CC daily 175 – 6.261 – Accepting responsibility for our misery opens our heart to mercy
Thank you Chaitanya Chaitanya Maddalila Chapter 6261 verse entitled The Liberation of Sarovar Bhattacharya this is a quote from the Bhagavatam which Sarovar Sarovar Bhama is quoting to Lord Chaitanya Chaitanya Tattenu Kampam Susamikshamano Bhunjanevatmakrtam Vipakam Ridhvaagvapurver Vidhdam Namaste Jeevetio Bhakti Padesa Daibhag celebrated verse and the verse is actually an expression of Brahmaji's heart felt remorse his earnest repentance for having presumptuously challenged the position of Krishna so Brahmaji he this is a prayer that Brahmaji offers towards the end of the Brahma Vimohan Leela and he is he tried to challenge Krishna by taking away his Gopas and Krishna out challenged him by expanding the Gopas so all the Gopas that Brahma had taken, the Gopas and the cows they were all still there and Brahma just stunned and eventually he saw that all the Gopas had manifested as Krishna and as he understood that oh this is Krishna this is the lord supreme power whom I tried to challenge how foolish I was so normally now it was not just a challenge to Krishna's authority that would be one thing but that is bad but even worse was that actually what Brahmaji had done was almost like a kidnapping you know if a person has gone for a trip with one's friends and somebody is stealing taking away those friends then that stealing of anyone is a serious offence kidnapping someone is a culpable offence is considered extremely grave as a crime but then to speak of kidnapping someone who is under the lord's protection and is very dear to the lord so Vishwanath Chakra Thakur explains that Brahmaji's offence was especially severe because he caused the separation between Krishna and his devotees Indra also offended so Brahmaji had no intention of actually killing the Gopas he just wanted to take them away and conceal them to see what would be Krishna's response whereas Indra in his thwarted pride and the resulting fury wanted to kill the Brajwasis by inundating all of Vrindavan with water torrential water coming from Samvartaka clouds and yet in effect Indra's Indra's insolence had led to the intensified association between Krishna and his devotees because all of them were together for seven days under the Govardhan forest whereas here Krishna was separated from the Gopas, Krishna was separated from his Gopas and his cows for one year so to cause separation between Krishna and his devotees that is an offence so although of course Krishna knew what had happened and what Brahma was doing and that Krishna was not in anxiety Krishna very coolly rather than getting into anxiety himself Krishna put Brahma into anxiety but when Brahma eventually realized what had happened he realized that oh I have committed a colossal offence and then he offers various prayers to Krishna and one of these prayers is this one wherein he is now in one sense anticipating that he may be punished and he expresses his heart over here that normally when we do something wrong and we know that we are about to be punished we may try to come up with some excuse some way by which we can try to evade or at least minimize the punishment so Brahmaji here offers us an explanation or a demonstration of how to accept suffering with grace so he says tatte anukampam susamikshamano tatte anukampam this is indeed your mercy susamikshamano that ekshamano with the eyes of knowledge one should see that the punishment that one is getting is Krishna's mercy bhunjaneva atmakrutam that one should accept it, endure it atmakrutam means I have done it myself endure in the Christian tradition they often have the idea of confession and somebody is charged have you done something wrong niya kalpa oh I am guilty I plead guilty pleading guilty is done in the court but in the court of god niya kalpa means I have sinned I accept my guilt so similarly here he is saying niya kalpa atmakrutam vipakam that actually if I am going to get any punishment oh lord it is what is due to me it is what I should get for my misdeeds so lord I accept the punishment that you are giving me and atmakrutam vipakam how do I know that it is because of my own misdeed that it is coming to me so it is my misdeed in this particular, in the specific context of the prayer is that Brahmaji stolen away Krishna associates but for us we all have committed various sinful activities which in this and previous life namaste knowing that we have committed various sinful activities and knowing that namaste that we deserve whatever reactions are coming so we recognize that Krishna is not a punisher Krishna is a purifier Krishna is not a vengeful god, he is a merciful god and that's why whatever punishment is coming to us that is coming because of our own misdeeds but by Krishna's arrangement that punishment will be arranged in such a way that it will elevate us so if we can just see the problems that befall upon us as Krishna's mercy and accept even that problematic situation gratefully not resentfully vidvam upurbir vidatam namaste namaste oh lord I offer my obeisances to you with my heart, with my words and with my body that means with my complete being vidvam upurbir vidatam namaste one who lives like this muktipade sadaibhag which a person is eminently eligible for liberation muktipade daibhag, daibhag means that is the ordained inheritance of a person naturally that means when a father dies so the son the inheritance is passed on to some people and here it is said that inheritance of eternal life of liberation may be passed on to that person who gratefully accepts whatever miseries comes in one's life so the mood of this verse is to accept suffering with gratitude and this is off quoted verse but in this particular discussion the mood of the verse is not important it is not relevant it is the letter of the verse not the spirit of the verse but the letter and the letter is some letters have been changed so muktipade sadaibhag is the original and here it has been changed to by Sarvabhauma while reciting to muktipade sadaibhag now how Chaitanya Mahaprabhu responds and what happens thereafter we will see in our future talks.
