So, how can we determine our existence? we can determine our existence by observing our by observing the around us. can also observe ourselves.
Introspection is very helpful. When we say guna refers to internal comfort. If we have a quality for certain things, we are comfortable doing it.
And karma means competence. It means we are good at doing it. So, doing it, we can observe what is it that we feel comfortable doing.
And what is it that we are comfortable doing. And by observing this, we can learn. This is my mind somehow.
This is my inclination. And then we can try to increase that. So, example, if somebody is an engineer and working as an engineer in our company.
Now, within engineering also, within that broad engineering profession also, one can go in various directions. Now, one may become a manager where the work is more of a Kshatriya energy. Or, one can become a researcher or one can become a teacher, professor engineering.
That is one of our managing. So, even within our existing education and even within our existing profession, we can shift our orientation a little bit. If somebody is a professor in college, as a professor also, somebody may be more interested in research or somebody may be more interested in teaching or somebody may be more interested in managing.
And that also a person can within the frame of our career also, we can shift our focus a little bit. And that also can give us a lot of freedom. And if we feel very inspired by that, that this is what is helping me, this is, I’m good at doing this and I also feel happy doing this, then we may think of a more substantial shift in our career later.
And that may not be a big priority for us. Certainly we want to determine our sambhava and try to make our karma according to sambhava. But overall, we may not fit into necessarily any one varna.
Because what happens, as I said, it is not that a person may have characteristics of only one varna. No, we may have some characteristics of Brahmanic orientation, some characteristics of Kshatriya orientation. So we don’t have to necessarily reduce ourselves to one node alone.
Now to observe ourselves, one of the effective ways to do it is through journaling. Now journaling means we write our thoughts down. Just like we have some happy memories, we go to some nice place, some yatra, some we write down our thoughts.
Not just random thoughts, but just focused thoughts. For example, if I have a decision in my life, then I may write down, this is the pros of the decision, these are the cons of the decision. If it is a major decision that I have taken in my life, I cannot just, just writing things down clarifies a lot.
Because as long as thoughts are inside the head, they keep crowding the head, they create a sort of mental congestion. But we get the thoughts out, then we can observe them with greater perspective, greater objectivity, and we can evaluate them. And, oh, I should be doing this, I should be doing this, my message feel like that, but then we take it out and we evaluate it, yes, I can do this, then also there are these which we can face.
And in this solution we can observe them with detachment. So basically journaling is, I journal in a way, make my intelligence the And after they are out, the inner mind’s pressure goes down a little bit. Solution is not there, but still the expression is there.
And after the expression is there, we calm down, then evaluate the results. This is not solution. This is not valid.
Like that we can evaluate. And if we are going to make any major decision in our life, we should journal consistently for maybe 3 months, 6 months. Not necessarily every day.
We can put up some time once a week or once in 2-3 days, whatever. And overall, if we observe that the patterns or thoughts remain similar consistently for a long time. That means, now today I think, this profession just doesn’t work.
I want to go to some other profession. But, if there is the same thought, because the mind always goes to the same thing. Today I like something, tomorrow I don’t like something.
But, if the same thought remains, if similar mental attitude, similar disposition remains consistently for a persistent period of time, then that is not just a passing feeling of the mind. That is actually a steady inclination of the mind. So, for example, I take a snapshot of the mind now.
I write down my thoughts. And then after one week, I write them down. Like that, I keep writing them down.
And after 6 months, if I see, overall my thinking is similar, then we can understand, yes, this seems to be something which I am really driven to do. I really aspire to do this. Then we may think of making a substantial change in our life.
Sometimes we find that, just like where ever we come across, we may find within our institution itself, we can create some room for ourselves to develop what is our talent, what is our interest. Even if we don’t make our whole life leave home, even if we are able to do something according to our interest and our talent, we get some satisfaction there. Along the introspection, guidance is also very important.
Now, traditionally, the spiritual master would be there to guide. Now, in our current scenario, the spiritual master may not be so easily available for us. And especially for this kind of decisions, spiritual master may not know us personally very well.
So, at such times, if we have some senior devotees, whose guidance we can take. And most often, spiritual masters may not directly give instructions. They may just give us some guidelines, based on which we can take the decisions.
See, usually, we look at everyone through our mind. That means, our mind comes in between and that person is there. You know, if somebody praises us, we start thinking, why is this person flattering me? If somebody is criticizing me, then this person, why is he angry with me? So, what I am saying is, basically we evaluate everyone through the filter of our mind.
And that’s the way it is. Our mind filters everything that we see.
