Do we need to know God before we can have faith in him?
Thank you so when we are seeking a spiritual path do we first need to know who god is it depends in no path can we be expected to go in with a lot of knowledge or nor can we afford to go in with a lot of ignorance if I am going to purchase gold I obviously don't have the knowledge about gold the way a goldsmith will have but at the same time if I am so ignorant that somebody can sell me just polished copper as gold then I am setting myself for being cheated so we have to have some knowledge about gold similarly whether we treat god as a person or we treat god as a as a power or simply a presence or whatever we will have different conceptions based on our upbringing, our culture our previous life experiences as long as we just understand that there is something higher than me that is maintaining that is actually playing a part in maintaining my life every time we eat food how that food gets digested is something which is medically speaking a remarkable thing yeah yes now what happens to the food that can be analyzed in different ways, Ayurveda may analyze it in a particular way allopathy may analyze it in a different way that's fine but the important thing is that when scientists try to replicate that they found that we can have a unit for dialysis if a kidney is not working, we can have a pacemaker if the heart is not working so properly but can we create a machine to replace a dysfunctional stomach they found that they would not need a machine, they would need a factory a chain of factories the point is not whether scientists can make a chain of factories or not, the point is that it's an extremely complicated process which we don't even know about, so we certainly are not doing it ourselves so the basic point is that just a little observation of the world around us can help us understand that there is something beyond us which shapes our life also and the exact nature of that ultimate reality understanding that is a part of the explanation that a path is providing so can we have faith without knowing that we need to be a person it again depends whether our nature is more rational then we may gravitate more towards conception of some coordinating principle if our nature is more emotional we may think of it in terms of love is everything people say what does that mean they may not have a clear idea so clear understanding may not be the necessary starting point but definitely a clear understanding of the ultimate principle is an important criteria of a path that we choose so how that starting faith emerges is something which will happen differently for different people so we are all on our spiritual evolution and we will be directed forward.
