CC daily 25 – M 91-94 – Devotee embodies opulence for the Lord, simplicity for oneself
Thank you. Chaitanya Charita Amrit Matilla, Chapter 4, Text 91 Rathri Kaale Thakurera Karaiya Shayan Puri Gosai Kaila Kichu Gavya Bhojan Madhavendra Puri has installed the deity and now he is so absorbed in the service of the deity that all day he has been engaged in that service of the Lord in various ways and as night came Rathri Kaale Thakurera Karaiya Shayan So, when the night came Rathri Kaale Thakurera Thakur is the name for Krishna.
So, normally here in the Chaitanya Charita Amrit the names Gopal and Thakur are used primarily to refer to Krishna. Krishna is also used occasionally. But Thakur and Gopal are used more.
Thakur is the name in which Krishna is called generally by the Vrajavasis and Gopal is the name of the specific deity. So, that's why those two names are used. So, Thakurera Karaiya Shayan So, Thakur was laid down.
He was put down to sleep. The deity is treated very personally and just as we have various activities and just as a mother loves a child the mother sings some lullaby and puts the child to sleep. So, like that the Lord is put to sleep.
And Karaiya Shayan there are prayers which are offered to the Lord when he is put to sleep. And after that Puri Gosai Kaila Kichuga Vya Bhojan Puri Gosai When Madhavendra Puri Karaiya he did some Gau Vya Bhojan some simple food some milk preparation Gau is cow so the product of the cow is called Gau Vya Bhojan So, Kichuga Vya Bhojan so some food was some milk preparation he took basically the point is he took some simple food Madhavendra Puri now there was so much food available it will be mentioned earlier and it has been hinted earlier it will be mentioned later and it has been hinted earlier that Madhavendra Puri lived very simply he followed Ajgara Vritti not even asking for food and even now when such opulent food was there for the deities still he is at his personal level taking very simple food and in that way he is delighting simply in the service of the lord in the worship of the lord in the loving devotion to the lord Kichuga Vya Bhojan so devotees principle is opulence for the lord and indigence for oneself indigence means simplicity it literally means poverty a devotee is not poor in the sense that a devotee's heart is filled with the supreme wealth of devotion for Krishna and the devotee doesn't want things for oneself if things can be used in the service of the lord the devotee will use anything and everything but when things are not needed then then the devotee keeps things simple for oneself so here Madhavendra Puri Kichuga Vya Bhojan although such opulent food is being cooked and offered to the lord it's time for his eating he just takes some simple milk preparation and is content in that so the devotee delights in offering the best to the lord and taking the remnants and Madhavendra Puri being a renunciate in the mood of renunciate is keeping things very simple for himself Pratah Kaale Punah Taiche Karee La Sevan Annalaiya Eka Gramer Aila Loka Gaan Pratah Kaale Punah so the next day Pratah Kaale in the morning Punah Taiche again Karee La Sevan so to serve the lord what happened Annakuta Eka Gramer Aila Loka Gaan Annalaiya not Annalaiya so bringing the food from one village Aila Loka Gaan people came so actually when one understands that the opportunity to serve is a privilege then the people are very eager to come and serve the lord and when they are eager to serve the lord at that time they come and offer the best possible service that they can Annalaiya Eka Gramer Aila Loka Gaan so they were all lined in the sequence and the next morning came and immediately people were ready it said in the morning only they had brought the food it indicates that they had been preparing the food from before itself they were eagerly waiting when is our opportunity going to come and people came and they brought the food and in that way the service to Gopal was going on opulently day after day the next verse describes what all they brought Annaghrita Dadhi Dugda Grame Tachi Gopalera Aagey Loka Aaniyadhari so Anna Anna is sometimes used generically to refer to food but Anna refers specifically to grains Anna Ghrita Ghrita is Ghee Dadhi Dugda is curd and milk and Grame Tachi Tachi as much as they had they brought it all together and offered Gopalera Aagey Loka Aaniyadhari and they brought it in front of Gopal Aagey Gopalera Aagey Loka Aaniyadhari Oh Gopal we have brought this for you please accept it so they made their fervent devotional offering through the food that they had brought and they brought it in front of Gopal so it's very visually evocative image and Aaniyadhari they brought it and placed it in front of Gopal please accept this is our service please accept this offering from us so a devotee devotee's heart itself is the ultimate offering to the Lord at the same time the devotee wants to express the devotion of the heart through outer offerings also and here the outer offerings are being given in the form of the the deity worship the offerings of Bhoga which are given and we all can think in our lives when we go in front of the Lord what is the offering that we can do whenever a devotee makes something new a devotee makes some art writes or makes some CD or a devotee builds a new house gets a new house a devotee purchases something new the idea is all this is meant for the service of the Lord these things cannot be offered in the same way as food is offered but still the mood is that whatever we are doing is a service to the Lord and it's an offering of service to him so that's what is being done over here they brought it and placed it in front of Gopal to offer to him purva dina praya vipra kari la randha tai che anna kuta gopal kari la bhojan so then purva dina praya as it happened in the previous day the same happened in the next day vipra kari la randha the brahmanas started cooking and they offered tai che anna kuta gopal kari la bhojan so now once the Gopal deity has been established so it's indicated over here that the villagers they brought the items for cooking and the cooking was done by the brahmanas normally in deity worship on special festivals everybody can bring some bhoga for the Lord and offer to him but when regular deity worship is performed normally those who are properly initiated they usually perform the deity worship even in terms of cooking for the Lord so same is being done over here the villagers had been laboring to arrange for all the ingredients and the ingredients are described they brought grains milk curd, ghee and all these ingredients then the brahmanas took and they started cooking and as they cooked and now the villagers had brought it all in profuse quantity and tai che anna kuta gopal so similarly anna kuta was performed for Gopal as it had been performed in previous days Gopal kari la bhojan so then Gopal ate all the food that were offered at the time of anna kuta and he delighted in that offering and this way the people continued delighting in making ever fresh offerings to the Lord everybody serving according to their capacity the brahmanas cooking and offering after they initiated and engaged thus by Madhavendra Puri and the people in general collecting and bringing the grains and other ingredients for offering to the Lord and in this way there was a whole devotional fervor that permeated the entire area of Rajya Thank you.
