CC daily 43 – M 4.171-174 – See fortune in not worldly possessions but transcendental reciprocations
Text 171 Madhya Lila chapter 4 Prabhu kahe nityananda karaha vichar puri sama bhagyavan jagate nahi yaar Prabhu kahe so Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is speaking all this Nityananda karaha vichar oh Nityananda just contemplate it Chaitanya Mahaprabhu had four associates with him but the most intimate the most prominent associate among them was Nityananda Prabhu so Nityananda Prabhu is also the spiritual master of Krishna Das Kaviraj Goswami so now he speaks Nityananda karaha vichar Nityananda oh Nityananda he is saying just contemplate so he addresses Shukadeva Goswami addresses Tukshit Maharaj although there are many others also present over there Sonak Suta Goswami addresses Sonak Rishi although there are many other Rishis also so like that here the focus is on Puri karaha vichar just think about it and he says what was that special thing about it Puri sambhagyavan jagate nahiya Puri sambhagyavan like Madhavendra Puri Puri sambhagyavan like him there is no one who is fortunate in general in the material world fortune is thought in terms of material assets who has how much fame how much power how much wealth and things like that and to the extent that they are there person is considered Bhagyavan however in spiritual circles wealth is measured in terms of one's spiritual assets and the top most spiritual asset is Krishna Prem and Krishna Prem is tasted in terms of one's relationship with Krishna in terms of one's capacity to love and serve Krishna by turning towards him with affection with devotion with love so when we focus on Krishna when Krishna reciprocates in some special way that is considered to be Bhagya so we will see what is the Bhagya over here दुग्धदान चले कृष्णा यान्द्रे देखती ल तीना बारे सौपनेया सी यान्द्रे आग्या कैला so there is no one in three worlds as fortunate as Madhavendra Puri that was mentioned in the previous text so in this text that particular statement is now being substantiated, quantified he said दुग्धदान चले दुग्धदान दुग्धदान for the purpose of giving with milk चले, चले is deception कृष्णा यान्द्रे देखती ल कृष्णा यान्द्रे देखती ल that Krishna came and Krishna revealed himself to him तीना बारे सौपनेया सी यान्द्रे आग्या कैला तीना बारे सौपनेया सी thrice Krishna came in his dream what are three times the dreams first was I am feeling very hot so first was that actually I am lying here in the forest second was I am feeling very hot so please get some chandan for me for pururi and third is I am not different from Gopal just offer the chandan to Gopal and I will also get it तीना बारे सौपनेया सी यान्द्रे आग्या Kaila, for Him, He gave an order. And in this way, now these are all extraordinary things. The Lord coming in the dream is special.
For most of us, if Krishna comes even once in the dream, it would be a treasured thing for us. We will relish it, we will cherish it, we will delight in it and we long, when will it, when will I be able to get such an opportunity again. So what happens here is, Krishna and His devotees taste that sweetness.
So this is the proof of His being Bhagyavan. यान्द्रप्रेमेवश्यहया प्रकट हैला। सेवांगिकारकरि जगते तरिला। So, यान्द्रप्रेमेवश्यहया, that under the control of His love, प्रकट हैला, the Lord appeared, सेवांगिकारकरि, He accepted service, जगते तरिला, and He delivered the world. So when the Lord comes as the deity, for many many generations and for many people from various places, His darshan is auspicious, His darshan is the source of deliverance, and many people can be delivered thus.
So taking darshan is the source of great joy, and a devotee can relish this joy, and a devotee enables others to relish that joy. So the point here is that यान्द्रप्रेमेवश्यहया, प्रकट हैला, सेवांगिकारकरि, जगते तरिला, so the key is प्रेमवश्य, the Lord generally does not appear in the material world, at least not to the vision of materialistic people, not to those who are at the materialistic level of consciousness, but the Lord cannot avoid appearing to those who long to see Him. So यान्द्रप्रेमेवश्यहया, so when there is love, then because of that love, the Lord cannot but appear, He simply appears, प्रेमवश्यहया, this idea of प्रेमवश्यहया has come earlier also, right in the first text of the verse itself, where it is said that the Lord appeared by, yes, the Lord was conquered by the love of Mother Indra Puri.
यान्द्रल्लाकि गोपिनात्तक्षीरकैल चूरी, अत्तएवनामहैलक्षीरचोरःरी, and now we could say that the most defining, the most extraordinary miracle the Lord did for the devotee, for him was to steal kheer, यान्द्रल्लाकि गोपिनात्तक्षीरकैल चूरी, for whom Gopinath stole kheer, अत्तएवनामहैलक्षीरचोरःरी, therefore his name became शीरचोरःरी, so idea is that the Lord is extremely fortunate, the Lord is extremely merciful, and there are various levels we could say the mercy of the Lord, somebody getting material wealth can also be said to be the mercy of the Lord, it's not that we have to divorce material things from Krishna's mercy, but we don't have to reduce them, to reduce Krishna's mercy to them alone, so it is, Krishna provides for material things, but he provides for so much more, and in this case, because people are material consciousness, when material things are given, then they may see that as mercy, O father give us our daily bread, that level of praying to God for one's daily nourishment, and when God gives that, that is also his mercy at one level, at a higher level, his mercy is not just to enable us to live in the material world, but to give us the process to leave this material world, and that process is the process of Krishna Bhakti, and so whatever support Krishna gives us for Krishna Bhakti, that is his great mercy, now, special mercy when the Lord does something extraordinary, that is comes in a dream of someone, or appears directly in some other chale, like we came to Gopal, that's one level of mercy, but there are many stories of the Lord appearing to many special devotees like this, although of course, compared to the millions of people, and the millions of years of material existence, the Lord's appearances like this are also very rare and special, but still they do happen, however, the Lord stealing ghee for someone is extremely, extremely, extremely rare, and that the Lord did something which is normally considered immoral for the sake of his devotee, is the Lord's glory, and such is the Lord's glory that the Lord's name was changed, sometimes in this world, when somebody does something spectacular, say, a batsman is a very attacking batsman and does some extraordinary feat in batting, and that person may get some name associated with that batting accomplishment or the batting talent, so normally, we are given titles or epithets or honorifics, people are given honorifics based on something extraordinary, not something ordinary, so now, the stealing of kheer for a devotee is so extraordinary, that based on that, here the name is given, the Lord got the name Shirachora Hari, sorry, Shirachora Kari, sorry, not Hari, not here, so that Shirachora Hari, that practically similar words had come at the earlier part of this chapter, and there it was said, because Gopinath steals Hari, the last lines are here, Shirachora Hari, so here it is, Shirachora Kari, he became the Lord, he stole the kheer, so in this way, this is the fortune, the Lord is ready to even transcend or give up principles that are considered morally immoral, to demonstrate the supreme glory of his devotee, Madhavendra Puri, just as the Lord could have had the Gopis as his married consorts, but he arranged that the Gopis be married to someone else, and then the Lord had them give up morality, by which their supreme devotion could be demonstrated, now in this case, we have the other way, the Lord could have arranged, to have first only come in the dream and told, give this pot to Madhavendra Puri, the Lord stole and kept it, and then later gave it to Madhavendra Puri, in this way, he demonstrated the glory of his devotee Madhavendra Puri,.
