So, we are starting the 10th chapter of Bhagavad Gita. So, what is happening in Gita? In the middle, there is a section of Bhakti. And in that, till now, we have seen 7, 8, 9, 3 chapters.
So, the theme of the 7th chapter was that we should have a mind attached to Krishna. Because we have to have a mind attached to Krishna. For that, in the 8th chapter, we have to remember Krishna.
And then, in the 9th chapter, we have to become a devotee of Krishna. Become devoted to Krishna. So, in the last chapter, we saw how what is happening about Bhakti.
What is the glory of Bhakti? Now, in front of this, God is repeating what he has told for emphasis. Now, usually when there is repetition, when someone writes a book, the repetition usually has three reasons. The third reason is forgetfulness.
Someone forgets that he has written or said something. So, he is giving a lecture and he rambles a little. He is not fully organised.
So, he says the same point again and again. This is because of forgetfulness. The second reason is beauty.
He repeats the same words again and again. So, he becomes a figure of speech. For example, he is called Ahobhagyam, Ahobhagyam.
So, there is beauty in this. The third reason is emphasis. Beauty and emphasis are similar, but a little different.
Beauty is used for artistic things. For example, at the level of Vangmai, there is an Alankar. Now, Alankar can also be used for emphasis.
Harer naam, Harer naam, Harer naam eva kevalam. What is this? This is for emphasis. Now, if you make a shloka, there is beauty in it, but beauty is not prominent in it.
So, when there is repetition, what is wrong? If everything is going wrong, nothing is wrong. Absolutely nothing is wrong. When you say nothing twice, it means you are emphasising.
When God repeats something, does God forget something? No. So, when God repeats something, is it for beauty or for emphasis? When God repeats something for beauty, He does not tell, but repeats. For example, I am so happy that you are happy.
I am not happy because you are happy. I am not happy because you are happy. Now, there is repetition, but someone says, Now, I am repeating this thing.
Now, someone says, I am going to tell a joke. He enjoys the joke. There is a discovery in it.
When someone deliberately says, it is for emphasis. God starts the 10th chapter with a declaration of repetition. Shri Bhagwan Vacha Shri Bhagwan Vacha Shloka is simple.
I will say the meaning, then we will repeat it together. God says, Bhuya eva mahabaho. Bhuya means back.
I am saying back. Shrunu me paramam vachaha. These are very simple words.
Yatteham priyamanaya. You are very dear to me. Vakshami hitkamaya.
I am saying these words for your welfare. Shri Bhagwan Vacha Bhuya eva mahabaho Shrunu me paramam vachaha Yatteham priyamanaya Vakshami hitkamaya So, here, there are many emphasizers. This is very important.
Even if you forget everything else, just remember this one thing. So, here, the emphasis here is with four words. Bhuya, I am saying back.
I am saying back. Because this is the most important word paramam vachaha. And why am I saying this? Priyamanaya.
You are very dear to me. Now, with a dear devotee, we make fun of them. But, that is only to make them laugh.
I am saying this, hitkamaya. You are very dear to me. And I am saying this for your welfare.
This is one such shloka, in which both are coming. I am saying and you listen. Many times, takshrunu comes, vakshami bhartarshabha comes.
But, vakshami and shrunu, both. What does it mean? I am saying this, and you listen. So, this emphasis is also a little emphasis in this shloka.
Now, what is God going to tell us? He is telling us the knowledge of bhakti. Whatever was told in the last shloka, manmanabhomat bhakto, God is repeating that only. In a way, the Gita is going towards a conclusion.
And the conclusion of the Gita, how it ends, we will discuss that. But, what happens after this? The main sections of the tenth chapter, what is its theme? In a way, its main division comes, that first of all, one to seven, which is here, what is God doing? God is telling Krishna’s supreme position. How? Krishna’s supreme position is being emphasised, so that bhakti is emphasised.
Why is Krishna’s supreme position being emphasised? So that bhakti’s supreme position is emphasised. That is why his bhakti is supreme. That will come in the seventh shloka, we will discuss that.
The highest sadhya is and the highest sadhan is bhakti. So, this is told in a way here. After that, sadhya means what we have to attain, sadhan, we have to attain from this position.
Then what comes in the eighth to eleventh shloka? The fourth shloka comes. What is the meaning of the fourth shloka? In a way, the essence is being told. Till the eighth shloka, which is the words of Arjuna.
Arjuna’s conclusion or Arjuna’s appreciation, Arjuna’s understanding, Arjuna is understanding what he has understood, and his question. And after this, from here till the end, the fortitude, I think it is nineteen to forty-two, which is vibhuti. This is the description of vibhuti.
What is vibhuti? It is an aid for remembering Krishna. The thoughts of vibhuti that you understand, with that, it will be easy for us to remember God. So, how is it happening now? In this chapter ten, in this, in a way, Bhagwan why remember Krishna? He is telling this once, and after that, how to remember Krishna? Especially, how to remember Krishna in this world? Why should we remember Krishna? That description comes first.
And then, how to remember Krishna? That description comes first. So, now Bhagwan says, in a way, He is the source of many things. Not only He is the source of creation, but He is also the source of the qualities in creation.
The different kinds of qualities which are told, He is also the source of them. In the end, Bhagwan says, that if you will understand this way, So, now, in this shloka, there is an interesting thing. There are many things, but what is it? The word Yog comes twice.
The word Yog comes twice. But this Yog has two opposite meanings. Usually, what is the meaning of Yog? Connection.
So, now, usually, we say, to practise Yog. So, if Bhagwan is here, So, the meaning of Yog is, that we are connecting with Bhagwan. This is Yog.
But, Bhagwan also wants to connect with us. And, what Bhagwan wants to connect with us, that is also Yog. So, So, this Vibhuti of mine, what is it? What is it through Vibhuti? What Vibhuti has Bhagwan told in this? That, I am the source of all things.
I am also the source of you. I am the source of all qualities, I am the source of all things, I am the source of all living beings. So, I am the source of all.
So, what Bhagwan is telling? This Yog, it is not that we want to connect with Bhagwan, and Bhagwan is sitting there, that when you want to come, come to me. No. Bhagwan also wants us to come to him.
And, Bhagwan also wants to connect with us. So, that is why, what is it? How is my Vibhuti? And, how through Vibhuti, I have come to you? It is not that Bhagwan is far away, in the spiritual world. Bhagwan is omnipresent.
What is there in every atom of the universe, that is called Vishnu. So, Vishnu, atom of the universe. He is omnipresent.
So, etam Vibhuti yogam cha. The one who will understand this, vetti tattvatah. What will happen, Bhagwan says? So, avikalpena yogena.
When we will understand, to what extent, Bhagwan, when we will get this understanding, to what extent Bhagwan, wants to connect with us. Then, what will happen? Avikalpena. We will feel, we will get inspired.
Here, it is understood that, there will not be any other option. If we understand that, suppose someone calls us, and says that, I want to talk to you for the last 6 months. Will someone be very suspicious? You must be stalking me.
But, someone can say, I don’t stalk anyone. But, if he really wants to meet you, and wants to talk to you, then, he will not do that. So, when we will understand, to what extent Bhagwan, wants to connect with us, then, what will happen? So, avikalpena yogena.
There will not be any other option. This Bhagwan is so great, so, now, there is a very poor person, there is a person, who wants to meet me, and is going to ask money from me. Then, we will say, maybe I don’t want to meet him.
But, he is the richest person in India. And, he is trying to meet me. Then, we will say, he will be very surprised.
So, we will definitely meet him. So, what was told earlier? Vibhuti was told, then, Yoga was told. Yes, Bhagwan wants to meet us, but, Bhagwan has so much vibhuti, Bhagwan is so great, etam vibhutim yogam chuh.
Those who have vibhuti, and those who want to do yoga, if we want to meet them, then, very easily, we will say, I want to meet you right now, I don’t want to do anything else, I want to meet you right now. When our devotees, the three married couples, they went to London from America, to do publicity. So, they were thinking, George Harrison was a very famous person there.
And, we will meet him, in some way. So, then, they were trying a lot, to meet him. And then, to meet him, they sat there.
He was recording here. And then, he came out of some work, he was talking to someone, and he saw the devotees, and he came there. Earlier, he said, where have you people been? I have been searching for you for so long.
Where were you? So, he is such a great person, so, he wants to meet us, so, we will meet him immediately. So, what is this? Vibhuti and Yoga. If we understand God’s Vibhuti and Yoga, then, Yoga means here, He wants to make a relationship with us.
If we understand that, we will be inspired immediately, I want to make a relationship with God. yujyate natra samshayah So, now, there is a shloka like this, that, why is this a conclusion? Means, if this understanding comes, then this action will take place. So, indirectly, if you understand that, this medicine is so good, then you will not take anything other than this medicine.
You will take only this medicine. So, after telling this, what does God do? One step back, He is giving a complete summary. This, these four shlokas, this is the summary of Bhagavad Gita.
This was told by Ramacharya earlier, in his Gita Tempani. And, before that, the Gita Tempani, not Tempani, the commentary, so, that was Shankaracharya’s commentary. In that, what did he say? He took out Mahavakyas from Upanishad.
And, even though Shankaracharya has written commentary on Gita, but, what did he do? He has added those shlokas in Gita, which are in excess, which give emphasis to Adwaitavad. And, this shloka, it is very difficult to get Adwaitavad from this. So, now, what is this, Adwaitavadi people, what do they say? The middle section, so much devotion is filled in this, what has happened, they cannot deny that.
So, what do they say? In any shloka, if Bhagwan tells that I am the ultimate truth, and I have to do ultimate devotion, so, what would they do? They would say, this shloka, Bhagwan has told for the devotees. He says, this is for the devotees. Like, this is truth for them, but not for us.
But, Bhagwan does not say like this, that this truth, I know everything, Bhagwan says. But, that is the way they deal with it. But, these four shlokas, now, they can be explained in different ways.
But, this last shloka, I have emphasised on this, So, based on that, we will try to understand this fourth shloka. How, Bhagwan is trying to connect with us. Because of that, here, there is Bhagwan, and his divinity, there are many divinities, and they are Yogas.
Yogas means they are trying to connect with us. So, when we understand this one and two, we understand that in reality, when we understand this, then what will happen? With that, we will connect with them. We will do Yoga with them.
Let’s put it this way. So, understanding leads to devotion. So, the same feeling is told in the first shloka.
So, in this, we have taken a sequence in the fourth shloka. I will just explain the sequence. First of all, what is our connection with Bhagwan? There are 8, 9, 10 and 11 shlokas.
So, let’s look at the first verse. I will call it a sequence. We all know this shloka, so we will repeat it together.
aham sarvasya prabhavo mattah sarvam pravartate iti matva bhajante mam budhah bhav samanvitah So, now, in this shloka, I am explaining how when we do bhakti of Bhagwan, then first of all, we understand that what is the connection with Bhagwan? that I am a part of Bhagwan. Everything has come from Bhagwan. I have also come from Bhagwan.
aham sarvasya prabhavo mattah sarvam pravartate Both are saying the same thing but the emphasis is different. That everything has come from me and everything is in existence in me. mattah sarvam pravartate Everything is in existence in me and everything is going on from me.
It is not like that that Bhagwan created everything but what happened is that in western history, in a way, when the influence of science started increasing, then due to the influence of science, they started taking God out. Intelligent people. Emotional people can believe in God but intelligent people cannot believe in God.
So, when there is so much violence in the world, there are so many bad things in the world, then there was a Christian theologian, he was also a scientist, he was a scientist, he was less than a Christian theologian. He said that when this universe was created, after that, what is there in their theology? Here is God, and here is the devil. So, the devil keeps on influencing all the living beings.
So, what happened is that now, Bhagwan created the universe, but slowly, the universe spun out of the control of God. What happened slowly is that all this universe went out of the control of Bhagwan. So, now the universe is under the control of the devil.
And all the sorrows that are coming, they are coming because of the devil. Bhagwan is not giving this sorrow. But what is there is that because this universe is not under the control of Bhagwan, that is why, the sorrows that come in this universe, Bhagwan cannot avoid them.
So, what is there is that now, such a time will come when Bhagwan because now the universe has gone in the control of the devil. So, now the devil is giving all the sorrows. So, what is there now? There is no penance in their path.
They are doing penance. Now Bhagwan is preparing that there will be a final war. And then only Bhagwan will make the devil win.
But till then, the devil will keep on giving sorrow in this world. And what is there is that we the devotees, we worship Bhagwan, but now the devil is in the control of this world. So, that is why Bhagwan when the devil gives us sorrows, then Bhagwan is not able to protect us.
So, what is there is that all of us should forgive Bhagwan. We should forgive Bhagwan. So, in English it is said that to err is human, to forgive is divine.
Here they have done the opposite. Bhagwan makes mistakes, humans forgive Bhagwan. So, it is not like that.
We have seen that bad things happen not because there is no power in Bhagwan, but because Bhagwan has given an area iti matva bhajante maam. mattah sarvam pravartate God is not just the source of everything, but He is also the sustainer of everything. Everything has come from Him, everything is under His control.
And whoever understands this, iti matva bhajante maam. What does that person do? He starts worshipping Bhagwan. And here there is an interesting thing, budhah bhav samanyatah.
budhah means feelings come with intellect. So now, how can we explain this? Suppose there is a child who is growing up in poverty. He comes to know that actually he is a prince.
And the king is looking for him and trying to meet him. So, what will happen now? He will also want to meet the king. So, what is the first point that is being told here? Attraction.
budhah bhav samanyatah. But how is this attraction coming? This is on the basis of intellect. It is not emotional.
With intellect we understand that we have a relationship with Bhagwan from before. So, if we have a relationship with a king because we are his son, then now we are trying to establish a relationship with him. And suppose his kingdom is very far away.
So, now we are going from here to there. Now there is no aeroplane, so we are going by walking with some vehicle. So, when we are going, then what happens is in that kingdom, suppose, from that kingdom, the rest of the princes have also come out from that kingdom.
They have come to find us. They have come to find someone else. So, when we are going to the kingdom, to the prince, to the king, then what happens is those who know the king, those who love the king, those who do not know the greatness of that king and those who enjoy that king, we will associate with them.
If we are going to meet a relative for the first time, then we will talk to those who know him. What kind of a person is he? What does he do? What is his nature? So, what comes after attraction is association. And it is not just association.
It is such an association that the attraction increases by listening about God. But more than that, those who are devotees of God, those with great love, with great joy, who praise the greatness of God, with that, people’s faith in this world increases even more. So, now we are going to the next show and we are being told how those who worship him, how do they worship him? We will repeat together.
So, now, what is being told here is that we are trying to associate with God. This association is that God is the association of knowledge. That everything is coming from me.
This whole universe has not come by itself. With that knowledge, how is God associating with us? In one way, he gives us knowledge. He has given us knowledge from scriptures.
But the second is, he gives us association. Now, one is that when a devotee is preaching, then we are listening to him. But there are two elder devotees, we are listening to them.
So, with that, we are attracted towards God in devotion. So, what is this? These four verses, all of these, in one way, how God is associating with us, that is being told. With that, how we have to associate with him, we get inspiration for that.
Devotion is a relationship. If we have to make a relationship, then we are not interested. On the basis of those two, the relationship is formed.
So, the first verse is, God’s association from Krishna to us. One is the association of Krishna with us and our association from us to Krishna. Association means relationship, connection.
So, what is our relationship with God? Here, first, he has given knowledge that how in reality, all of us have come from him. All of us are part of him. So, here also, what happens? Emotion comes.
budha-bhavasamanvitah After that, here what is told is bodhayantahaparasparam kathayantasyamamnityam tushyanti cha ramanti cha Here, what happens is tushyanti Tushti comes. And in the next verse, God is telling how he helps in doing bhakti. tesham satatayuktanam bhajatam pritipurvakam tadami buddhiyogamtam yenamam upayantite Here, he is telling that now, suppose there is a prince who is going back to his father in his kingdom.
And when he is going, he gets lost. He gets lost. So, then what happens? He says, you don’t have to go here.
You have to go here. You don’t have to do this. You have to do that.
Similarly, to tell the right path, he sends a messenger. He sends a guide. Similarly, here, God is telling that God is far away.
In the spiritual world, we have to go there. But God is telling that I will give you wisdom. And here, the word is buddhiyog.
So, now what is this buddhiyog? It is such an elastic term. What does elastic mean? It has different meanings. That the word buddhiyog has a simple meaning.
Connection through wisdom. Connection through wisdom. So, this comes for the first time in the 49th verse of the 2nd chapter.
So, what is there? There, the meaning of wisdom is self-knowledge. Because, till now, there, God has not given any self-knowledge. Before that, what was told? Like, that and there, the yoga is karma yoga.
Because, after this, karma, naiva, adhikara, asteyog, shloka, shloka comes. So, in this context, the meaning of buddhiyog is karma yoga. With the knowledge of the soul, we worship God.
Now, this is 10.10. It comes in many places. But, let us see it in three places. And then, 18.57. So, now, here, what is there? Wisdom and this word.
So, we have to do yoga through wisdom. So, now, what is God telling here? dadami buddhiyogam tam ye na maam jiske dwara maam upayan dite. So, through this, you can come to me.
So, wisdom and yoga. Here, the yoga is come to Krishna. Means, what is this wisdom? This is basically bhakti yoga.
That yoga through which we have come to God, that is bhakti yoga. So, what is the description of this wisdom? That this is intelligence given by Krishna. Dadami.
This is the wisdom given by Krishna. Krishna is giving us wisdom. It is not that we understand wisdom through analysis.
Such devotees get that inspiration. Prabhupada ji in Los Angeles, San Francisco actually, we made a temple. There was a small centre.
We were walking there. And there, down there, he saw a flatbed truck. He saw a truck, which was taken aside.
And seeing that, Prabhupada ji thought that we will make this a Jagannath card. Who can make a Jagannath card by seeing this truck? What is this? This is Prabhupada ji’s satata yuktanam bhajatam priti purvakam He always wanted to serve God. So, God gave him an idea that you can do like this.
So, God wants to bring us closer to him and to bring others closer to him. God always wants to give us an idea. He wants to give us some inspiration.
But what is there for that? bhajatam priti purvakam which is love from our side. The next shloka is here. When there is attraction, there is association.
So, what comes after that? Affection. Now, you will ask what is the difference between attraction and affection? Both are the same. But what is affection? In a way, attraction can happen automatically.
For example, if there is a magnet or an iron, it gets attracted. That magnet is not doing anything to get attracted to it. It gets attracted automatically.
So, sometimes a boy or a girl gets attracted to a boy. So, when a boy gets attracted to a girl, maybe that boy thinks that this girl is not good for me or there is a lot of difference But it is almost like they say fall in love. When they say fall in love, what does it mean? It means they get attracted even if they don’t want to.
So, that is why when people say I fall in love, they fall out of love also. So, love at first sight can happen. But the problem is love at first sight is not love after many sights.
So, what happens is there can be some attraction in the beginning. So, attraction can almost be involuntary. If someone looks so attractive to you, then you get attracted.
But attraction and love are different. Affection is a different kind of feeling. So, if we understand the glory of God, we can get attracted to Him.
But when we are living in the world, there are different kinds of problems in the world, and when these problems are coming, at that time, it is very difficult to be affectionate. It is very difficult. What happens is I am doing so much bhakti, why is this problem coming, why is it happening like this, why is it happening like that.
When we get attracted to this, we feel a little disappointed, we feel a little disloyal. So, it is not easy and one of the glory of Prabhupada ji is that when he was not getting attraction by doing so much effort, still, Prabhupada ji was always happy even though he was not getting any results. So, when bhajatam pritipurvakam And what happens after this? In a way, the tenth and eleventh shloka are very similar.
The tenth shloka says that I will give you wisdom with which you will come to me. And in the eleventh shloka, what Bhagavan is telling me, seems to be the same. But there is an important difference in this.
Let’s recite this. So, now Bhagavan is telling us here that So, there is a difference in this. I am giving them wisdom.
So, what Bhagavan is telling us here, in a way, here, he is giving us wisdom. Wisdom, especially, how is wisdom? With wisdom, we can come to them. And here also, this is more like theoretical knowledge.
What does theoretical mean? I am saying it in short. That someone knows that this king is my father and he wants to meet me. This is a very inspiring information.
But, when some problems come in our life, for example, there is a child, he will be told that you are a prince. When he is going, there are some dangers. And then, some king’s soldiers come and save him.
They respect him a lot. Ok, so, he really wants to meet me. So, what is this? This is in a way, realised or practical.
That when we are in a problem in life, then Bhagavan gives us guidance. Ok, you don’t do like this, do like this. We pray, we have a feeling of prayer.
Then Bhagavan gives us ideas what we have to do. Once, I used to write to my disciples in their letters. There was a disciple, Tamal Krishna Maharaj, his book is called Servant of Servant.
In that, most of the time, what letter he wrote to Prabhupada and how he was serving, how he was preaching, his description comes. So, many times, in Prabhupada’s letters, these people say, you are trying to serve sincerely, what is there in the last shloka? Bhagavan is saying, So, I am kind to them. And what is this kindness? The ignorance in the heart, of that, through knowledge, I destroy it.
I destroy the ignorance. So, what is the meaning of this? This is absorption. Absorption means what is happening here? That, completely, we, when here, Anukampa happens.
Means, someone will say, Ok, I have to go to that king from here. But, we are going, so what? Let’s do some sightseeing here. We will get to see this, we will get to see that.
But, what is it? That, if we are very eager to meet someone, we don’t have to do sightseeing anywhere, we have to go directly there. So, when there is attraction from Bhagavan, there is affection towards Bhagavan, still, what happens? There is affection from Bhagavan, but there is affection from other things also. Many times, the followers of Mishra, yes, Krishna is good, but, Maya is also not all that bad.
That, Krishna is good, but Maya is also not that bad. So, what happens is that, we are interested in Bhagavan, but we are also interested in other things. But, what is this? This is, in a way, ignorance.
Vasudevah Sarvamiti That, whatever is attractive in this world, whatever is attractive in this world, whatever we are going to get pleasure from that, more than that, we can get pleasure from Bhagavan. When we understand this, so, what happens? This ignorance, to look for alternatives to Krishna. Yes, Krishna is good, but other things can also be good.
In the last chapter, it was said, Bhajanti Ananya Manaso That is not Anya, no one else is needed. So, this destruction of ignorance, so, now, in its conclusion, in a way, here, Bhagavad Gita is finished. So, now, what happens? In a way, the beginning and the end of Bhagavad Gita, starts from 2.7, and ends in 10.11. The 7th shloka of the 2nd chapter starts, Krup Puchchaamitvam Dharmasamudhacheta What is Dharma? Tell me.
Now, what is there after this? All are, in a way, the class is finished, after the class, different questions and answers are going on. So, after the 10th chapter, all are, in a way, supplementary questions. How do we get to know? Now, what does Arjun say? What is Arjun’s statement? So, Arjun says, O God! You are the best of all.
Param Brahma Param Dhama He says, Sarvam etadratam manye Whatever you are saying, I accept everything. What does it mean? God has made it clear, you should do your karma, you should fight in war. Vigatajvara So, the chapter is already said.
So, in a way, Arjun has made it clear here. And this will also come in the beginning of the 11th chapter. He will do better than us tomorrow.
But now, after this, Arjun gets a question. And in the major chapter, there are many examples. But behind the examples, there is only one principle.
So, we will see the answer to this question. This is the shloka. Katham vidyam We say it in the shloka.
Katham vidyam aham yogihim Tvam sada parichintayan Keshu keshu chabhaveshu Chintyo se bhagavan maya So, see here, I was saying, Yog means that even God is in relationship with us. So, with the same feeling, here, Arjun is calling God as a Yogi. Katham vidyam aham yogihim Hey, you are a Yogi.
You want to make a relationship with me. So, how can I make a relationship with you? How can I make a relationship with you? Especially, what question are you asking? Keshu keshu chabhaveshu Now, the word bhav has come in many places in the Gita. Bhuta bhavod bhava karo visargaha karma sangita What is the meaning of karma? It is the feeling which creates the physical world.
It creates the physical body of Jivaatmas. That is karma. So, keshu keshu chabhaveshu So, what has happened in Arjun’s mind now? There has been a clash.
In the beginning, there was a clash whether to do war or not. But, what is the clash now? He is saying, do remembrance and also do war. He has said, do remembrance and also do war.
But, the way he has told about remembrance that you have to live with the devotees. Bodhayantahaparasparam So, he thinks that this remembrance is a little reclusive remembrance. What does reclusive mean? Go away from the whole world and do remembrance of God with a single mind.
But, now God has told that you have to do war also. So, what has happened now? There is a clash in Arjun’s mind that how is it possible to do remembrance and also war? How can both be done together? Now, there is no such Mahabharata that when Arjun was doing war, he used to shout, Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare, Hare Rama, Hare Rama. Now, he was not taking the name of any God.
Now, he might be taking it in his mind, but there is no such description there. So, now how to do remembrance? So, when Arjun is asked all these questions, God answers him with the recollection of Vibhuti. Now, what is the meaning of Vibhuti? Vishesh Rupena Bhuta What does it mean? Everything in this world has come from God.
But, if there are many people in this world, but one of them is very special, then everyone has some intellect, but one has a very special intellect. Everyone can sing, but when some people sing, people think, when will you stop? And when some people sing, people say, don’t stop now, keep singing. So, some people have the Vibhuti of music.
Some people look very attractive. So, all these are Vibhutias. So, how is it? God is above everyone.
So, the one above the many. The one above everyone, what is that? The one above the many manifests as one among the many. The God who is above everything, the God who is above everything, his qualities, his greatness, can be seen in some people, in some things in this world.
So, this one person, what is he? He is Vibhuti. So, Bhut means existence, V means special, in which there is some special existence. So, normally, we know, if someone has something attractive, then what happens? We remember that.
We come to the temple, we call 50 people Hare Krishna. But, what happens? There is something special in them. We know that he is in a big post, or he is a very senior devotee, or he is very intelligent, or he sings very well.
If there is something special in them, then what happens? Vibhuti, what happens with Vibhuti? Vibhuti is the opposite of Vismruti. What does Vismruti mean? To forget. Vismruti means to remember.
Vismruti means to forget. But, if there is Vibhuti, then there is less possibility of Vismruti. You are a very special person, but I don’t remember you.
So, what is special? Something should be remembered. So, we usually are attracted to those things which have something special in them. So, what is God telling in these things? Whatever thing has something special in it, that is coming from me.
The special attractiveness of everything is coming from me. So, we will go to the end of this chapter, which is the principle. When we ask God a question, then God says, that my Vibhuti is naasti anto vistarasyame that there is no end to them.
That is why, I am saying something primarily. I am saying this as an example. God says.
So, we will go to the principle. We will repeat this together. yad yad vibhuti mat sattvam shrimad urjitam evavah tat tad evavah gacchattvam mam tejyam shasambhavah So, I will tell you one example and two principles.
So, assume that there is an ocean. There is an ocean. And some drops have come from this ocean.
Now, all the drops have come from the ocean. So, what is there? The water in the drops is very less. But still, it is water.
And it has come from the ocean. But, suppose I am here. So, all the drops of water come from the ocean, but all the drops of water won’t take me to the ocean.
So, all the drops of ocean have come from the ocean. But, not all the drops of the ocean will take me to the ocean. If I go to this drop, then I will go closer to the ocean.
This is good. If I go to this drop, then I will go far away from the ocean. So, in this world, In the world, all the attractive things come from God.
So, if there is a devotee who sings very well, and if there is a non-devotee who sings violent, asexual songs, now, let’s say, the voice of that person is also very attractive. So, the voice of both is the essence of God. Both are coming from God.
But, if we listen to one person’s song, I mean, if we listen to the song, we will get attracted to the voice of that person, and we will go closer to God. We will get attracted to the voice of the other person, and we will go away from God. So, all the elements, God is saying to Arjuna that, you will see the power of Karna in the battlefield.
The power of Karna and Dronavidya is also coming from me. The power of Duryodhana’s donkey is also coming from me. The power of Bheem’s donkey is also coming from me.
But, the power of Bheem’s donkey is there for the service of God. Duryodhana’s is for the opposition of God. So, all the attractive things in this world come from God.
Now, if there is a cricketer who does very good batting, does very good bowling, so, his power comes from God. So, everything attractive, everything comes from God. But, this does not mean that we have to go after God.
Prabhupadaji, on the way to Krishna’s book, says, that a drunkard is not able to quit alcohol. So, when he drinks alcohol, he remembers that the taste of alcohol is coming from God. He will remember this and one day he will become a devotee.
He will not become a devotee by drinking alcohol. But, he will remember. Now, I am going behind this drop.
This drop is coming from that side. So, if he remembers this, then what will happen? Gradually, he will become attracted towards God. So, this is a fascinating concept of Vibhuti.
We can say that things that inspire remembrance. Now, we come to the temple, we see the beautiful form of the idols. So, what happens? We remember God because of that.
But, there are some things that cause forgetfulness. But, when we go to watch a movie, some hero or heroine is very attractive. So, what happens when we see her beauty? We forget God.
But, this Vibhuti is such a concept that we can remember Krishna even through the things that make us forget Krishna. The things that make us forget God. Ok, at that time, we forgot God.
But, when we saw Shiva ji, we became attracted to the Mohini idol. And, in a way, we became attracted to it. We were running after it.
So, till that attachment was going on, we kept running after it. But, as soon as that attachment was over, at that time, he started talking about himself. How foolish I am! What will people think about me? What did he think? His first thought was that no one could do this except God.
How great is God that I am so strong that I am never attracted but God attracts me. So, it is not like that after that I kept getting attracted to someone else. That is not the case.
But, when it happens, when we become attracted to something else, then, as far as possible, as far as possible, remember Krishna. The first part is best that we keep remembering. But, if we forget, if we forget God, then remember that the power to make us forget also comes from Krishna.
The thing that is making us worship God, it is not only that thing but in reality, in reality, it is coming from God. So, if we keep this feeling, then what will happen? In that also, humility will come. In that also, God’s appreciation will be there.
When God’s appreciation will be there, even though we will become a little strange, a little deviated, but again, we will return to God. yato yato nishchalati manas chajjal masthiram What happens is, God says, your mind will go here and there. But when it will go, the mind may stray away.
Stray away means it will get lost, stray away, sometimes it happens, but don’t let it stay away. So, stray away is sometimes unavoidable. We have such situations, we have such conditions, but stay away is avoidable.
So, when we understand the humility of God, then what will happen with humility? By understanding this, in one way, where we can remember God, by remembering there, we will get attraction towards God. So, what happens with this? Affinity Affinity means attraction. this person is so intelligent, his intellect is coming from God.
This person is so talented, his talent is coming from God. So, what will happen by understanding this? God will be pleased. But where we become engrossed, there can be humility for us.
That, okay, in this, I do so much resolution, so much determination, but I become engrossed. But what is it? So, this power of engrossment, it is only, my mind is so uncontrolled, I am so weak, I am so foolish. Don’t become self-conscious.
Don’t beat yourself. This is the thing, this God, which is coming from you, because your attraction is in this thing, one part of your attraction is in this thing, that is why it is attracting me so much. So, please, free me from this attraction, God.
So, in that way, we can pray to God with humility. And with this, slowly, slowly, we will go back towards God’s remembrance. So, the last thing of this world, this is called Vibhuti Yoga.
So, the attractive things that God has given in this world, He has not given them so that we become attracted to them. He has given them so that God reminds us that in reality, there is a most attractive truth also. Sometimes, we feel that there is so much engrossment in this world, so, if there was no engrossment, we would not have been misguided.
But if there was no engrossment, if there was no engrossment, we would not have been misguided. But if there was no engrossment, how is it possible that a person is blind? So, if that person is blind, then how does he know that he is blind? Because the rest of the people are not blind. So, the rest of the people can see something.
But, suppose, there is a state in which all the people are blind. So, if everyone is blind, then everyone will become blind to the reality that they are blind. Everyone will not know that they are blind.
Because blindness will become a natural thing. So, what will happen? If there was no God in this world, if there was nothing attractive, then we would have become blind to beauty and attraction. We would have lived in the same way.
So, the attraction in this world, in reality, God has given us this not to make us forget Him, but to remind us of Him. The attraction the attraction it is meant to be a pointer to Krishna, not a competitor to Krishna. It is a pointer to Krishna.
That we have to be attracted to Krishna. We have to not let Him become a competitor. But, what happens? If there is nothing to attract us, then we will not be attracted to God.
If there is no attraction, then we will live the way we are living, and our life will end. So, the God who has given us this is a combination of God. To attract us, His glory is manifesting in this world also.
So, in the end, this chapter, 10th chapter, its title is Vibhuti Yoga. In this, how is it? The name of the chapter is God is telling us His vibhuti so that we can do yoga. So, we have seen three parts of this.
The first part is 1 to 7. In this, we have seen that God is doing yoga on our behalf and for this, He is telling us His vibhuti. What is the purpose of this? That from our side also, whatever yoga happens, it should not be an option. It should not be an option.
Apart from devotion to God, what else should I do? So, this is the first chapter. In the next chapter, in the fourth chapter, 8 to 11. In this, we have seen that this is the feeling of yoga.
God, first of all, we are attracted to Him. I am a prince. I am not an ordinary person.
I am the son of a great person. So, His glory is manifesting in this world. The people who know Him, they are so eager to talk about Him.
So, we are attracted to Him. Attraction means here, God is giving us knowledge. Then, He is giving us compassion.
Then, affection. Bhajatam priti purvakam Here, what God does is He gives us wisdom. Now, what is the difference between knowledge and wisdom? Knowledge is a bit theoretical.
Yes, I am a prince. But what does wisdom mean? In reality, the king is helping me in coming to him. And what was the last one? Absorption.
The ignorance that we have, here, God gives us compassion. So, seeing anything other than God, we are not interested in it. So, after that, the third was Arjun’s question.
Now, what does Arjun do? Arjun accepts that God is the ultimate truth. And then, he asks, how to remember? How to remember? Especially, in this world. If I have to remember in this world, then how do I remember you? So, one is remembrance.
mam anusmara yudhya cha I have to do war also. So, how to do both together? God answers that in war, you will see vibhuti. If you see any special ability, with that, you can remember me.
So, the last one was 12 to 18. And then, the last one is 19 to 42. This is all vibhuti.
What does vibhuti mean? Its special existence. One above the many, he comes here. What is its meaning? Everything attractive.
Let me put it this way. Listen. Everything attractive, comes from God.
So, some all things come from God. But, some of them come to us from God. Some affinity to God.
Affinity to God. Others humility to God. Actually, I am not able to remember God in all things.
In some things, it takes me away from God. But, why is it taking me away? That is also God’s power. In this way, while remembering God, we can go closer to Him.
Thank you very much. Hare Krishna. Tomorrow, we will discuss chapter 11, where Lord Virat shows us a very dramatic chapter.
Tomorrow morning, we will discuss that. Thank you so much.
