I bow to the devotees of Chaitanya Sarovar. Hare Krishna! So, today and in the next few days, we will discuss the story of Daksha, Shivji and Dakshayant Sati.
We will discuss their story. And especially on this topic, how differences arise, how conflicts arise, and how they increase. So, I will use many examples.
One example that I will use is, Daavagni. Daavagni is, Samsaar Daavan Lidh Lok, which we sing in Mangal Aarti. So, there can be a big fire, which can burn all the big jungles.
In the corner. Keep it horizontal. So, it can burn like this.
It all starts there, with a spark. In the same way, there can be big fights, which can go on for generations. If there are fights in a royal family, or in a royal family, they turn into wars.
People die. Hundreds of people die. It all starts with a spark.
And that spark, if we believe in Daavagni, if we believe that there is a war going on, there is a struggle going on, that spark that starts, that spark is misunderstanding. Misconception, or misunderstanding, is the cause of all conflict. So, now, someone will say, in reality, some people are bad, it is necessary to fight with them.
Yes, that is true. Some people are bad. Kaurav, he was a bad person, it was necessary to fight with him, it was necessary to fight with him, for the Pandavas.
But even in that, if we look at the root, it was a misunderstanding. What was the misunderstanding? Dhritarashtra had a misunderstanding, that this kingdom should have been mine. And if it could not be mine, then at least it should have been my son's.
And since childhood, he raised Duryodhana in such a way, that you are going to be the next king. And then, whatever he was ready to do, whatever was necessary, he thought, he would be ready to do it. So, here, we will discuss this topic in the next four lectures.
So, in Bhagavatam, many times, the conversations, the incidents that are told, they start with questions. Now, when we have lectures, Bhagavatam, Bhagavat Pratha, it can be done in different ways. Sometimes, there are such classes, where the speakers come and give a lecture, and after that, they ask a small question.
And sometimes, it happens that the speakers, some of the speakers, they give a lecture for 5-10 minutes, for 15 minutes. And after that, you ask a question. If there is no question, then it will end in 10 minutes.
If there is a question, then it can go on for 2-3 hours. So, now, there are two types. In one way, the speaker is speaking himself.
In another way, the speaker is asking a question. Bhagavatam is a third type of message. What is the third type? If someone is asking a question, then, usually, after the lecture, if there are questions, then different people ask questions.
And so, each question can go in different directions. But, in Bhagavatam, usually, one person is asking a question. So, there are many Shrotas, but, one Shrota can be called the best Shrota.
Like, it is told here, that, Vinamra, Shilavatam, are the best. So, Suta Goswami and Daini Shalini's Rishigan, the message there, among those Shrotas, which one is considered the best? Shonak Rishi. So, all the questions are asked by Shonak Rishi.
So, sometimes, in Bhagavatam, Shonak Uvach is said, sometimes, Rishi Uvach is said. So, what is its meaning? It is Rishi Uvach. One person is asking.
Its meaning is, while representing the Rishis, Shonak Rishi asks questions. Similarly, the conversation on Shuktal, in that, there were many Rishigans, many Shrotas. But, who was told that story primarily? Parashit Maharaj.
Sometimes, some Shrotas, some devotees, they have many questions. Then, they come to ask those questions. So, those questions are so interesting, so interesting, that other people also come to listen.
What will be the answer to the question? So, it is like that. And, in Bhagavatam, it is like this, that, those are called nested conversations. In computer, there are nested loops.
Meaning, one has started, and the other is ending. Something else is starting in between. So, this is, what is it? That, the external conversation is between Shukta Goswami and Shonakadri Rishi.
In between that, there is a conversation, that is, between Shukdev Goswami and Parashit Maharaj. In between that, there is a conversation. Now, in which is it? In Vidur and Maitreya.
And, in that, Vidur is asking questions. So, it is like that on three levels. In Bhagavatam, it comes at one place.
It comes up to six levels. So, it comes in the seventh level. So, many times, when we read Bhagavatam, we don't understand who is speaking to whom.
You have to see the whole picture. Ok, this is going on here. But, the interesting thing is that, Bhagavatam shows that, at different times, in different conversations, even in different eras, the people who have discussed this, their knowledge, their essence, is the same.
And, in this way, by having many conversations across history, the Bhagavatam illustrates how its message is trans-historical. That, in history, at different places, the conversations that have taken place, and their message is the same. In this way, Bhagavatam shows that, this message is not just historical.
It is divine. It is beyond time. It is divine.
It is divine. It is divine. It is divine.
It is divine. It is divine. It is divine.
It is divine. It is divine. It is divine.
It is divine. It is divine. It is divine.
It is divine. It is divine. It is divine.
It is divine. It is is It is divine. It is divine.
It is divine. divine. divine.
It is divine. It is divine. It is divine.
is divine. It is divine. It is It is divine.
It divine. So now, as soon as he hears this, he asks a question. What question is he asking? Here, he is asking two questions.
bhave shilvataam shreshthe that the Shiva Ji is very humble, very humble. He doesn't hate anyone. So a person like this, who is very humble, how can he hate him? akarodh kasmat How can anyone hate him? And why did Daksha hate him? The second question is, daksha duhitravatsala Daksha used to love his daughter.
Then his anadhrityaatmajaam So why did he disrespect her? Why did he disrespect her? And this is a very strange thing. aatmajaam She was his own daughter. So why did he disrespect her? Why did he disrespect her? Here, to emphasise, that he was his daughter twice.
He was duhitravatsala and she was his aatmajaam. So the word aatma has different meanings in different contexts. So the meaning of aatma can also be the body.
aatmajaam means that which has arisen from oneself, which has arisen from one's own body, that is aatmajaam. The meaning of aatma can also be the mind. panduratmaatmanastasya yenaatmaivaatmanachita Here, the mantra of our mind can also be the enemy.
The meaning of aatma can also be God. Sometimes it can be aatma, sometimes it can be God. Ishaavasamidamsarvam This comes in a shloka shloka shloka.
Similarly, the eighth shloka says, aatmavasamidamsarvam yathkeenja jagat pyaam jagat tenakat tena bhunjeetha ma grudhakasya svetanam So the meaning of the words are not just in a dictionary. They are not in a dictionary. The meaning of the words can also be found in context.
So here, aatma, aatmajaam Now if we look at aatma in a spiritual way, it is not just the birth of aatma, it is not just the end of aatma. It is not just the birth of aatma, it is not just the birth of aatma. Because aatma is eternal.
So if we use the word aatmajaam, then this aatma can never be used for jivaatma. So the meaning of aatmajaam is of the body. So sometimes the body is also considered as aatma.
Why is it so? Because the meaning of aatma can be soul in English, it can also be self in English. Now what is the difference between soul and self? That every person does not consider himself as aatma. So the person who is in the consciousness, he considers himself as his body.
So sometimes the perception of the person, who I am, and the truth can be different. So this is how aatma can be used. There are two main questions.
In the Bhagavad Gita, it is said, शीलवतामिशिरेष्थि that Lord Shiva was very generous, very humble, he did not get into any trouble. So why would anyone do bad deeds? There is an important thing here, विद्वेश Why does an ordinary person get jealous of someone? Because that person has something good, which we do not have. If a person is very poor, then if he is a rich person, then why would anyone get jealous of him? What is there to get jealous of him? When someone has something, which we do not have.
If, for example, there is a very poor person, and he somehow became very famous, he got interviewed on TV, on social media, he got a lot of information about him. So a rich person says, he is so poor, why would he get jealous of him? I am so rich, I do not have this. So what happens then? That person does not have money, but he is jealous of that person, for whatever reason.
So because of that jealousy, sometimes jealousy can happen. So jealousy is common. Another person has something, which that person does not have, that is the reason.
But jealousy does not happen only because of that. Especially, if the person has something, he shows off a lot. And another person sees him, and he gets jealous of him.
A person has a lot of wealth, but he has kept that wealth in his bank, his house is very simple, he does not live in luxury. So people get jealous of him. When someone has a wealth, when that wealth is shown off, because of showing off that wealth, people get jealous.
If the wealth is not shown off, there is no reason for jealousy. So in the same way, it is told here, that Shivji has so much wealth, that he does not even have a house. He lives on Mount Kailash, on top of a mountain, under a tree.
So why would anyone get jealous of such a person? In Shraddha Bhagavatam, on the basis of this question, on the basis of this question, this Leela progresses. In Shraddha Bhagavatam, the stories, they come from different Pashupagunis, they come from different ages. When we are discussing this, the Leelas in Bhagavatam, in a way, as I was telling you yesterday, there is a reason for its passage, a reason for its distance.
So in Bhagavatam, the reason for its passage is that a question is asked in a Shraddha. But Bhagavatam is such that it is also a structured book. It has a complete structure.
And every Leela, the ultimate aim of Bhagavatam, is in connection with that. Is in connection with that. What is the ultimate aim of Bhagavatam? Why was Bhagavatam told? To fulfil the need of Parikshit Maharaj.
What was his need? How? To remember Bhagavan. Right now, when death is approaching, then the mind has to focus on Bhagavan. So how does the mind focus on Bhagavan? The sadhus, the seekers of truth, how do they focus their mind on Bhagavan? For them, there is only one truth.
With one thought, they focus their mind on Bhagavan. So that is the aim. Now we will see, some of the Leelas, are clearly, such Leelas, that it is the story of Bhagavan.
So when it is the story of Bhagavan, the mind automatically focusses on Bhagavan. The whole Dashaam Skandh is filled with the Leelas of Bhagavan. There are many more Skandhs, in which there is the Leela of the Avatars of Bhagavan.
There, the Leela of the Avatars, in that also, it is the story of Bhagavan. That is why it is clear, that it is the story of Bhagavan. But there are some parts, in Bhagavatam, how are they connected to Bhagavan? How are they connected? It is difficult to understand this.
So, for that, what we have to understand, that, the thing that is told, there, do this thing, it is told in two ways. There is a famous Shloka, Harer Naam, Harer Naam, Harer Naam eva kevalam. So now, what is this? It is told, take the name of Hari, take the name of Hari, take the name of Hari.
It is told three times. And Kevalam, apart from this, there is no other way. But along with that, what is told? Kalao, Gade Ranyata.
So, apart from this, there is no other way, there is no other way, there is no other way. So, if we have to emphasise on something, then what is told? In a positive way, and in a negative way, it is told in both ways. This should be done, and this, the opposite of this, that should not be done.
So, in Bhagavatam, there are some stories, which are told in such a way, that what we see, what we should not do. And what should not be done, is told. Its purpose is, that we should learn from those stories, that what is the result of doing such things.
So, by remembering Bhagavan, how a person is uplifted, there are many stories of this. There is a story of Prahlad Maharaj, there is a story of Dhruva Maharaj, there is a leela of Bhagavan Krishna, in Ashwagandha. But, the one who does not remember Bhagavan, how can he be influenced? How can he go into danger? Its description comes here.
So, now, I can give an example of this, the story of Ajamel. Ajamel, who was, he was not a Rajoguni, Tamoguni person. He was a Brahmin, he lived a Satvic life.
But, he was in Satvaguna, in Bhakti, he was not in that much of unity. So, his mind got confused, and then, he fell down. But, after that, he became uplifted with just one name, just one utterance of Harinam.
So, how is this story? What is the result of not remembering Bhagavan? And then, how did he become uplifted by remembering Bhagavan again? The same story is there, Bharat Maharaj. He remembered Bhagavan, and he was so attracted to remembering Bhagavan, that he left the whole world, and he became one with Bhagavan. But, from there, he became defiled.
He was attracted to Harinam. Then, after becoming defiled, what happened? In the next channel, in the form of Jad Bharat, how did he come back? He remembered Bhagavan very carefully, and moved ahead. So, what is happening? Parikshit Maharaj is a great devotee, but still, to give him the message, and to give us the message through him, both the methods are being told in Bhagwatam, that how did he become uplifted If we pay attention to something other than Bhagavan, if we remain alert, what will happen? So, in this Leela of Daksh, if we see, Bhagavan does not come directly.
In this Leela, in reality, in a way, it is the Leela of Karmakand. At the level of Karmakand, the Daksh Pujapati, so, how, because of his ego, he made a big mistake, and what was the result of that? This is being told. But, in this, it is also told, how Shivji, he is a great devotee, and the glory of Shivji has been told, and then, how Shivji later forgave Daksh, and then, the same Daksh, later, the ones who come in the 4th level, they come back in the 6th level, and then, it takes a lot of time for the spiritual development of their Daksh.
But, the feeling of Bhagavatam is, that, how to go from the Sattva guna, to the pure Sattva. Parishit Maharaj is in the Sattva guna, he is living, from the Sattva guna, he has to go to the pure Sattva. So, how can there be dangers in the life of the Sattva guna, this is being shown in Bhagavatam.
So, in the Sattva guna, there can be a danger, that, ego can be built on your religiousness. Ego on religiousness means, how religious I am, ego can be built on that. Now, in India, in many places, people have come to the temple of Hanumanji.
Hanumanji, as it is said, is very kind, so, there are not many standards for his worship, so, they build his temple somewhere. So, what people do sometimes, they build a big temple of Hanumanji. If they build his temple, then the idol is very big.
So, in many people, competition happens. My Hanuman's idol is 10 feet, I will make it 15 feet. So, someone says, I will make it 25 feet.
I will make it 30 feet. They make it so high, and that idol becomes so big, that, first they have money, they want to show money, I will make such a big idol. Then later people say, I just want to show Hanumanji, how big this idol is.
So, they don't even make a temple of that idol, the whole world can see. So, what happens, now, someone may have such a feeling, that everyone can worship Hanumanji, but some people have such a feeling, that I will make such a big temple. In Maharashtra, there is Ganesh Utsav.
So, in Ganesh Utsav, many people say that, Ganesh makes such a big idol. So, he makes such a big idol, and then he says to me, I will make a bigger idol than that. I will make a bigger idol than that.
And he makes such a big idol, and then people say, see, you see, I have made such a big idol. So, once, there was such a big Ganesh Utsav, in Pune, I was called there, to say something about Vedic culture. So, when I went there, hundreds of people came, but that was Ganesh's temple, and there, in Ganesh's temple, Bollywood songs were being played.
So, I asked him, I asked the founder of Bollywood, I asked him, this is Ganesh's Utsav, so why are you not playing Ganesh's Bhajan? Why have you put Bollywood songs here? So, he gave a very interesting answer. He said, Ganesh is a devotee. That is fine, but what does it have to do with me? He is a devotee, which means, whatever is dear to his devotees, is dear to him too.
Now, is this the meaning of a devotee's Utsav? Now, yes, he is God, he is the most, he is the most merciful, he is the most loving. So, God's love is unconditional. But, unconditional love means, whatever we do, we are loved.
Not that, whatever we do is loved. These two things are different. No matter how much a person is a sinner, God lives in his heart, God loves him.
This is the truth. But, if he is a sinner, then God does not love his sins. Ajamil gave up his family, gave up his parents, gave up his wife, he lived a very irresponsible life.
Even then, God has mercy on him. But, God does not love the one who has done a sinful act. So, what is the meaning of a devotee's Utsav? That, whoever has a little bit of devotion, if later, if there is no other mistake, God loves him.
apichit sudaracharo bhajate maa manne bhaav sadhur eva samantavye samvyag vyavasito hi sah In Chapter 9, God says in Chapter 33, that even if a person does a very bad act, still, if he is in devotion, then he should be considered as a great devotee. So, what is God saying? He should be considered as a great devotee. He is saying that his misconduct should be considered as a misconduct.
His misconduct is a misconduct. So, that is why here, the meaning of bhakta vatsala is wrong. But, what happens here is that those people who are bringing this religion from Ganesh ji, are bringing it because it is a big idol so that other people can see it.
So, if other people want to come there, then if we keep Ganesh kirtan, more people will not come. If we keep Ganesh kirtan in front of Bollywood, more people will come. So, what is the purpose of doing it? The purpose of doing that work is to worship God or the gods, to worship them, to worship them, to remember them, this does not happen.
What is the purpose? The purpose is to worship your own ego or your own senses. This is what happens. So, in India, we celebrate Diwali.
So, in Diwali, most of the people eat swadhishthana and play crackers. In that, how many people light lamps, how many people remember that Lord Rama went to Tiruvannamalai and came back from exile, they forget the lamps. This happens in every religion.
In America, in Christmas, in Christmas, for most of the people, for children, it is not about Jesus Christ, it is about Santa Claus. That Santa Claus will come and give me a gift. He will fulfil my wish.
So, whatever is the spiritual purpose, why not, it comes very easily to the spiritual purpose. सकालेनेह महता योगो नष्टबरंतर People do spiritual things in a materialistic way and forget the spirituality. So, this is the Leela of Daksha.
We will discuss and explain in the next episode. But, we will see what is its Pashupati. Its essence is that Daksha was doing Yagya and he was doing Yagya so that his self-respect increases.
That I want respect.
If we are not communicating with anyone, then it is not like that person is in his world and I am in my world.
You live, I live. It is said that if we are living in such a state, then why doesn't the person talk to him? Why is he like this? He lives alone. So he gets ordinary negative thoughts.
So relationships are like trees. First, we have to give them a lot of water. Later, when the trees grow, we don't have to give them so much water.
We have to nourish ourselves. But our relationships are such that if we are in a relationship, If we don't do this in a positive way, then the relationship often goes in a negative direction. This is not necessary.
But this is the nature of time. For example, no one will take care of a tree. Some trees grow on their own.
And some trees have to be taken care of. So there are some relationships that we meet once a year. But when we meet, there is a very good relationship.
But at that time, there is no relationship, but there is no room for any misconception. Because no one is telling them about us. But when we are living with someone, if we don't talk to them much, then others talk to them about us.
Or they talk to others about us. And then no one knows what others are going to say about us. So what happens is, if we see that we are getting wrong thoughts about someone, then what should we do? If we don't know why this is happening, then it is very difficult to understand where the thoughts come from in the mind.
It is very difficult to understand where the thoughts come from. Sometimes we are cleaning the house, and there is some garbage in the house. So where did this garbage come from? He will find out.
Did it come from the window? Did it come from the door? Did someone come wearing their shoes? If the garbage is coming there again and again, then we will find out where it is coming from. But when garbage comes, we don't even take time to find out where it is coming from. We take out the garbage first.
So in the same way, if we start looking for where the thoughts come from in the mind, then it becomes very difficult to find out. So what happens is, if he doesn't pay attention to the thoughts coming in his mind, then he will gradually reduce and go away. But if there are thoughts coming in his mind again and again, then we will have to think about it.
And in general, we cannot get rid of negative thoughts. For example, if we have a computer or phone, and we have downloaded a file on it, and it is a bad file, there is a virus, and we don't want such files, then we can delete it. But the thoughts in our mind, there is no delete button in the mind.
Okay, this thought should be there, forget it. We cannot make anyone forget it. But what we can do is, if we think about other things in the mind, then this thought will gradually go away.
So that's why if a devotee is getting jealous, then we can think positively about him consciously. We can do something good about him in our mind. Or we can tell others something good about him.
Even though we are getting a little jealous about him, but by thinking about him, what are his good qualities, and not just for show, not just for show, but with such a desire, that I want to think good about him, I want to speak good about him, and by that we can speak positively about him. Or there are such devotees, who appreciate them. By talking to them, I feel that these devotees are like this, like this, like this, but these devotees respect them so much, they love them so much.
What are they seeing in them? So talk to them a little. Sometimes what happens is, we are in our relationship, there is a word in English, eco-chamber. What does eco-chamber mean? That I am saying something, and there is a glass wall around me, so my voice does not go out, only my voice comes back to me.
So the other person is saying something, so I can't hear that glass wall, only what I say can be heard. So such people are there. Sometimes what happens is, we live in our own eco-chamber.
What does it mean? That I have a belief, and then I associate with those devotees, who support my belief. Then I think, this devotee is very bad. And then another devotee also says, yes, that devotee is very bad.
And we both say, yes, see, this devotee is so bad, he did this to me, he did that. And then what happens is, that devotee can't do anything good, we don't see anything good in him. So we live in our own eco-chamber.
So that is why, it is very important for us to come out of that eco-chamber. Now it is possible that we can make some mistakes, and if it is a very serious thing, then we will have to do something about it. But if you are saying, that we don't know, then these three things can be done.
We can see positive qualities about them, we can sing their praises to each other, and those who praise them, by associating with them, then we can get more information about their qualities, etc. Okay? Yes. Any questions? Thank you very much.
