Gauranga Shata Nama 23 – The Lord blesses everyone across the varnashrama spectrum
Kashi Vasi Sanyasi Uddhari Parprema Data Markat Vairagi Dande Achandala Trata So Kashi Vasi Sanyasi Uddhari Kashi Vasi Sanyasi This is Gauranga Shethanam going on Kashi Vasi Sanyasi refers to the Sanyasis in Varanasi Kashi Vasi Sanyasi Uddhari which refers to Chaitanya Mahaprabhu's deliverance of Prakashnath and Saraswati and his many associates Chaitanya Mahaprabhu came to Kashi twice first on his way to Vrindavan and second on his return journey from Vrindavan and during his first journey he did not associate with the Mayavadi Sanyasis there at all. He stayed with his devotees Tapal Mishra and Tapal Mishra and another Vaishnava who was there and after that he departed when he came back Chaitanya Mahaprabhu again stayed in Kashi and this time he stayed for a longer time and during this time there was an interaction with the Mayavadis because there was a Maharashtrian Brahmin who was an admirer of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and he invited Chaitanya Mahaprabhu for prasad and he invited the Sanyasis also for prasad and there in there was a discussion wherein they and Chaitanya Mahaprabhu showed how their philosophical interpretations were all misconstrued and not only did he refute them philosophically but he transformed them spiritually he attracted them spiritually right in the beginning by manifesting the Brahman effulgence so because in person the Brahman effulgence to be their ultimate aspiration, to be their ultimate spiritual perfection so anybody who manifests who is extraordinarily fulgent they tend to think oh this person must have realized Brahman this person must have must be already situated in liberation and so they became impressed by and attracted to Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and they became more open to hear from him so by exhibiting this mystical effulgence then by using his phenomenal erudition these impersonalists especially their leader Prakashanth Saswati was a phenomenal scholar and yet Chaitanya Mahaprabhu countered and defeated them in scholarship but it was not debate of intellectual one of spanship where Chaitanya Mahaprabhu wanted to stamp his superiority on them rather he wanted to transform them and elevate them to the ecstasy of pure devotion and that is what he did so Kashiwasi Sanyasi Uddhari so the Sanyasis thought that we are already the Uddhar, we are already elevated we are already liberated and they thought they were actually thinking that Chaitanya Mahaprabhu the Sanyasi he is dancing and singing like a sentimentalist so we will raise him from the sentimental level to the philosophical level but rather Chaitanya Mahaprabhu elevated them from the level of dry philosophical speculation to ecstatic trans-philosophical devotion trans-philosophical means not that it rejects philosophy but it goes beyond philosophy so Premadata Premadata he not only elevated them but he granted them love of God this is another spectacular victory of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu this along with his victory over Sarovam Bhattacharya is the greatest success of his preaching career and by this now the significance of this is Kashi is considered to be the headquarters of the Mayavadis, actually Prabhupada would say that Varanasi is the Vrindavan of the Mayavadis so to go into their stronghold and there defeat them and not just defeat them but to convert them that is a phenomenal achievement with few if any parallels in the history of intellectual confrontation that characterizes the Vedantic period in Indian history wherein the Advaitins and Dvaitins have often faced off so Chaitanya Mahaprabhu after this spectacular victory continued his journey so Chaitanya Mahaprabhu went on and what did he do so Kashivasi Sanyasi Yudhari Parapremadata in some some recensions of the Gauranga Shatanam the word Paraprem comes supreme loving or sometimes it is just Premadata Markata Vairagi Dandi Achandala Trata Markata Vairagi so during the Chaitanya Mahaprabhu's travels he would often find renunciates who were pretenders they had adopted the garb of renunciation just for the sake of gratification of the ego they wanted what they wanted was not to devote themselves to the absolute truth but rather to have people devote themselves to them and in their respect in their adulation they would delight Chaitanya Mahaprabhu would expose such people for what they were adulation seekers prestige hunters and they are not at all spiritual worthy of being spiritual teachers Chaitanya Mahaprabhu exposed them and when they became exposed that exposure was itself their danda because sambhaviti jaakirthira maranathiruchute krishnasindhra bhagavidha for one who has been honored dishonor is worth than death similarly for those who had been who had become habituated even addicted to the adulation of gullible masses Chaitanya Mahaprabhu exposed them that itself was their danda so we see Chaitanya Mahaprabhu was not just a sentimental person sentimental devotee who was just chanting and singing and dancing he was philosophically profoundly learned capable of defeating even the top most scholars and he was also very discerning to put aside to sideline and expose and reject those who were pretender in nuances margata vairagya like monkey sanyasis achandalatra ta and especially in north india where Chaitanya Mahaprabhu went there was a rule of the muslims muslims are used are often referred to depending on muslims sometimes if we may just stereotype everyone as a muslim everyone who is all muslims as one rather but even among muslims there are among muslims who came to india there were different some people came from turkey some people came from more from the middle east so southern part of the middle east so some people came from even central asia where also sometimes muslims were there the point is that they all although they may have had one religious denomination they all had different cultural orientations and that's why sometimes while referring to the same people it is one word which we use inclusively sometimes is lechas but here itself in this and the previous words two different words are used yawan uddhari was used for referring to those who became pathan vaishnavas headed by baby julie khan and here chandalatra ta so yawan and chandal if we go into the technicalities they refer to different classes of people whose defining or common characteristic is that they are outcasts they are outside the varnashram chetan mahaprabhu's wonderful potency was such that chandalatra ta but not only could he inspire those within the varnashram to move towards the highest goal but also as he did with prakasham and saraswati they were brahmanas and sanyasis those were considered to be the summit of varnashram in both avarana and ashram and yet they were misdirected in their spiritual focus so not only did chetan mahaprabhu correct those who were at the top of the varnashram hierarchy kashi vasi sanyasi uddhari prema data but then also those who were so much at the bottom of the varnashram hierarchy as to be outside varnashram chetan mahaprabhu elevated them also such is the inclusive we could say almost all inclusive scope of chetan mahaprabhu's mercy shri gauranga mahaprabhu ki jaya thank you.
