CC daily 151 – M 6.215-219 – Sarvabhauma jubilantly accepts the triumph of the heart over the head

Thank you Madhya Lila text 215 chapter 6 entitled the liberation of Saro Bhattacharya so in the previous verses Saro Bhama Bhattacharya has glorified Lord Chaitanya as being supremely merciful as being supremely potent he has profusely praised Lord Chaitanya for delivering him and in this way the incident of Lord Chaitanya's delivering Saro Bhama of transforming him from an impersonalist to a personalist concludes what follows will be the that means the concluding part and this concluding part of the story is also very instructive because it will demonstrate in a very emphatic way a thorough transformation of Saro Bhama so let us see how the incidents take place so here firstly Chaitanya Mahaprabhu returns to his abode where he was staying and then Saro Bhama conveys his request to Gopinath Acharya requesting that O Lord Chaitanya please come to my place for prasad bhiksha kar aila Saro Bhattacharya had earlier also called Lord Chaitanya for prasad but he is calling now he is in a very different mood earlier it was in the mood that he is a sanyasi I am a grasta and I need to serve a sanyasi that is the culture but now he understood O this is my lord and he himself had become devotional disposed so naturally he was eager to seek the supreme fortune of inviting the lord to his house for prasad and that is what he did Aaradhina Prabhu Gela Jagannath Darshane Darshana Kareela Jagannath Shayothane so it is text 216 so at one level Saro Bhatt inviting Lord Chaitanya to his house for prasad that itself indicates his service attitude immediately after being defeated at once we could say if you are taking it from an intellectual perspective he was defeated but he was delighted he was not dejected because he saw in the defeat a higher victory the victory of the heart over the head the victory of truth because he understood that the devotional conclusion was the highest conclusion of the Vedic literature and so he had come to truth and he was grateful and his gratefulness there was no resentfulness at being defeated in the debate there was gratefulness that he had understood the truth and that is demonstrated in his immediately calling Lord Chaitanya to his house for prasad and now after describing that incident another incident which demonstrates Saro Bhauma's transformation is being narrated so on another day Lord Chaitanya went to the temple of Jagannath for taking darshan, Shayothane so it is early morning darshan, shaya is rest to sleep utthane is to get up so when the lord gets up from his sleep at that time early morning, that is what we could call in our language Mangalarthi darshan so Lord Chaitanya went to take the early morning darshan of Lord Jagannath and then 217 so Chaitanya Mahaprabhu was a sanyasi and actually sanyasis are respected when they come to temples special regard is given to them and now his fame had spread all the more because this was a sanyasi who got only associated with Saro Bhauma which itself Saro Bhauma was the major priest in the major respected religious authority in Jagannath being an intimate associate of the king so he now that he was not only associated with Chaitanya Mahaprabhu but Saro Bhauma had been transformed by Chaitanya Mahaprabhu so naturally the pujari gave all the more attention and he gave prasada and mala he gave some food and garlands to Lord Chaitanya and Lord Chaitanya was naturally jubilant to receive that how merciful is my lord he has given me his mercy thinking thus Lord Chaitanya was delighted so at the end of his cloth Lord Chaitanya tied the mala and the prasada so he was a sanyasi he was not carrying about bags so he just tied the things to his own cloth and now he was thinking of sharing this mercy with Saro Bhauma and that's why he animated by the thought he quickly went to the house of Saro Bhauma so the rising of the moon or rising of the sun so the lord wakes up in the brahma time to give darshan so by the time Lord Chaitanya went to the temple at that early brahma murta time had darshan got the prasada came out of the temple it was by that time was sunrise normally there is one one and half hours between brahma murta and sunrise so now it was sunrise and in the sunrise by the time of sunrise when Lord Chaitanya came to the house of Saro Bhauma on that day he had just woken up at that time he just woke up and so as soon as Saro Bhauma woke up he started chanting Krishna Krishna it just came out distinctly spontaneously those names of Krishna came out from the lips of Saro Bhauma and seeing this Lord Chaitanya his happiness became even greater Lord Chaitanya was already happy to have darshan of Jagannath to have the prasada of Jagannath and now to hear a person who had earlier been a non devotional impersonalist waking up and chanting the names of Krishna it's one thing to chant when we are in the temple but as soon as we wake up our reflex action the action that we do usually is determined by that which is the dearest to us that in which we get the greatest safety the greatest shelter generally speaking when we wake up if we want to usually our consciousness our mind is not alert and whatever is in our subconscious mind whatever is coming from our dream usually our reflexes are slow when we just wake up and our responses are often unthought and unguarded so often when people just wake up from a dream at that time what is at their deepest core is often revealed so for Sarvabhauma his spontaneous chanting of the names of Krishna at the moment of waking up indicated that Krishna bhakti had penetrated the very core of his being it was not just a conscious acceptance at a intellectual level it had also become a subconscious absorption that had penetrated to the innermost reaches of his being and thus it was that as soon as he woke up he chanted the names of Krishna and Chaitanya Mahaprabhu seeing this transformation was delighted we will continue in our next session.
