CC daily 202 – 7.27-29 – The Lord tastes the devotees affection while reproaching their action
Chaitanya Chaitanya Amrit Madhya Leela chapter 7 here Lord Chaitanya is responding to the request by his devotees that somebody accompany him and 28th text 29th text 29th text so here Krishna Swami is explaining Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu concludes his response to Dhyan Prabhu's request that please take Sambandh and he says that therefore all of you should stay here none of you should accompany me you stay in Ilachal while I go to South India in one sense Chaitanya Mahaprabhu has pointed out the faults of each one of his associates and lest people not understand the subtle dynamics that are going on subtle dynamics that are based on intense affection Chaitanya Mahaprabhu immediately clarifies saying that actually this will not sorry Krishna Das Kaviraj also clarifies saying that this is not Mahaprabhu in any displeased or angry mood this Mahaprabhu is actually relishing the qualities of his devotees normally now what is the quality that Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is relishing in general it is the love of his devotees and of course each devotee is individual each devotee has a individually flavored relationship with him and within that relationship the Lord is relishing their intimate love for him now the word intimate sometimes is taken to have sexual connotation but intimate in general means very emotionally close somebody says my intimate friend that means he is a very close friend so Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is relishing their intimate love for him and how is the he is tasting it normally emotions are there in our heart but when there are actions or words corresponding to those emotions expressing those emotions then those emotions become stronger and its like a mother may only love her child but when her child comes back from home and the mother rushes to the child and they hug each other then there is an intensification of that love so similarly a here we see that the Lord is working towards making his own situation better sorry not situation better he is making the relationship sweeter although at one level he is giving the devotees a bitter pill to swallow by telling them that he cannot accompany me and also by telling them that apparently he is seeing their faults not only seeing their faults he is speaking their faults also sometimes when we love someone normally love can be expressed in different ways one of the ways we express love is that we don't want to hurt the person whom we love and sometimes speaking faults may hurt that person and desiring to avoid hurting that person we may not speak the faults at least we may speak them privately not publicly so that everybody can understand the situation so that that person can understand but in the general life that fault doesn't have to be pointed out and certainly the pointing out of the fault doesn't have to be done in the public so that everybody comes to know that not only that person had the fault but that person was also corrected for having that fault in this way the relationship can be prevented from being unnecessarily vitiated so Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is here not only pointing out the fault but he is pointing out the faults in one sense publicly but the relationship with each other is so deep and so intimate that Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu also knows that they will understand His loving words, His loving intentions underlying His words so what is the intimacy of His associates love for Him normally in a relationship with God it is understood that God is a supreme being and when God is supreme that means all of us are simply meant to obey Him what can we do apart from obeying Him so now if we are to obey Him that would mean that He is the order giver and we are His servitor and that is the way the relationship is also and we understand that that we are the servants of Krishna and that we are meant to serve Krishna but along with that there is also a deeper understanding of intimacy when somebody loves the Lord so much that rather than the position of the Lord the well-being of the Lord becomes a matter of greater concern the well-being and the pleasure so that means not just that Oh God is the master and I am the servant yes that is accepted, that is understood there is no denying that relationship but along with that relationship and underlying that relationship there is the understanding that Oh my Lord I love Him so much I care for Him so much I do not want Him to be hurt in any way, displeased in any way in discomfort in any way and if you see whatever the associates have done at one level they have either transgressed the Lord's order or they have tried to make the Lord do something when He was doing something else they turned to God Lord Chaitanya to Advaita Bhavani Shantipur instead of letting Him go to Vrindavan Jagadana Pandit wanted the Lord to use to eat opulent food and use fragrant oils Mukunda did not want the Lord to perform austerities and like that Damodar Pandit did not want did not want the Lord to behave in a way which might narrate aspersions on His impeccable character but basically while all these associates are trying to make the Lord do what do what they want, something different from what the Lord is planning or Lord is doing, still is it disobedience? No it is not disobedience, it is transcendence it is transcendence used in the service of the devotee, of the Lord because of the intense and intimate relationship of love that is there between the devotee and the Lord so as the Lord remembers how these devotees are so intimate with Him and so deeply they care for Him and that's why they act like this then when He is speaking this He is actually meditating on their intimate love and that quality of their intimate love He is relishing profusely within Himself and thus below the surface of what appears to be fault-finding is actually actually sweetness it's nectar relishing, not fault-finding but nectar relishing so the Lord is relishing the nectarian love of His devotees and in a covered way He is also sharing His own love with His devotees see in a later pastime when Chaitanya Mahaprabhu chastises Jagadanand Pandey and appreciates Sanatana Goswami then Sanatana Goswami says, oh you are giving Jagadan Pandey the sweet nectar of chastisement and you are giving me the bitter gourd of praise so Sanatana Goswami is able to recognize the intimacy and the sweetness of intimacy that underlies chastisement and that underlies here also in a similar spirit and thus the Chetan Leela prompts us to go below surface appearance to understand the depth and sweetness of the spiritual love between the Lord and His devotees thank you.
