Questioner asks a question in Hindi. Questioner responds in Hindi. What is the difference between sattva and tamogha? In sattva, our mind is our control.
And in tamogha, our mind is our control. So, if I have to find a solution to a problem, then I have to think about that problem. This is like this, this is like this, this is like this, this is like this.
And right now, I am putting it in, but I am not able to take it out. But in tamogha, the mind attracts us and brings us there. And traps us there.
And what happens there many times? Like, yes, like in TV, there is an action replay. So, it is a replay of the same picture. So, it is a replay of the same picture.
I said this, he said that. He didn’t say this, he said that. I said this, he said that.
He didn’t say this, he said that. So, the same thing is repeated again and again. And we don’t reach a solution.
Many times, the more we think about a problem, the bigger the problem becomes. So, when we think about whether there is a solution or not, and when we think about it, sometimes what happens? When we think about a problem, even if we don’t find a solution, at least our understanding increases. Okay, this is like this, this is like this.
Right now, we have one, two, three, four problems. And this problem, this problem, we have understood this much. Right now, I am talking about more problems.
But, when we think in tamogha, the more we think, the more difficult the problem becomes. And the more we feel uncomfortable after that. The more we feel disappointed.
That’s why, we have to see, by thinking, whether the problem is being solved or not. And many times, yes, we feel that first I will solve the problem, and then when the whole mind will be at peace, after that I will worship God. Right now, I will do japa, I will go to the temple, I will do kirtan, but my mind will not be at peace.
So, it is better to solve the problem first, and then I will worship God. But, what happens? There is no solution to the problem, and we don’t even worship God. But, if we say, right now, this mind is so stuck in this, that even I can’t do this, there is no solution to this.
So, I have to get my mind out of this. So, how will you get your mind out of this? First of all, we have to do something at the physical level, so that our mind doesn’t get stuck in it. Means, if we are sitting at home, sitting in the office, or in a situation where we keep thinking about problems.
So, our situation and state of mind, this is related. Suppose, we come to the temple, we come in front of a devotee, we come in such a situation, that here, we see something new, we see peace. That is not the solution to the problem, but it can be the beginning of the solution to the problem.
So, the problem is, many times, our mind, keeps thinking a lot inside, but we don’t think about what we see outside. So, we don’t think about that. So, if we get physically active, till 4 o’clock, if we do some work, then our mind gets a little diverted.
Even if it doesn’t go towards positive things, constructive things, at least, it has come out of it. And, even in bhakti, if we find a work, in which our mind, naturally, easily, becomes of God. Bhakti has different kinds.
Some people are very strong, and if their mind is diverted, then if they listen to some discourse, their mind gets filled. Yes, this is the point, this is the point. And, whatever is behind the mind, it becomes peaceful.
So, what happens to some people, by listening to the discourse, they get a little power, they get a little energy, but some people don’t get that much energy. Then, they really need the power to put their mind into the discourse. What is this point? I have to understand this.
So, what happens? For such people, there must be something else, in which their mind gets filled. Whether it is in the theatre, or in the darshan of God. So, we all have to see how our mind easily becomes of God.
And, if we are doing Bhakti in an ordinary way, at that time, we have seen, we have investigated, we have come to know that this is how our mind becomes of God. Then, we can easily make that thing available for us, we can make it accessible for us. Then, if it is a devotional song, or a darshan, or a discourse, then we can keep a photo or an audio file and we can listen to it.
Then, what happens? We can help our mind to become of God. We can easily make it accessible. And, when we make it accessible, and if we have made it a habit to do it many times, then it becomes easy to pull the mind from there.
But still, there is one thing, when the mind is stuck, it has to be pulled. For example, if something is stuck to the wall, then we can pull it. If something is so stuck, then we have to pull it with all our strength.
Sometimes, we have to wrench our mind away from undesirable thoughts. Wrench means we have to pull it forcefully. So, how can we do that forcefully? For that, we have to use our intellect.
At least, Buddha has understood that if we become a true believer, then we will think more and solve the problem. But, if we think more and solve the problem, then at least our intellect will remain awake. So, we will try to pull it.
And, if we have to pull the mind, then what happens? First, we need a lot of strength. And, if we need so much strength, then we think that we can’t do it. But, if we use that strength, then gradually, the mind moves away from the thoughts of that problem.
Then, that strength also becomes less. So, at first, we need a lot of strength. And, sometimes, we feel that we can’t do it.
But, if we use that strength, then later on, we can do it. So, on the level of bhakti, on the level of bhakti, how can our mind remain awake? And, on the level of intellect, on the level of samajna, by thinking, the problem is not getting solved. So, by thinking, we can forcefully pull the mind.
