How can we become free from irritability?
From: Meenal Manikantan
Though theoritically we know not to hate anybody but only be compassionate, at times our tolerance level drops so low that almost every body we come across irritates us and we get angry. I am able to understand that the cause for the anger is not from outside but with in one self only. However it may be, it is not pleasant to be angry, how to be free of anger and irritation? Please advice.

Question By Menal Manikantan Mataji So theoretically we know not to Hate anybody but only be compassionate At times our tolerance level Drops so low that almost Everybody we come across irritates us And we get angry.
I am able To understand That the cause For the anger is not from Outside but within oneself only However it may be It is not pleasant to be angry How to be free of anger and Irritation? Please advise. Our ability to function Effectively in life Depends On A periodic cycle of Engagement And renewal So when we engage With the world Because the world is an arena of Continuous change and often Unpredictable and uncontrollable change That change Disturbs us It irritates us So we become Depleted mentally If not physically And in general We need a period of renewal Just like if we are using a Flash player or a mobile The battery As it is used it gets discharged And then it needs to be recharged So in a similar way Our life has to Operate in cycles of Engagement And renewal So if we Find that we are getting Excessively irritable with others That indicates that we need To recharge or renew our Spiritual energies Then at that time If we can Connect with Krishna in a way That is nourishing for us For some people it is by chanting The holy names, for some people It is just going to the temple and taking darshan For some it is by hearing and Participating in kirtans, for some It is by studying scriptures For some it is just by being In association with some devotee The specific way In which we can best Recharge ourselves, renew ourselves Will vary from person To person, but the Principle is universal So essentially Especially if we are finding that Our tolerance level is going down Then that means we need that renewal very Direly And there are times when our life itself Becomes so fast and complicated That it seems very difficult to take out time For recharging ourselves But we need to recognize that If we don’t take out that time We will make Complications Because of irritation Or Short tempered outbursts That will make life Even more difficult for us So to some extent we may have to force ourselves To withdraw And renew, restrain ourselves And If we are in situations where that Renewal is absolutely not possible Then during that time At least we can Push off, postpone The provocative situations And interactions with Irritable people To do it At a time when we are More in a Positive and refreshed Frame of mind And in general if we Manage to have a cycle All of us can observe for ourselves That after a certain amount of Engagement with the complexities Of the world we start tiring And then We all need some sort of withdrawal Where we can Retreat To treat ourselves There is an article on the site Retreat within to treat without So to treat The external situation With maturity and competence We need to retreat within to go closer to Krishna And If we do this After observing ourselves We can fix up a Frequency that we need to Recharge ourselves And the time that we use For recharging ourselves will be Especially effective in Helping us cope with These sort of situations So this is the main suggestion Of course if there are specific People whom we are being Troubled by Then we may need to consult A spiritual mentor who can guide us In those specific situations But as a general overarching principle If we restrengthen Ourselves spiritually and refresh Ourselves mentally By connecting with Krishna Then we will be able to avoid These sort of Short sighted and Short tempered outbursts Thank you
