Bhagavad Gita 15.14 so Krishna is speaking here and he is saying I am the seed giving father sorry, I am the digestive fire there are many living beings who have taken shelter of the body now and what has enabled them to take shelter that means body is the vehicle with which soul functions in this world he is given from the Ayurvedic perspective how does the body function there are the vayus in the body those airs are balanced in a very delicate way and through that delicate mechanisms by which our existence is sustained through which our capacity for self existence our capacity for through which our digestive capacity and ultimately our capacity for existence is sustained so so there are different ways at a functional level in which we can perceive the body we may perceive it in terms of either the soul being transcendental to the body but even if we accept that point or even if we don’t accept the existence of the soul still we understand that the body’s mechanism for self existence is very complicated there is no easy way in which the body can manage its own existence when we eat food at that time we simply chew the food and we forget it after that the only time when we remember our digestion is when it doesn’t work when we wanted to do certain things which are not that easy to do that means at that particular point if we find that we are unable to digest the food then we start wondering what is going on over here why am I not able to digest this food so for us as spiritual beings that recognition that we can’t digest our own food that means we are dependent on a complex mechanism for digesting food and that mechanism is not really in our control that mechanism depends on factors that are beyond our control that understanding is the beginning is a very vital step forward in our spiritual growth for us to progress towards spiritual understanding towards spiritual wisdom towards perceiving our dependence on God and perceiving even the existence of God so the the most sustainable way or the most transformational way in which we can perceive the existence of God is by recognizing our dependence on something beyond ourselves so we need to recognize that our very existence requires the existence of something beyond ourselves like the very existence of the material world requires the existence of somethings beyond the material world if we consider in terms of origin and then we consider in terms of operation the material vision the material exploration of science can never take us beyond take us behind the something that gave rise to everything that if we trace back in the causal chain backward, backward, backward we will come at a particular point to something which science posits is the source of everything and where that something came from is something that is not explainable by science science cannot take us beyond that something, behind that something in the causal chain and that’s with respect to origin and we consider with respect to operation we see that this world is actually filled with the forces that delude us the forces that can very easily cause us to suffer and we do suffer at times but still suffering can be where natural calamities take place sometimes delusions can be when we say mirages in either case the important thing is to recognize that there is something beyond our control which is required for existence and when it goes wrong we raise questions why did this happen? just like with respect to digestion why is my digestion not working but for its normal functioning we don’t usually so easily recognize that the normal functioning of these things which enables our existence to take place is dependent on factors beyond our control so to the extent we take into account these factors we will be schooled in humility and even for the operation of things for science to function science requires the pre-existence of the world which functions according to certain laws if the existence around us would not be law bound science would not be able to function so that existence of a law bound cosmos is actually a gift based on which is essential for the functioning of science and science operates on the faith that the world around us is indeed law bound and even if we can’t perceive the laws at a particular moment we keep exploring and challenging till we perceive it till we eventually perceive what is the reality so for us as spiritual beings it is vital even for us as intelligent beings if we want to turn our consciousness towards spirituality or even if we want to broaden our understanding of how things work we need to begin by keeping things in a holistic perspective by seeing things from the perspective that whatever is required for the sustenance of our existence depends on factors beyond our beyond our existence and thus we need digestive capacity which we don’t have which we need to digest the food and the whole mechanism for digestion is so complicated that we don’t even know how it happens when researchers try to replicate it they find that making a machine to replicate it is extremely difficult we need a factory for that purpose it’s such a complicated mechanism so in general for the very existence of the world and for its operation or for science to understand its operation and tap its operation for it that it has to operate according to certain laws so in terms of the origin of the world and in terms of the operation of the world where the world comes from and where the laws that govern the world come from for all this the material world points to some organizing principle beyond itself and with spiritual knowledge we can put two and two together and understand that organizing principle to be supreme to be Krishna
