Muni Manobhruti Pravritya Aushadham Here Kulasekhar Maharaj is comparing the holy name to a medicine and in the first part he compared it to a medicine that decreases and dissipates illusion and pacifies the agitation caused by illusion and then he says Muni Manobhruti Pravritya Aushadham the word Muni refers to thinkers Manobhruti so their tendency of the mind is to think about deeper truths and Pravritya Aushadham so the chanting of the holy names the holy name is a medicine that is a stimulant for deep thought there are different things that can stimulate us in different ways say some people who are very passionate and who want to enjoy their senses they may take stimulants that trigger, fuel their sensual desires the substances are called as Aphrodisiacs so on one level we understand that the that these external substances when they are taken in they can trigger emotions in particular ways there are some substances which are considered energy drinks now we drink them and thereafter we feel more energized we feel more inspired to do things so often advertisements somebody feels very tired and then they take one particular drink and now suddenly the energy is back so how does that happen just as there can be stimulants for sensual desire stimulants for energy can there be a stimulant for thought for thinking capacity some people try to take stimulants or memory boosters ok you eat this food your memory will improve you eat that food and your brain grows stronger now that’s possible certain substances can boost certain biological aspects of certain biological tools that are used for certain functionings so here we are talking about a medicine so sometimes these tonics or these stimulating drinks which may be called as tonics, tonics are health boosters basically so like that can we have a medicinal tonic that can boost our capacity for deeper thinking, yes we can and that Pulashekhar Maharaj says is the holy name so those who have a tendency, have an inclination to think deeply they are stimulated in that deep thinking how does this happen many ways philosophically we can understand that the holy name is transcendental and contact with the transcendental sound of the holy name pulls our consciousness upwards towards transcendence and usually our consciousness operates in the modes of passion and ignorance and from there when our consciousness rises towards transcendence then at that time it comes closer to goodness it comes into goodness so even if it doesn’t go fully to transcendence the very fact that it goes to goodness implies that it becomes more capable of deeper thinking Krishna says the characteristic of the mode of goodness becoming prominent is that it leads to the deepening of knowledge Krishna says that all the doors of the senses are illumined with knowledge that is the characteristic of the mode of ignorance so just by raising our consciousness to the mode of goodness the transcendental holy name increases our capacity for deeper thinking along with that the holy name is itself a spiritual sound a vibration which is a manifestation of Krishna which is a representation of Krishna which is it is not different from Krishna so again that contact with Krishna also stimulates deeper thought because Krishna is the deepest reality when you think deeply about things many people have different ideas of what it means to think deeply but ultimately to think deeply means to think about the deepest reality and the deepest reality is Krishna so when we come in contact with Krishna, the deepest reality naturally our thinking moves in deeper directions so further this is the converse of the previous that our thoughts can go either in superficial directions or they can go in substantial directions so for example when we look at a person we can look at their appearance and we can judge them based on their appearance either we can be attracted or appalled or we can look beyond their appearance to their substance or their character and based on that we can reciprocate so if we have too much material consciousness, too much material desires too much material perceptions then we will not be able to go to the substance, we will just be caught in the appearance but when the illusion is dissipated so the energy of our consciousness has to go somewhere by our by the very nature of consciousness it is conscious Chit is the basic faculty of the soul so we have to be conscious of something so now for example say water is flowing on a floor and if water comes to a fork if say the water is flowing through some sort of small slot in the ground for the water flow and that during its flow it comes to a slot so now if one path is blocked then naturally the water will flow in another direction so if the flow of our consciousness towards illusion, towards temptation, towards worldly distractions that is checked as happens by the chanting of the holy name so naturally energy of consciousness like the momentum caused by the flow of water that has to get the water to go somewhere so like that the momentum of our consciousness pushes it it can’t go in the superficial direction it goes to the substantial direction it can’t go towards sensuality if it is checked and going towards sensuality then it will be channeled towards spirituality so munimanavrutti pravatya ushadam in this way the holy name stimulates deeper thought and at one level we may say what if I am not a muni, I don’t have the capacity to think deeply, I am not inclined to think deeply but whatever little tendency we have ultimately we ourselves are souls so although the soul is covered by different kinds of bodies different souls are covered by different bodies and those different bodies condition the expression of the soul’s consciousness in different ways still because we ourselves are souls we do have some capacity for deep contemplation and whatever little capacity we may have we can actually take it further we can stimulate it nourish it, activate it energize it thus we can think deeper think further think stronger in the inner world and symbiotically the more we start thinking about deeper realities the less we get distracted by superficial realities be they pleasurable sensual pleasures or be they troublesome such as worldly reversals and temptations and tribulations they are the two main distractions on the path of spiritual growth path of inner culting inner redirection of our consciousness towards the spiritual level so when our vulnerability to agitation by temptations and tribulations is decreased then naturally our capacity to contemplate Krishna to contemplate his holy name increases more and more so here the point is that the holy name stimulates deep thought by firstly raising our consciousness to the mode of goodness which is conducive to deeper thought by connecting us with Krishna who is the deepest reality thereby again stimulating deeper thoughts and also by obstructing the channel of consciousness and its flow towards mundane things it then facilitates and directs the flow of consciousness towards deeper spiritual things in this way whatever be our way of thinking right now superficial or substantial we can make it deeper more substantial by steadily chanting the holy name by taking the medicine of the holy name
