked about repeatedly in the Bhagavatam so Sankhya basically analyzes matter and understands that there is some living being who is analyzing matter, therefore there must be a conscious being that is a Purusha, so Purusha and Pradhana are the two two living beings basically we could say or two things in existence not living beings Prakriti or Pradhana so Pradhana is basically Prakriti in a unmanifested form so Prakriti and Purusha are the two ontological realities within Sankhya analysis so matter and consciousness we could say in the Mahabharata it is explained that Sankhya is of three types 24 Sankhya, 25 Sankhya and 26 Sankhya, 24 Sankhya is where the Prakriti is considered to be the ultimate reality and Purusha is ultimately considered to be just an emergent phenomena from Prakriti and that Purusha ultimately has no existence eternally has no absolute existence and liberation means dissolution of the Purusha so 24 Sankhya is one kind of Sankhya 25 Sankhya is where there is Purusha and Prakriti but there is no Ishwara so liberation means simply the Purusha gets disentangled from Prakriti and that is the end of material existence but then there is the 26 Sankhya which is talked about in Bhagavatam that means 24 elements plus the Purusha which is the soul and then there is the Ishwara that is supreme lord so Pradhana Purusheshwara so the word Pradhana has two meanings sometimes it means chief so we should not think that he is a chief this phrase this phrase comes also in the Vishnu Sahasranama as one of the names of Vishnu so we should not think Pradhana is an adjective for Purusheshwara for the Ishwara of the Purushas not like that Pradhana and Purusha are two components and Ishwara is the lord of both so matter, consciousness and the absolute truth this tripartite division of reality is the defining framework of Sankhya as explained in the Bhagavatam and in the heart duality that characterizes 25 Sankhya Prakriti and Purusha have nothing in common and somehow they have become entangled and their entanglement is the cause of misery and the purpose of sadhana of any kind of spiritual practice is to bring about a divorce of Purusha and Prakriti so there is a heart duality there is complete difference between matter and spirit however the theistic Sankhya does not accept this heart duality there is no doubt there is difference between matter and spirit but there is similarity because we are both energies of the Supreme Lord so in that sense when we say we are energies of the Supreme Lord what that means is that we have a commonality as Bhagavad Gita talks about in 7.4 and 5 so we have a commonality in our source in our master both matter and spirit have that similarity Purusheshwaraha so if our focus stays on matter and trying to enjoy matter then we become bound but when our focus shifts from trying to control matter to surrendering to the controller of matter we are minute controllers the Ishwaraha, the Supreme Lord who was referred to as Eko Narayano Deva in the previous verse that Lord Narayana when our focus shifts to Him then we understand that actually He is the Supreme Controller and He is the controller of matter and He is my controller also so rather than I trying to become an independent controller if I surrender to Him, if I harmonize with Him then in that I can experience the truth I can avoid frustration because by cooperating with Him because His control is supreme so by cooperating with Him I will always I will avoid frustration because His will will reign supreme and if I harmonize my will with Him in devotion then doing His will will become expression of love and will become a means to joy a means to happiness and in this way we can move forward in our spiritual in our journey through life so essentially the focus of this analysis of the relationship of the Lord with the world is so that we can develop the right relationship with the Lord and with the world so kalena atmanubhavena so when we see so many changes happening in this world the sun rises, the sun sets, the seasons change, sometimes there is heat, sometimes there is cold so beyond these changes which we see within the framework of our finite life span, there are our small life span, there are big changes which happen at the cosmic level also and kalena atmanubhavena they happen by the Lord’s power manifested to Trine and He will bring all the dynamism that happens in our minds and bodies and in our worlds the Lord will bring it to equanimity samyam nitasu shaktishu so by His all His energies, by His omnipotent will, will come to a state of equilibrium, of neutrality of inactivity so at that time nobody exists except Him and nothing acts except His actions so at that moment all the hallucinatory dreams that the living entities have of trying to control matter are all are exposed as false are exposed as futile so rather than waiting for, rather than setting ourselves up for frustration by trying to be independent controllers not even the sattvadi svadi purusha, even sattva even living in sattva and trying to control ideas rather than to control people or control things even that will not lead to any lasting achievement or fulfillment because even the mode of sattva will become silenced by the potency of the Lord and therefore we need to turn from this material world to the Supreme Lord to the one who is pradhana purusheshwara and by taking shelter of Him we can attain ourselves we can attain samya not in terms of just becoming inactive but samya in terms of becoming unagitated by material ups and downs and staying spiritually focused, spiritually purposeful and spiritually joyful while in this world and ultimately attaining spiritual fulfillment in the eternal spiritual world thank you
