CC daily 48 – M 189-191 – See instruction as benediction, not intrusion

Shri jaitanya charita amrit maddalila text 189 pariksha kareete gopala kaila gyan adana pariksha kariya shesha haila dayavana so pariksha kareete jaitanya mahaprabhu is speaking here about madhavendra puri and the intimate loving bond that he had with the lord so he says here pariksha kareete for examining him gopala kaila agyadaan he gave agyadaan so it's a beautiful vision here he gave the donation of instruction for krishna doesn't need to give us any instruction krishna is self satisfied he is atmaram so when he gives an instruction that is for our world that is for us to come closer to him and actually it is a agyadaan earlier the word was used agyamrit the nectar of instruction now it is used donation of instruction normally we think of instruction as an intrusion not as a donation as a burden we think oh i have to do this also but the point is it is the instruction which enables us to come closer to krishna it is the instruction which enables us to attain krishna it is the instruction that enables us to get the supreme treasure of krishna brain because by following the instruction we express whatever devotion we have and thus we intensify our devotion we move closer to krishna so pariksha for the sake of pariksha karila agyadaan gopal gave the donation of instruction and then pariksha kariya sheshe haila dayavaan pariksha kariya so for the purpose of exam he gave this instruction and then pariksha kariya sheshe after pariksha got over then after the pariksha got over then sheshe at the end of it when madana jaggui passed the exam then haila dayavaan he became very merciful now if we say the lord became merciful does it mean that he was not earlier merciful actually krishna is always merciful but his mercy manifests in different ways at different times and when his mercy takes different forms some forms we perceive as mercy and other forms we are often not able to perceive as mercy so here madana he is talking krishna swami ala chaitanya mahaprabhu is talking here and he is saying that haila dayavaan the lord became merciful what does that mean it is mercy manifested in a way which to our vision will seem as mercy to our vision if somebody gives us a very difficult instruction we will usually not think of that as mercy or on the other hand if somebody gives us some special facility some special attention then we will consider that as mercy so this puja master tells us to go to a far away place and start some puja center there oh such a difficult service sushila prabhupada sent one of his disciples serving as secretary and prabhupada told him what are you doing here go into the go to the soviet block and preach over there in the central europe and eastern europe and he thought prabhupada is sending me away prabhupada is rejecting but he went with determination and he served and then he did wonderful service and prabhupada said i was thinking what is he sitting here doing nothing but some typing he can do so much more so my point is that sometimes when an instruction is given that is also mercy but the instruction is to do something difficult we may not see it as mercy but later on sometimes the mercy becomes manifest in a way that we can also understand so later on that devotee came with phenomenal preaching reports and it's translated many of prabhupada's books translated and prabhupada was so pleased he said you are the foremost among the grandsons of lord prabhupada prabhupada was so pleased with him such is the nature of the lord so that we will consider as mercy great appreciation spiritual master has done that is mercy definitely but the earlier instruction was also mercy but here because the mercy manifested in a way which we can understand so it is said that he became merciful ay bhakti bhakta priya krishna vyavahar bhuji hit aama sabar nahi adhikar ay bhakti bhakta so ay bhakti with those who have this kind of devotion bhakta priya krishna vyavahar so vyavahar is activity or reciprocation the relationship between the lord and between the devotee and his beloved lord when the caliber of devotion is so exalted so deep then bhuji hit aama sabar nahi adhikar so bhuji hit understand aama sabar for all of us nahi adhikar we cannot understand this now lord chaitanya is the supreme lord himself now we may say that he is not playing the role of the lord, he is playing the role of a devotee but even as a devotee he is a peerless devotee even devotees who are much more elderly than him like adhvaitacharya and even idyan prabhu, shrivastakar they all accept him as a leader and chaitanya mahaprabhu has taken sanyas and at a very young age and he has exhibited phenomenal renunciation phenomenal devotion yet lord chaitanya mahaprabhu is saying that as compared to the exaltedness of the love of madhavendra puri and the intimacy of his relationship with the lord bhuji hit na, i say i cannot understand this and we all cannot understand it aama sabar nahi adhikar so actually when he says that he cannot understand he understands its greatness and that's why he is saying its so great that we can't understand so the depth, the intensity and the sweetness of krishna's love for his devotees, the devotees love for krishna is something which we may analytically appreciate a little bit but we cannot experientially for that we ourselves have to become pure and for that we ourselves have to become advanced and enter into that level of devotion then only we will be able to understand etabali padhe prabhu tandra krita shlok ye shloka chandra jagat kariya che alok and then etabali after speaking this padhe prabhu padhe means to read out chaitanya mahaprabhu spoke out or read tandra krita shlok a verse that was composed by madhavendra puri so ye shloka chandra this shlok is like a chandra, its like a moon shloka chandra is a implied comparison, so its a metaphor over here ye shloka chandra jagat kariya che alok this alok, it means spreads the light, illumines shows the way, so this verse is chaitanya mahaprabhu started reciting and relishing the verse so the verses especially verses that describe the qualities or the moods or the attributes of exalted devotee, they can become templates instant templates for us for meditating on those devotees and chaitanya mahaprabhu narrated this pastime and the intensity of the love of madhavendra puri which was manifested through this pastime that is concentrated in this particular verse and chaitanya mahaprabhu speaks this verse and he says that this verse is relished by madhavendra puri and this verse he himself relishes, so in the next few verses he will glorify the verse further and he will recite the verse, so when we want to we want to glorify some devotee, meditate on some devotee if we take, if we especially are attracted to some characters in the scriptures then we can try to find out corresponding verses about them and one verse two verse which can become a readymade template for us for meditating on them, for seeking their blessings, for calling out to them for internalizing ourselves, their mood of devotion, their mood of service their exalted qualities chaitanya mahaprabhu also after describing describing the pastime and describing the extraordinaryness and exaltedness of the love between gopal and madhavendra puri now will express the intensity of that love of madhavendra puri through a condensed capsule of nectar, what that we will discuss in our next talks.
