Bhagavatam-daily 157 – 11.09.32 – Sharing spiritual knowledge enriches both student and teacher
And our understanding will become complete thank you this is uddhava gita going on krishna is speaking to uddhava and krishna is narrating an ancient historical incident where an old king in the seminal king in the yadu dynasty named yadu himself he had a conversation with the brahmanas that conversation is getting concluded and how the two part is being described in this verse iti uptva having spoken thus so yadu vipras so the the that and that vipra spoke to yadu king yadu tam amandir gabhir dhi tamamandriya bidding farewell to him gabhir dhi gabhir dhi means one who was grave very sober deep whose intelligence was deep whose wisdom was deep so the king offered him obeisances the king worshipped him the king he went he was satisfied in mind just as he had come he departed so the relationship between the spiritual master the disciple is founded on respect with reverence and maharaj yadu had asked questions to him about how he was living how he had got realizations how although he had ability and strength and intelligence still he was living like a avadhuta so what were his realizations which inspired him to live like this and the avadhut brahmana shared his realizations with maharaj yadu now after having shared those realizations as he had come by his own accord he departed now actually in chaitanya bhagavatam described that when the tiruttika brahmana came to the house of lord chaitanya mahaprabhu when chaitanya mahaprabhu was a small infant as nimai so jagannath mishra welcomed that brahmana and asked him from where he had come how he was so he said i just wander wherever my heart inspires me to go and jagannath mishra stated that actually it is lord krishna who inspires you from within the heart and you have come to bless a householder like me now please honor me by taking prasad at my house so um actually so from internally however the lord inspired him maharaj yadu came and this avadhut brahmana had come there to where maharaj yadu was and then he departed so having spoken thus so he had spoken what did he speak he spoke about his 24 ordinary gurus so vishwanatha chakrathakar explains in his commentary what all he had learned from the different gurus he says that i have learned detachment from eight spiritual masters the pigeon fish deer the young girl elephant snake moth and kurari bird and i have learned both renunciation of the temporary and acceptance of the eternal from three three spiritual masters the honeybee the honey thief and pingala and i have learned how to cultivate interest in supreme lord from the other spiritual masters beginning with the earth so essentially the relationship listens to two things which are two fundamental things for our well-being it is detachment from the material and attachment to the supreme lord and from some spiritual masters the emphasis on one thing detachment more in some cases it was primarily attachment to the supreme and from others it was a combination of the two and bhagwatini stated that the supreme auspiciousness for the soul in this world is detachment from matter and attachment to krishna so that is what the avadhut brahmana has learned from his spiritual masters and that’s what he has taught to maharajyadu and amandrya so he did not want anything from maharajyadu although maharajyadu was a great king and he could have got whatever he had wanted from him he was such a renounced person that he did not want anything he said after giving instructions he simply departed so his mood was not to receive but to give and such saintly people who do not want anything from worldly from people who are very successful normally in this in the world’s eyes normally if somebody gets a contact gets to meet with the king then that person will think oh let me carry some favor let me develop the contact and then i can get so many important things done with from this from this contact with the king we may try to advance our business we may try to get some legal issues settled or we may try to get some things to solve our personal family problems economic issues or whatever so normally if we get in touch with some big person we want something from that big person whereas the truly saintly people they simply want to give they simply want to give krishna and so and so now maharajyadu realized that actually he had become enriched by the wisdom that this great sage this avadhut brahmana had shared with him so when he saw maharajyadu saw that this great brahmana is departing then architam vandita swarchitha vandita he offered obeisances and he did we worshipped him and for such great saintly people what can we offer apart from our obeisances that is all that we have to offer our heart’s gratitude and subordination of our ego now by their words of wisdom our illusion can be dissipated and our and we can move towards enlightenment sometimes even the great saintly people seem to come to us to ask for something they may they may say they may approach us for some donations so when they come like this we have to understand that actually they are not asking for themselves they are asking for krishna and what they are asking for is simply meant to help us all move on help us move towards krishna so in the name of asking us for donation they are giving us a connection with krishna and that connection with krishna is a matter of supreme fortune so today people may think that all these these devotees they claim to be the servant of god and god is supposed to be the greatest but when they need money they come to me therefore i am the real god i am greater than god such a notion is complete illusion so actually krishna in 16.15 the bhagavad-gita states that those who think that i will do yajna i’ll give donation and i will enjoy that way see how religious i am see how charitable i am those who think like those who use religion as a means to increase their ego they are actually they are deluded by ignorance maharaj yadu although he’s a powerful king for him such ignorance and illusion were far away he had the right reverential attitude of gratitude towards this saintly person towards all those brahmana and he therefore he offered obeisances and offered worship and then it is described how did the brahmana depart he was satisfied now when the spiritual master gives instructions or shares krishna’s glory all the spiritual master wants from us is that we also become benefited by connect by getting connected with krishna so those who are giving knowledge if they see that someone is receptive in receiving that knowledge that gives them deep satisfaction i actually the glorification of krishna is so relishable that even if the audience is not receptive still glorification of krishna benefits us how because by glorifying krishna by speaking the truths about krishna we come in contact with krishna by our speaking others also get the opportunity to connect with krishna but irrespective of whether they connect with krishna or not if we connect with krishna we get benefited we move onwards and that’s what we see in sanjay’s example sanjay he heard the bhagavad-gita as spoken and he repeated it to nutrashtra and by speaking this what happened to sanjay sanjay in 18.76 and 77 the second last and third last verses of the bhagavad-gita he stated that by hearing the conversation of the lord rajan samsutya samsutya that there is a wondrous conversation which i have heard my dear oh king oh king nutrashtra that i have heard rajan samsutya samsutya it’s coming back in my memory again and again and again again what is it’s a pious conversation it is a very holy conversation and by hearing it i am relishing it at i am being thrilled at every moment so that is the result that we too can relish or sometimes when we get too caught up in the effect that our preaching is supposed to have why are people not becoming devotees sometimes if we get too caught in the expectation of the result then we cannot relish krishna’s message because then for other krishna speaking krishna message becomes a tool to some other end no issue yes it is we want people to become closer to krishna by hearing krishna message but we should know that most important for we speak about krishna so that we can go closer to krishna and if others go closer to krishna that is a secondary benefit so we when we have that attitude krishna i speak about you so that i can come closer to you then we also will experience and by speaking about krishna we will also be always feeling satisfied pleased spiritually
