Bhagavatam-daily 311 – 11.14.3 – The knowledge beyond history manifests in history
Thank you shri bhagwan uvacha kaalena nashta pralaya vaaniyam veda-sangita mayadau brahmane prokta dharmo yasyam madatma kaha so kaalena nashta pralaya pralaya at the time of pralaya, destruction vaaniyam veda-sangita vaani, the transcendental sound of Vedas mayadau brahmane prokta that which had been spoken by me brahmane, to Brahma that was lost dharmo yasyam madatma kaha that knowledge of dharma so I spoke that again to Brahma to make it accessible once again so here Krishna is speaking about the history of that which is beyond history in this world history basically means documenting events that happen in the scope of time and that has its utility for example, Puranas and Itihasas both contain history but while talking about history it needs to be remembered that what we consider history what mainstream historians consider as history is largely the knowledge of that which happens within the time domain within material existence but beyond material existence there is another domain and that domain is supremely splendorous that domain is utterly beyond the effects of time as it is said a fraction of a moment does not pass over there the way it passes here in material existence so having recognized this that there is no fundamental discrepancy in this world greater than the discrepancy that everything here is under time so often historians try to date the Vedas and they try to date it by various ways not just when the oldest manuscript is available but also where is the oldest reference found to it which author while quoting mentions this book which author doesn’t mention this book are there any references to it found in the inscriptions so like that they try to find out the ways in which various ways in which they date the scripture now such dating methods can have their utility but it’s important to understand that scripture is a living text and in one sense it’s not even text it’s sound the vaniyam as Krishna says over here so that vani exists beyond creation unlike material sound which is manifested after creation takes place spiritual sound exists beyond the world of matter and thus exists even when there is no time because it’s beyond time and that trans-chronological nature of spiritual wisdom is pointed to by Krishna over here when he states that actually this knowledge existed even before this creation came into existence now we know Brahma is the creator and material existence is cyclic in many ways just as the days and night cycle, month cycle, year cycle similarly creation and destruction also move around cyclically and when they move about thus then the important thing is that before creation also before intermission there was destruction before that destruction there was existence of creation so the spiritual wisdom vaniyam exists outside the cycle of creation and destruction and it is periodically manifested within this cycle Krishna is saying over here that in the previous cosmic cycle this knowledge was lost and how was it lost? Krishna also talks about a similar theme in the Bhagavad Gita by the power of time it was lost what this means is that the supreme knowledge which is the highest benediction for everyone in existence the supreme knowledge is the greatest although it cannot be affected by time in terms of its transchronological existence but its existence within the arena of time its manifestation, its accessibility within the arena of time can be interrupted ultimately for knowledge to be manifested in this world there have to be people who are living carriers and demonstrators and conveyors of that knowledge so okay carriers, demonstrators, conveyors that means they live and through their life they teach this knowledge and thus it moves onward generation after generation and sometimes the knowledge gets lost and when it is lost it needs to be re-axed it needs to be made re-available in the Bhagavad Gita Krishna talks about how within the same creation there he is talking about so in the Bhagavad Gita he doesn’t talk about knowledge being given to Brahma and he is not talking about the cycling from one universal lifespan to another universal lifespan he is talking about even within the same creation within one manvantara the knowledge can be lost and Krishna makes that knowledge accessible once again so here Krishna would go on and say that I keep periodically making this knowledge accessible just as I did after it had become inaccessible at the last pralaya at the next srishti I made it accessible and similarly I will make it accessible to you
