CC daily 91 – M 6.64-72 – Sarvabhauma takes responsibility for Lord Chaitanya
Thank you Darshan Chaitanya Mahaprabhu has just Entrusted himself to the care of Sarvabhauma Telling him that, just as you protected me from the Disaster that Might have happened in the temple today When I fell unconscious You protect me in all respects I have come here to Accept you as my Guru You teach me Vedanta So Sarvabhaum Bhattacharya now Takes up That responsibility and first he tells Gopinath Acharya That take Chaitanya Mahaprabhu Gosair Karai yaha darshan Take him so that he can have Darshan, Chaitanya Mahaprabhu said that I will take darshan from the Garuda Stambha only Now Sarvabhaum Bhattacharya Ascends to that and he says When he can go and take Darshan and then He Plans A residence for Lord Chaitanya Amara matra swasagraha Swasagraha Nirjana sthan Taha vasa deha kara sarva samadhan So Amara Matra swasa, matra swasa is Maternal aunt Her house Is at a secluded place And nirjana sthan It is quite secluded Taha vasa deha Arrange for his residence over there Kara sarva samadhan And Make sure that all arrangements are made Satisfy him properly So Chaitanya Mahaprabhu Asks that Sarvabhaum Bhattacharya That you take care of me So the first care that Sarvabhaum Bhattacharya takes is He arranges a residence for Lord Chaitanya In essence Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is a sanyasi A travelling sanyasi He does not have a He has just come to Puri And he needs a place of residence So he deliberates And he gives the house of his Maternal aunt Currently Nobody is staying there And he says this is nirjana sthan So the primary quality That he is Appreciating of that house is nirjana It is at a secluded place Now sanyasi Sanyasi are often Considered to be People who are socially dead In the Mayavad sampradaya When a person takes sanyas In many of the Mayavad traditions When a person takes sanyas that person actually Lies down on a funeral pyre A funeral pyre is made and the person lies down on it And then Of course the pyre Is not burnt The person lying down on the funeral pyre Indicates that That person is now Is now dead Socially dead So sanyasi don't mix with general society That's why Sarvambhut Tijara is saying that There is a slightly secluded place Nirjana sthan will be Good for Chaitanya Mahaprabhu So he arranges that place And he says whatever necessary arrangements are there Make sure that all of them are made Sarva Samadhana Kaila So accordingly Gopinathacharya Took Chaitanya Mahaprabhu After he had darshan of Jagannath To that place And then Sanyasis needs are very few So he arranged for water And he arranged for a water pot and other things Sarva Samadhana Kaila And in this way he satisfied Lord Chaitanya Chaitanya Mahaprabhu had earlier also expressed his desire for simplicity When he had stated that Give me some lafra vengean Give me some simple food Boiled vegetables So now when he is staying in The cottage of Sarvambhut Tijara's maternal land He does not have any needs Those needs are easily satisfied by Gopinathacharya 67 Ardina Gopinath Prabhu sthane giya Shayothana darshan karai lalaiya So Ardina the next day Gopinathacharya Went to the house of The house where Chaitanya Mahaprabhu was staying And Shayothana darshan Shaya Is waking up Shayothana darshan means The darshan when Jagannath Rises up early in the morning So Gopinathacharya thought that Chaitanya Mahaprabhu Will like to have this darshan It's a intimate darshan And it's a very auspicious way To begin the day To Behold the lord as he wakes up And begins his day So karai lalaiya So he took lord Chaitanya to have darshan of Jagannath Early rising in the morning Mukunda dattalaiya Aila sarvabhauma sthane Sarvabhauma kichchu tandre Ballila vachane So then Mukunda dattalaiya Mukunda also Mukunda also came along Picking him up along the way Aila sarvabhauma sthane They had darshan And then they came to the place of Sarvabhattacharya And sarvabhauma kichchu tandre Ballila vachane And Sarvabhattacharya spoke some words To him This is to Mukunda dattalaiya Prakriti vinita sanyasi dekhi te sundar Amara bahupriti bade Imhara upar So Prakriti vinita His nature is so humble Sanyasi dekhi te sundar He is a sanyasi and he is so attractive Amara bahupriti I am feeling great affection Affection for him bade There is great affection And it is also increasing Imhara upar My affection for him every time I see him Every time I behold him it is increasing So now One of the Signs of humility of Lord Chaitanya was that When he took sanyas from Kishabharti In the In Kishabharti In the Bharatiya sampradaya there actually it is Brahmacharis who have the name Chaitanya And Chaitanya Mahaprabhu Retained that name Chaitanya Even after he took sanyas So That indicates his humility Even though he was sanyasi he had a name Of someone who was a humble servant of sanyasi So brahmacharis normally Assistants of sanyasis In this case Because his humility was there In his demaner as well as In the very name that he had taken Sarvabhattacharya appreciated that Konasam Sampradaya sanyase Kariyache nagrahan Kibana mai har Shunite hai man So Konasampradaya In which sampradaya Sanyase kariyache nagrahan In which sampradaya has he taken sanyas Kibana mai har Shunite hai man Now What is his name He desired to know it Shunite Hai man My mind desires to hear this So, now, normally, in today's worldview, where people don't know much about sannyas, they just think of the sannyasi as a sannyasi who has announced the world. But, even among sannyasis, there are orders. Sannyas is itself a matter of prestige, but from which sampradaya one has taken sannyas, that also determines the level of prestige that a sannyasi will get.
It's like, say, if somebody is a PhD, that person, that PhD degree has respectability. But then, if somebody is a PhD from a mediocre university or from a top-notch university, that makes a lot of difference further. So, similarly, sannyas in itself is glorious, but from which sampradaya it is, that also he wants to know.
And, kiba naama ihar, I want to know his name. So, actually, Prabhupada, in his purport, anticipates how Sarvabhauma Bhattacharya's humility will grow when he will hear that the sannyasi has kept the name of Chaitanya. Gopinatha kahe naama Shri Krishna Chaitanya, Guru ihara Keshava Bharati Mahadanya.
So, actually, it is Gopinathacharya who had brought Mukund Dutta with him. And, the question has been asked, why is Sarvabhauma Bhattacharya to Mukund Dutta, to Gopinathacharya? Because he is much more familiar with Gopinathacharya than Mukund Dutta. And then, Gopinathacharya replies, kahe, his name is Shri Krishna Chaitanya.
And Guru ihara Keshava Bharati Mahadanya, that his spiritual master is Keshava Bharati, the greatly fortunate Keshava Bharati. Sarvabhauma kahe, ihara naama sarvottam, Bharati sampradaya ino, ino hai na madhyam. So, ihara naama sarvottam, he says, the name is very good, Shri Krishna is very good, but Bharati sampradaya, ino, hai na madhyam.
Well, that is not a very top class sampradaya, it is a middle class sampradaya. So, madhyama, uttama is high class, madhyama is medium class. So, madhyama sampradaya.
So, now, what will be the response of the devotees to this assessment, and how the story unfolds, we will discuss in our future talks.
