Bhagavatam-daily 256 – 11.12.13 – Devotion transcends mundane morality
Irrespective of whatever be one’s social designation that is the mercy of devotees thank you matkama ramanam jaram speaking here krishna states that matkama those who desired him they had a intense desire for attaining krishna and with that desire ramanam jaram ramanam they treated krishna as a lover treating it as such they considered him jaram as a paramour as having a relationship asvarupa vidho balaha asvarupa vidho they did not know my transcendental position krishna asvarupa refers not just to his two-handed form but to his position as the absolute truth asvarupa vidho so they did not know krishna as the all-attractive supreme and still abalaha abalaha refers to these women are often referred to as abala those were weak they were not strong abala brahmamam paramam prapahum they attained just like the absolute brahmamam when they desired krishna even if they did not know that krishna was the absolute was brahma supreme absolute still because of their intense desire to attain him they attain by association hundreds and thousands so it was not one or two gopis but hundreds and thousands of gopis who sought krishna and who attained krishna so here the question may come asvarupa vidho if the gopis do not know krishna they do not know who he is and how can they attain him what was their conception of krishna it was not a very dharmic conception they thought that our relationship is one indicator of their absorptions that they did not even consider whether it was dharmic or not it was not that they deliberately going out to do something adharmic rather they were so captivated that they did adharmic activity of apparently uniting with of seeking some other woman of someone who is not in their relationship directly the point of this example is that because it was krishna to whom they were attracted even if they did not know krishna’s position even if their conception of their relationship with krishna they consider him to be a paramour which is the very fact that it is krishna to whom they were attracted that purified them that delivered them somehow or the other fix the mind on krishna and that is precisely what krishna did over here when he that is what the gopis did over here rather on krishna when they sought to utterly absorb themselves not by consciously trying to concentrate but just by trying to respond to krishna’s call by this they ran towards him and attracted to him and their consciousness was absorbed in him and thus they attained him so krishna’s potency to transform the seemingly inauspicious into the auspicious is conveyed here when it is stated that he actually enabled his devotees to gain liberation so the important lesson that we learn is that we have to become attracted to krishna and the way in which we become attracted to him may vary according to time, place and circumstance but the important thing is that somehow or the other let us become attracted to him even if we do not understand the position of krishna of course one problem that can come is if you don’t understand the position then we may get some misconception and that misconception leads to criticism or derision then that is a problem so because we live in a cultural environment where often there are misconceptions about krishna so that we give a lot of emphasis in our situation on understanding the position of krishna and understanding how he is all attractive how he is supremely transcendent and being supremely transcendent he is able to do whatever it takes he is able to go beyond any worldly situation and take his devotees beyond all contaminations so that is the supreme potency of krishna and that is the supreme potency of love for krishna and that supremacy of krishna and of krishna prem is demonstrated by the gopis when their love which seems like adharmic becomes the supremely dharmic their love becomes the topmost love which enables them to attain the perfect zenith of perfection that personal association of krishna in the highest rasa that is the madhurya rasa so thus do we move towards and attain we too can attain by devoting ourselves to krishna in whatever way we feel attracted to him by cultivating steady absorption in him he can attain a life’s perfection thank you
