Bhagavatam 1514 so here Narada Muni is continuing his instruction to Vyasa Dev in the previous verses he has described how not glorifying the lord and discussing about other subjects is undesirable so in the previous verse he says Athamahabhagan he says that oh greatly fortunate one Samadhinanusmarvicheshritam he says in trance remember the pastimes of the lord the pastimes of the lord which can do good to the whole world and now he is told that that will free the people from mental entanglement and this verse he tells what will happen if you talk about any other subjects he explains that the talk about subjects apart from the supreme lord will simply end up agitating the mind how is that apart from all this whatever one talks about as you desire to describe means a separate vision actually nothing is separate from Krishna everything that we perceive around us with our senses or everything that we conceive with our mind they are all ultimately manifestations of Krishna energy only so in one sense whatever we are conscious of either by describing or by hearing it we are ultimately conscious of Krishna only but the problem is that we are not conscious that what we are conscious of is a manifestation of Krishna and as long as the disconnectedness is there Tatkrta roopanam bhi so actually in the Vedantic language Nama roopa is generally considered to be a product of illusion the names and the forms they they attract and entangle us and that’s how the soul becomes entangled material Tatkrta roopanam bhi so whenever we have to describe anything in this world we have to take some names either of people or of objects and then we describe some forms about them this is whatever you describe nakarit kvapi chidustita matir matir the consciousness will be dustita, dustita means oscillating astita is well situated dustita means not well situated or just wandering here and there like Krishna says Arjuna says that the mind is wandering labheta so whatever one gains what is it like vatahat naurivas padam vatahat means vat is wind vat we also refer to it as what is there inside the body they use the word vat for the air in the body also when the vat is high the person cannot be at peace, the mind becomes very restless so like that the nature of the wind is that it moves and it is restless, so vatahat not only does the wind move but whatever the wind hits it causes that object also to naurivas padam so naur is the wind, is the boat just as the boat which is hit by a wind will not stay at one place but will wander, so he is comparing here the mind to the boat and the nama roop that is described which is disconnected from Krishna that to anyatha that nama roop when it hits the mind what it does it dusthita mati, dusthita so when we discuss about anything other than Krishna then that activates the mind no doubt because whatever we hear about will think about it, will feel desires in connection with and then will take actions in connection with it but when it is disconnected with Krishna then that causes restlessness restlessness in two terms, it could be oh I want it when will I get it, when will I get it, suppose we hear about a cricket match going on and if India is winning the mind gets stressed in one way, we feel excited if India is losing the mind gets activated in another way we feel irritated by it, we feel annoyed by it, but either way the problem is that we don’t the mind loses its peace so Vyasdev is telling told by Narada Muni that this will happen even if one studies the Vedic sound if that Vedic sound is not connected with the glorification of Krishna and so it isn’t specifically stated but opposite to that the sounds connected with Krishna the nama roop of Krishna does that not agitate the mind actually that is not agitation, it moves the mind towards the supreme shelter so if a boat is in a stormy ocean and whichever wind comes it will cause the boat to move but the question is where is the boat moving is it moving further, deeper into the ocean, deeper into travel or towards the coast, towards safety so the Bhagavatam in the 11th Canto also gives the example maya anukulena abhasvate vitham so it says that the wind, the Vedic literature which are talking about my glories, they are like the favorable winds that take the soul in the human body towards the destination of eternity, towards the destination of liberation so the sounds of nama roop of Krishna they will take us closer to Krishna and ultimately bring stability and satisfaction to the heart so sometimes when we are chanting we may not feel anything happening we may just feel that I am uttering a sound vibration, what am I practically doing but at a subtler level, even if we don’t become conscious of it, suppose we are in a very vast ocean, we don’t understand whether the boat is moving towards any land because we may not even see the land the ocean is very vast so like that everyday when we are chanting we may feel nothing is happening and because the waves are still there in the ocean sometimes the boat may still have its periods of restlessness so like that our mind may still have its phases of ups and downs but as long as we are exposing it to the sound vibrations connected with Krishna and are receiving those sound vibrations as submissively and attentively as possible, we are slowly but surely moving towards his destination eternity towards the security of Krishna, our attraction to Krishna will increase by hearing this and that attraction will itself become like the wind which will take us further towards Krishna and that’s why to provide people with these favorable winds O Vyasdev, you should write literature that purely glorifies Krishna and that is what Vyasdev will do when he starts compiling the Srimad Bhagavatam so when we hear the Srimad Bhagavatam there is no more rather there is as Krishna had described in the Bhagavad Gita Prashantamanasam the mind becomes peaceful and the supreme peace and joy we experience and that is what that experience will be ours if we keep chanting and remembering Krishna steadily. Thank you
