Do we need to endeavour to get what is in our quota?

Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Question from Srivasa Taigaura Prabhu. Do we need to endeavor to get the results, get the things that are in our quota as is talked about in the Ishopanishad there is karma and there is daiva and then there is phala. So if we do not do our endeavor then how will we get the results? Answer yes we have to endeavor we don't have to over endeavor we shouldn't over endeavor.

Over endeavor means putting so much time and energy and emotion into our worldly endeavors that we have very little left for our spiritual endeavors there has to be a balanced program where we give due time for both so Prabhupada would quote this traditional Indian aphorism that if a lion lies down just in the forest then the deer is not going to come in its mouth that actually by endeavor one attains success. Similarly we all have to endeavor so the important point often one verse from Krillad Maharaj is quoted that without endeavor we get misery so why do we need to endeavor to get pleasure that by contact with the body a certain amount of pleasure and pain are fixed and we will get them both. So why do we need to do anything for it why do we need to endeavor? Just as misery comes so pleasure will also come.

But then if we look at Prahlad Maharaj's life he himself took up the duty of ruling a kingdom. Didn't he? So the point is that it's not that devotees have to become lazy or irresponsible materially it's that the devotees should not or intelligent people should not let their material ambition deprive them of their spiritual growth. So there has to be a balance.

So when we talk about getting things in our quota we do need to put in our endeavor as a duty so we decide okay this is the kind of life I want to live so that I'll have enough time for Krishna and this is the job I'm doing. Whatever work I require to do for that job I'll do that but it's not that just because I can earn more money so I'll take a job which requires 12 hours, 16 hours of work and then I'll have no time for my spiritual life so we do need to endeavor and by endeavor it's not that we produce the results that come in our quota by endeavor. We contribute to that of course no doubt but primarily we do it not to get the results.

We do it as a form of service to Krishna because we spiritualize our material duties also. We understand that whatever position I'm put in, I've been put in Krishna whatever duty I'm doing it is the way I can serve Krishna if my overall life is devoted to Krishna. So that way we don't have to become Sakam.

We can stay transcendental by keeping our focus on Krishna but certainly we should endeavor and the important point is we balance our endeavor in both our material and spiritual lives. Thank you. So the question is that.
