So, let us begin. Do we have a normal mic? Is it clear to all of you? I can hear myself breathing.
It is not a pleasant sensation. When we are doing an action, the concept of our action, Okay. Hare Krishna.
Hare Krishna. Can you hear me? Okay. Everybody has different conception of success.
Laughter. This definitely seems better. Thank you.
Laugher. We are all individuals. Every person is different.
So according to that, our definition of yash can be different. But along with that, there is a universal definition. And what is that universal definition? Here it is said that if we are sharir bandhaha If we are not free from the material bondage, then that is parabhava.
This is a shloka. Its first word is parabhava. And the last word is sharir bandhaha.
karmātmakaṁ yena sharir bandhaha. So what is parabhava? If we are in this body bondage and we remain in this bondage, then this is parabhava. So that is why we have to go beyond this.
So this freedom, which is called mukti, freedom, which is a more familiar word nowadays, everyone wants it. But the concept of freedom in the West and in the East, especially in India, is very different. If someone goes to America, then there is an iconic image of New York.
That is their Statue of Liberty. So that is called liberty. Now in their view, what is liberty? They say that everybody should have the right for life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
That every person has the right to live, he has freedom and he can find happiness. But in the Western countries, the concept of liberty is that basically it is, I want to be free for material desires. That according to my desires, whatever I want to enjoy, I have freedom for that.
Nobody will tell me, that you should eat this, you should not eat that. A devotee was telling me, that when Prabhupadaji went to America in 1965, at that time, nobody knew about vegetarianism. They thought that if you want to eat vegetarian food, you will have to eat vegetables.
There were no vegetarians there. There was a cartoon, a person asked him, Are you a vegetarian? No, I am an American. Are you a vegetarian? No, I am an American.
American means, I cannot be a vegetarian. That was the feeling. So, whatever I want to eat, whatever I want to enjoy, I will do that.
In the Western countries, I am not going to generalise the Western countries, there was a little spirituality in the Western countries. It is still there. But the materialism, mostly came from the Western countries.
So, there, the freedom is liberty. And that is, free for material desires. But, in India, that is liberation.
Liberation is not used very often. Sometimes it is used. And what is the meaning of liberty? Free from material desires.
Not free for, but free from. And in these two, there is a difference between the earth and the sky. Why? Because, most people feel that, I don’t have the freedom to do this, I don’t have the freedom to do that.
I don’t have the freedom to do this, I have to do this, I have to do that. And most people think that, if I get a chance to fulfil my desires, then I will be free. And to some extent, it is true.
If someone, is in such a society, where the government is like a dictator, the government is very intolerant, then a person cannot do anything. So, that freedom is good, it is necessary. But, from a physical point of view, in reality, we can never be free forever.
Right now, a person’s breath is not good. I want to be free from this disease. It is a good thing, it should be.
But after that, after being free from the disease, can that person enjoy as much as he wants? No, there will be a restriction. No matter how free we are, for material desires, what happens is, from two questions, we still become limited. What is the question? How much? How long? How much and for how long? So, what they say is, Madhulabai Shamayandurabai No matter how much the enjoyment is, in reality, it remains limited.
Suppose, there is a drunkard, and he wants to drink alcohol. And he goes to a party, to an official corporate dinner, and he sees that there is alcohol here. And he sees it, and he has a desire for alcohol.
Later, he has a boss, he is talking to the boss, but while talking to the boss, the boss’s body turns into a bottle of alcohol. So, now, he is in a hurry, when will I drink alcohol? When will I drink alcohol? And okay, now the meeting is over, and he goes to drink. Now, how much will he drink? For some time, he will drink one bottle, two bottles, three bottles.
After that, what happens? First of all, it is impossible to drink more. Once, two friends went, to drink alcohol. And then, one friend said to the other friend, it is too much, don’t drink so much.
Drinking so much is not a good idea. No, it is a great idea. Keep on drinking.
The next day, they both were together. The next day, he heard that his friend was also throwing the whole thing. So, he was throwing up, he was hanging over.
I knew it was a terrible idea. It was a very bad idea. So, this friend went immediately.
I had told you yesterday, that drinking so much is not a good idea. No, it is a good idea to drink alcohol. Waking up was a terrible idea.
So, what happens is, many times, people think that they will enjoy, but there will be no result. And it happens. It can happen after some time, but it happens.
The result is bound to come. So, no matter how free you are, no matter how much you want to enjoy, you will never be free. Now, suppose, a person is a drunkard, and he has to do something.
I have to work. I will drink just one glass. No, no, no.
Not one glass. Not one glass. It will become two or three glasses.
So, he has so much pain in his mind, that he keeps getting hurt. Suppose, there is another person, who has never drunk. He has no inclination to drink.
He has got good values since childhood. And then, he goes to the same party, meets some people, and works, and comes back. So, if he is free from that desire, then what happens is, then there is no agitation.
He comes back peacefully, he does his work, and comes back. So, when this person, who is a realist, here, jijnasataatmatatvam, everyone is doing jijnasa, that how can I fulfil my desires, that I have to fulfil my desires. And, what is this? Some people make a big difference, that I am fulfilling my desires, ethically, and unethically.
Yes, this difference is necessary, from the point of view of the society. Someone is earning money, someone is earning money by cheating, and someone is earning money, From the point of view of the material world, there is a big difference. From the point of view of the material world, there is a big difference.
But, no matter how much difference there is, in the end, the person, no matter how much money he gets, the enjoyment the person can have, that is limited. So, that is why, this, jijnasa, Now, jijnasa, we can talk about two things, that my enjoyment, how can I increase it. Enjoyment means, by doing material work, how can I get more enjoyment.
And here, the second enjoyment is, atmatatvam. Atmatatvam means, who am I really? Now, it is important to ask, who am I? Because, when I will understand, who am I? Then, how can I get the real enjoyment? That, we can ask. That, we can know.
So, the jijnasa, every person is doing jijnasa. And, the people who are doing jijnasa, they are doing jijnasa, that how can I get more enjoyment. How can I get more enjoyment? Now, what has happened in western countries, that, the physical development, is much more than in foreign countries.
There also, it has started decreasing, but still it is there. So, the technology, the advancement of technology, because of this, people have become comfortable. Comfortable, at the level of the body.
Comfortable, at the level of the body. But, unfortunately, at the level of the mind, still, miserable. Still, very sad.
On the contrary, it is getting more sad. Has anyone heard this word? Sad. What is the meaning of sad? Everyone knows the meaning of sad.
Is there any other meaning of sad? The one, which talks about mental distress. Yes. Three main mental health problems.
Good. Stress, anxiety, depression. These three things, because of this, people are very miserable.
So, in western countries, people are physically comfortable. They are sitting in the AC, but there is stress. And because of stress, they are sweating.
So, people are, comfortably, miserable. And, what is happening here, is a very unfortunate thing. So, because of this, what is happening is, the mind needs peace.
So, many people have come to know that, if you do some meditation, some mindfulness, then your mind becomes peaceful. Now, many people have come to know this, and, many people have experienced this. But, what is this? It is, people are, amazingly, uncurious.
Do you know what is curious? To enquire. Uncurious means, not to enquire. Many people know, what is this? If you do some meditation, then your mind becomes peaceful.
But, how does the mind become peaceful, through meditation? People, care very little about that. Like, do some deep breathing, say some mantra, say some OM, do this, do that. If the mind becomes peaceful, it is good.
But, you get the benefit of that, that the mind is becoming peaceful, still, you don’t enquire. Now, Stanford University, has given a multi-billion dollar grant, to make a meditation helmet. What is this meditation helmet? Because, they have seen that, earlier, scientists used to say, all scientists, who are very materialistic, not all scientists are materialistic, but, the reductionistic scientists, what is reductionistic? They want to reduce, the complexity of reality, to just matter.
all the experiences of humans, they want to reduce it, to brain chemistry. That, the processes happening in the brain, we get all the experiences from that. So, earlier, some people used to say, this meditation is all hocus-pocus, nothing happens from it.
But, later they saw, many people are getting benefit from it. And then, they did research. When they did research, they saw that, those who do meditation regularly, their brain, the wiring of the brain, is different.
The brain has different areas, and some areas, those who are short-tempered, so, some areas of their brain, are more active. So, the synapses in the brain, have crosstalk. What is crosstalk? There are two brain cells, where the synapses are linked.
So, what happens from that? Information transfer happens, understanding happens, action happens. So, when one synapse is linked here, and the other one is also linked there, what happens? Two thoughts are going together, so, we get distracted. So, if the crosstalk is less, means, one time, now, one synapse never happens, the brain works very fast.
But, if the crosstalk is less, then, the person can work better. So, they saw that, those who do meditation regularly, their brain, it is better formed. The areas of their brain, which are necessary for healthy functioning, their impulse control is good, their emotional regulation is good, it is called delayed gratification.
Delayed gratification means, everyone wants happiness, but, if someone wants to enjoy, that person can delay it. Now, I want to watch a movie, but, I have an exam tomorrow. Okay, after the exam, I will watch a movie.
So, the ability to delay that much, yes, I will tell you later, so, that person can work responsibly. So, now, it is told that, different areas of the brain, the person, who has the ability to delay gratification, so, some area of the brain is more powerful, or, it is more well developed. What happens is, with the help of neural imaging, which area of the brain becomes light, we see.
If someone is an addict, so, with the help of brain imaging, we can find out to some extent, this person is an addict. Now, we don’t know from whom he is an addict, from what he is an addict. But, what happens is, I am not going into neuroscience here, but, I am giving an example, that, this, is not the curiosity of the soul.
So, now, the benefit of meditation is, but, what did he do? Many people say that, what is this, this area of the brain, if this area becomes light, then, you will find peace. If this area becomes light, then, you will feel satisfied. Hmm? So, if this area becomes light, then, your positive emotions will increase.
So, what he is saying is, whatever you get from meditation, that, we will give you a helmet, and, from the helmet, he will send the electricity from the electrode, to that area of the brain, and, you will get that, that, that. So, now, what he is doing is, the whole meditation, has been reduced to, material brain phenomena. So, what is this? Basically, human experience, human experience, actually, it is not even human experience, we call it, spiritual experience.
What are you doing to that? To that, simply, brain chemicals. This is called, reductionism. Reductionism means, to make a big thing, very small.
To make everything, very small. So, what is this? Even though, the benefit of meditation is there, but, the curiosity about the Atma Tatva, is not there. And, because of this, many times, the people, who regulate themselves, they can regulate, but they are not able to do it.
In the Shastra, the Yoga was told, Yoga is, Yoga Paddhati. What is the meaning of Yoga? To join. So, in India, since ancient times, the Yoga was there, this is for, spiritual realisation.
They could do Yoga, because, Dhyana Vasthita Tatgate Namanasah Pashyantiyam Yogino By going to meditation, we can see, what is inside, we can see the Atma, we can see the Paramatma. But, unfortunately, what happens is, in western countries also, Yoga has become very popular. But, the popularity of Yoga, is not for spiritual things, at all.
What is that? I have to get fit, I have to become attractive. I have to do this Yoga, so that, I can do Yoga, with someone else’s attractiveness. I can find a more attractive partner.
For that, people are doing Yoga. I was in California, there, there was a bumper sticker on a car, it was written, the more I get to know people, the more I love my dog. The more I know people, the more I love my dog.
So, people betray their trust, people don’t fulfil their expectations. So, what has happened now is, earlier, Yoga was, to connect with God. Now, what has happened later is, Yoga is, to connect with humans, on a physical level, on the level of enjoyment.
I will look more attractive, I will look more attractive. So, with that, I will be able to enjoy with someone else. So, this has happened.
Now, with that also, there is a new variant of Yoga, it is not mentioned at all in the scriptures, it is called Doga. Can anyone guess what Doga is? It is Yoga with dogs. I do everything, I do everything with my dog.
So, I have to do Yoga with my dog. So, I was in Govardhani Kovilage, there was a person there, he said, I am a Doga trainer. I said, what? So, I saw on Google, actually, it is quite big.
If I move my hand like this, my dog also moves his front paws like this. I stand on one leg, my dog also stands on one leg. So, the Doga trainer, what does he do? He teaches Yoga to people, to a person and to a dog.
He teaches Yoga to both. So, if it is Doga, there is also Koga. What is Koga? Cats.
So, here, the curiosity of the Atma Tatva, what was the purpose of Yoga? To be curious of the Atma Tatva. And when someone does Yoga, then what happens? The more the consciousness goes to the spiritual level, the more the mind becomes calm. Because the more the mind is attached to many things, the more it is, if it is attached to many things, then there is instability in it.
Will I get this or not? If I get it, it will be so good. If I get it, what will happen if I lose it later? So, attachment will bring agitation. This is natural.
So, what happens with Yoga? In reality, there is a bit of egoism. And then we ask, how is this egoism coming? What is happening in reality? That, I am the Atma, I am an eternal being, and all the things in this world are eternal. So, through experience, in reality, a person can move towards the spiritual level.
So, what happens with bad luck? Some experience also comes, still that person keeps moving towards many things. So, now, how can we in reality, this Atma-Tattva-Jigyansa, how can it come? This Jigyansa, Atma’s Jigyansa, in reality, comes primarily from two methods. One is experience, and the other is intelligence.
That, we have some experience, and that experience, why is this experience happening? This, we do a little research about it, we discuss it with intelligence. Many people have many experiences. In western countries, many people are atheists.
Actually, not atheists, they say that, there is a word, Nun. That, that Christian, N-U-N Nun is not there, that is N-O-N-E Nun. Means, I don’t belong to any religion.
I am a Nun. they say that, all religions fight with each other. They fight that, what is going to happen in the next life, and in this life, they are bringing hell.
So, and to some extent, unfortunately, this is true. That, when it becomes a Sankiranavadi religion, then this happens. But, they say that, we don’t care about spirituality.
But, there are such people also, many people have said that, if we go to a religious place, if we go to a church, if we go to a temple, if we go to a spiritual place, if we go to a holy place of a tradition, if we go there, then we feel some peace. We feel something different. Nowadays, it is called vibes.
The vibes of this place are different. Vibrations, something different is coming here. I feel some peace, I feel some comfort.
So, those who are atheists, those who are materialistic, those who are not interested in spirituality, such people also feel, that something different is happening here. And it is good to feel that. Prabhupada ji used to say that, when we go to a temple, then the idols should be decorated so beautifully, that the people who are distracted in their mind, by seeing the idols, by seeing the atmosphere of the temple, by seeing the whole ambience, by seeing that, they get relief, they get peace, they get peace.
So, this experience, many people experience. But, why is that experience happening? That, needs to be studied. So, if experience and intelligence, if both come together, that, okay, I experienced, but why am I experiencing this? If I do japa, if I do some meditation, then, my mind is getting peaceful.
So, why is this happening? So, what is behind this, in reality? When they do Jigyansa, for them, intelligence is required. So, for some people, this Jigyansa, starts with experience. Most of the people, in reality, start with experience.
That, they come in the company of devotees. For any reason, they come in the company of devotees. That, in America, 20-30 years ago, Hare Krishna, which was there, was in the mind of many people.
Devotees used to be on the way, used to do kirtan, used to do distribution. So, I asked many people in America, they were telling, that, how many Hare Krishna people are there in America? They said, at least 20-30 lakhs. So, the actual number of devotees, was never this much.
But, they were visible everywhere. So, what was the reason for this? That, people used to think that, there are many devotees. So, what do you think about the Hare Krishnas? So, some people, asked such questions.
There was a religion survey going on, about different religions. So, what happened? Many people answered, in America, a jolly bunch of impractical people. That, they are jolly, they laugh, sing, dance, they are good people.
But, what does this have to do with our daily life? They used to feel, that, this whole lifestyle is impractical. Why is this? Because, they have experienced, they have seen, that devotees dance, sing, look happy. But, what is the spiritual knowledge behind this? They don’t know that.
So, what is the spiritual knowledge? They used to feel, that, these impractical people, are dancing, singing in their own world. This is our actual, our real world. They have nothing to do with this.
But, this is not so. This is spiritual knowledge. It is, which, in reality, spirituality, especially, Krishna Conscious Spirituality, has two objectives.
We will talk about this, better tomorrow. One is, Transcending the world. That, yes, we are going beyond the world, and experiencing ourselves.
But, the second is, transforming the world. That, yes, we have to transcend, we have to go beyond this world, we have to make spiritual progress. This is important.
But, along with this, it is not that, we have to leave the world. Yes, we have to leave it in the end, but, as long as we are in the world, we have to try to increase the consciousness of the world. When God comes here, then, Dharmasamsthapanarthaya, He is transforming the world as well.
So, for most people, the spirituality, it seems good, it is a good break, but, we have to live our daily life, what is the connection with that? So, it seems like a good experience, but, if we are not curious about it, if we do not use our intellect, or if our intellect does not get nourishment, then, what happens is, one, we have a spiritual life, and the other, we have a daily life. These do not have any connection. And, then, okay, when I get time, I will do it.
When I feel good, I will do it. When I feel like doing it, I will do it. And, in reality, in our life, there is not much change.
Because, it becomes just like, whenever I get time, I will do it. But, it is being told here, that, when we are curious, then, Krishna Consciousness, it changes our whole life. It is, Krishna Consciousness, is not just, another, to do.
In my life, I have to do this, I have to do that, I have to do this, I have to do that. Yes, I have to do so many things, I have to chant, I have to go to the temple, so, another to do. But, no, in reality, Krishna Consciousness, is another way, to do.
That, I have to live in life, I have to do the work, which is my responsibility, but, in a different way. I have to do it, with a different consciousness. So, if we live with that consciousness, then, the impact, is not there.
Devotees, can also enjoy in this world. It is not that, they will not get it. But, the life, will be meaningful, in this world, and life, will be meaningful, beyond this world.
In this world also, our life, will be meaningful, and beyond this life, also, it will be meaningful. So, Krishna Consciousness, is another way, to do. When, we understand the soul, the soul, and understanding the soul, the spiritual, level, we start living, our whole life.
About that, we will discuss, I will summarise. Today, we saw three points. First, how, we, today, the impact, impact means, the desire.
So, when a person, is working, while working, the person, has some thoughts, and according to those thoughts, the person, he, decides about, success and failure. So, what happens is, success, in any work, has some, essential criteria, and some, non-essential. If he is going to college, then yes, he has good friends, he is getting good food, that is a good thing.
But in college, first of all, we are going to study. If he is coming to spiritual class, then spiritual knowledge, is essential. And humour, is secondary.
In everything, the success and failure, in our life, what is essential, and what is non-essential, is decided according to that. So, the second thing we see is, that everyone, wants happiness. And everyone thinks, if I want happiness, then I want freedom.
But what is freedom? In western countries, they, call it, liberty. Liberty means, I am free, for, material desires. That, there is a lack of money, there is such a culture, there is such a religion, there are such rules, there is such a government.
Because of that, I am not able to enjoy. But, what is there in India, in Indian culture? Liberation. The liberation that has been told, what was that? Free, from, material desires.
That, if I get free from, material desires, then again, all the agitation happens. We gave the example of, a drunkard. A drunkard, I want to drink, as much as I want to drink.
Okay, that is a kind of, But that, how much, how long? That is limited. We cannot do much. But, when we are, free from, material desires, then, we become peaceful.
Our peaceful, and, purposeful. We will talk about these two, tomorrow. The mind can be calm, and, the work that I have to do, the responsibility, I can fulfil that.
And, if I have to attain this, then, what do we need? We need curiosity. Especially, what do we need curiosity for? Self-realisation. In reality, what is my real identity? This, is important to understand.
So, we saw, how, sometimes, what happens, that a person, is a spiritual thing. About that, only material enquiry, happens. Material, spiritual thing, like, Yoga.
So, what happens with Yoga? With Yoga, it becomes, Doga. Or, meditation. What happens with meditation? It becomes, a brain helmet.
That, wear a helmet, so that, if meditation is peaceful, then, it will be peaceful. So, if this happens, then, such type of curiosity, does not benefit a person. So, how do we do curiosity? In reality, we all, sometimes, experience something, that, a different experience, that, some peace, some peace, we get.
So, after the experience, we get, intelligence. How is this experience, coming? I mean, what, what is happening, Why is this happening? When, we do curiosity, then, with that curiosity, in reality, what happens? Spirituality, which is, it becomes, it has two things, one is, transcending, but, the other is, transforming. Now, sometimes, I experience, but, along with that, which is, I can, regularly, live my life, in a different way, by which, I can, change my life.
Thank you very much. Hare Krishna. Is there any question? Yes, please.
Do you have a mic? Hare Krishna. So, actually, every lecture, I attend a few, every time, blockbuster performance. So, thank you so much.
Once you said about, flopbuster and blockbuster. So, thank you so much about that. So, you mentioned that, when people do, material enquiry, or material curiosity, about spiritual things, that is of, no use.
I just wanted to check that, that, I didn’t say, no use. What am I doing, and why am I doing it? Thank you. So, definitely, if people are, adopting yoga, adopting meditation, so, that is a sign, of the rising of, sattva, in human society.
Sattva is increasing, in people. Okay. That only, I wanted to check.
Thank you. Thank you. Hello.
Hare Krishna. Please, accept my, humble obeisances, and thank you, for such a, wonderful class. Professor, I had a question, like, in the last, we discussed that, experience and intelligence.
So, someone has some, spiritual experience, and on that basis, if they have some, intelligence, with the help of intelligence, they can try to, uncover, what are the secrets, behind why I am having, such an experience. So, in this, this point, is coming to my mind. What if, they understand that, the material enjoyment, in this world, is restricted.
So, one thought, could be that, this is restricted, and I have to find, the right way to enjoy, and that is how, I can enter spirituality. But, second thought could be, that why it is, restricted. Why things are the way, they are working, right? Why am I restricted? So, in such a case, if a person is having some thoughts, or, if we are having these thoughts, about restrictions, in everything, then, how to approach this, and you know, from the very base, uproot this very question.
What is the correct understanding, behind this, this question? This is a good question. If someone is thinking, that, why is my enjoyment, restricted? So, why can’t I, go beyond those limits? So, actually, in Silicon Valley, there is a whole, philosophy, which is called, transhumanism. What does transhumanism, mean? It means that, we humans, our human life, is intrinsically, We are old, I am old, So, we have to go beyond this.
Because, because of this, we are not able to enjoy. We are not able to enjoy. The word enjoyment, is a negative word, which we use, but, we are not able to enjoy.
So, their goal is, that, we will, through technology, what will we do? We will go beyond, all these limits. So, yes, if someone is sick, or, if we can make some medicine, that is a good thing. But, what is there in this? Through technology, a person, can go beyond, satwa, rajas, and tamas.
He can go in all directions. Suppose, there are some people, who, right now, if we want to, maintain good health, then, we should regulate, our eating. Whether, the vegan consciousness, vegetarian consciousness, is increasing, or, in Silicon Valley, intermittent fasting is going on.
People say, that, don’t eat, for a long time. So, these are some, sattvic trends. So, this too, scientific research.
Of course, you can say, this has been told, But, the thing is, that, going beyond, our limitations, is a, natural process. But, how do they go? There are, different methods, for that. If someone, is in Rajogun, then, he will say, how, I will, take some, There is a medicine, called Ozempic, which, people say, it is a magical, weight loss pill.
But, for some time, it is magical, and then, it becomes, maniacal. It has, crazy effects. So, someone, can do it, So, someone, can go to Thamogun, for that.
So, the thing is, how, if we are thinking, then, the thing is, we don’t have to, rigidly separate, between material, and spiritual. That difference, I will talk about tomorrow, the transcending, or transforming. But, the thing is, what are we doing? So, if someone, there is, see, all progress, progress, in any direction, has to begin, with a basic, acceptance, of reality.
That, the situation, is such, and, how can I, from this situation? And, someone says, this situation, is unfair. Okay, they can say, but, to what extent, are we going to, Someone, now, let’s take, an example, from India, people, want to enjoy, want to enjoy, material things. So, Prabhupada, used to say, what happens with this? If, for this, in India, or other countries, there used to be, a boundary.
What was the boundary? It was marriage. But, now, people say, we want free love. And, there is no need, So, Prabhupada used to say, what happens with this? When men and women, come together, the woman becomes pregnant.
And, the woman has to take, all the responsibilities. Or, the woman has to, go to the government, and ask for money. So, now, what is it? Against this, some people say, that, this is nature, being unfair, to women.
And, in other countries, there is a woman, who does not have a child, that, she is called, a motherless child. I mean, they don’t say that. But, it is a sad thing.
Sorry, not a motherless child, but, a childless mother. Ok, can somebody, mother? A childless woman, basically, not a mother. But, in other countries, they say, I am not childless, I am child free.
Now, this, child free, I mean, how to say, that, a child is a burden, I am free from it. Thank God, your parents, did not think like that. So, what it is, it is a gift, given by nature.
It is a, super power, associated with, female body, that is what, keeps humanity, going. This woman, has been given, a gift. But, now, she is considered, a burden.
So, now, this propaganda, which is, very aggressive, feminists, there are, generations of feminists, but, the fourth, fifth generation, of feminists, they say, that, pregnancy, is biological slavery. Abortion, is technological liberation. They say, that, being pregnant, is because, has made, the woman, a slave to it.
Biology, has made the woman, a slave to it. And, being pregnant, is because, has given, the woman, freedom. Now, this is, such a perverted mentality.
This is, because, in western countries, especially, the population, is decreasing, a lot. And, because of this, if, in western countries, people, don’t go from other countries, be it, India, China, Middle East, then, the population, And, the whites, they are called, WASPs, White Anglo-Saxon Protestants, they are the prominent, demographic. So, in them, the white people, the five big cities of America, Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, DC, and, San Francisco.
In these five cities, these white people, the number of pets, is more than the number of children. So, they say, I don’t want children, but, in every human being, a caring, there is a need, to be needed, a need, to nurture, this is a natural need, of a human being, that, my existence, is different from someone else’s existence, someone else’s existence, is dependent on me, this is a natural need, of a human being, so, what happens, I don’t want children, I don’t want children, I will have free sex, and, I will do abortion. Now, I am not blaming women, over here, I am just saying that, this is the whole ideology, for this, men are responsible, women are responsible, everyone is responsible, but, what is happening, is that, we don’t want children, but, there is a need, to be nurtured, so, they, take dogs, they raise dogs, I, in Los Angeles, no, where was I? I was in California, so, there, a western couple, came to a programme, so, he, was talking to them, later, so, the man was in some company, he was her husband, he was working in some company, so, the wife was saying that, I am a, stay at home, dog mom, I am a, stay at home, dog mom, what does this mean? I have a dog, which is like my child, and I stay at home, and take care of my dog, so, these days, if someone is a stay at home, they say, don’t you have a job, we will look at him, but, this is the ideology, I am a, stay at home, dog mom, If there are human children, we have to take care of them.
What is that? You are so old-fashioned. But my dog is a child. I have to take care of him.
You are so modern. You are so cool. So, the limitations of nature, how are we trying to go beyond those limitations? If humans don’t reproduce, even biologically, if we say that survival is the fittest, we are just biological machines.
We don’t have a soul. But even from a biological perspective, there are two main functions of all biological beings. One is to survive and the other is to reproduce.
We live and we reproduce. So, people are committing suicide. Humans are the only species who commit suicide.
Humans are the only species who commit suicide. Sometimes dogs do it, if they get spoiled by human association. But, what has happened is, even at the level of basic biology, human society is failing.
Instead of surviving, we are trying to end our life. No other species does this. All species reproduce, but we are not reproducing.
So, there is something, a big problem there. So, basically, everybody wants to go beyond limitations. It is natural.
But how are we going? Are we doing something to go beyond those limitations, by which we are destroying our own species? That is unhealthy. In 16.9 Bhagavad Gita, it is said that, when the entire materialistic world looks at a person, then what happens? First of all, destroy the soul. The soul is never destroyed.
But, the ability to know about the soul, is destroyed. But, along with that, the person starts to destroy the world. So, similarly, unfortunately, the same situation is happening in the world.
So, we should just encourage a person, everybody wants to go beyond limits. But, in going beyond limits, are we actually making things better, or are we making them far worse? Thank you. Any other questions? Go ahead.
Go ahead, I will repeat. There was a question, that we experience things many times. There are some good experiences in spiritual life, and some bad experiences in the material world.
So, both have an experience. And, according to the Shastras, we also see it intelligently. That, okay, this is an experience, it is also written in the Shastras.
But, the transformation that has to be done by using that experience and intelligence, is done for a very limited time. I mean, how they say, it remains for a long time, the transformation. The change that we experience, we use our intellect, we experience it.
So, most of the time, there is no change. So, why is that? In reality, different people have different kinds of conditionings. So, how much conditioning a person has, according to that, the decision is made.
That, the experience that has come, the awakening of the intellect, how long will its effect last? Suppose, a person drinks alcohol. After that, he has hangover. He has headache.
He has different kinds of effects. He says, I will never drink again. Never.
He stays for 24 hours. Never. But, some people are like, you know, I had a very bad drug trip.
Some people do drugs. And, after the drug, they feel very bad. Then, they remember, I am never going to take drugs again.
So, it is possible that, to some extent, it is our own wish. But, if a person has a lot of conditioning, then, the same thought will come again and again. And, the person will get stuck in the same experience.
So, if there is no immediate change, then, we need to be patient. Sometimes, there is a lot of conditioning in the mind. So, then, to change it, it takes time.
Suppose, our computer browser. How is it? If you want to understand the mind, then, you can see it in two ways. One is, moral, from the ethical level.
That, I have done unethical things. But, the other is, clinical. What does clinical mean? A mind, is like a machine, like a machine.
And, a machine, works through a process. So, suppose, our mind, we can call it a software. It is our phone’s browser.
So, if, in our phone’s browser, someone goes to a website. Have you heard of it? It is a small thing in Mumbai. Have you heard of it? So, suppose, someone has gone to a website, like Bollywood.com. So, maybe he has gone there 10 times.
Suppose, he has gone there 50 times. Then, later, he comes for a lecture. Then, he listens to Bhagavad Gita.
He says, I want to know Bhagavad Gita. So, he goes to his browser, and types B for Bhagavad Gita. So, what happens? He goes to Bollywood.com. So, why did he come now? Because, it is stored in the browser’s history.
So, our mind is also like that. So, suppose, someone is under stress. When someone is under stress, he feels like watching TV.
But, when we come to a temple, and do Kirtan, he also gets stressed. So, the next time, when he gets stressed, he feels, it is good to do Kirtan, instead of watching TV. But, still, if we have watched TV 100 times, and done Kirtan once, then, as soon as he gets stressed, then, what happens to his mind? It gets auto-complete.
Watch TV. So, this is a mechanical thing. So, what should we do for this? If this is happening, then, as much as possible, we have to type complete Bhagavad Gita.
We have to type. There are 12 letters. It is a lot of hard work for him.
But, if he types, then, that also gets stored in the browser history. And, suppose, a person goes to Bhagavad Gita dot com 25 times. So, what happens now? If he goes once or twice, then, that also gets auto-complete.
If he goes there 25 times, then, what happens? He will not only get auto-complete, but, he will get auto-complete earlier. Because, he went to Bollywood 50 times earlier. Now, he has gone to Bhagavad Gita dot com 25 times.
Then, he will get auto-complete more easily. But, suppose, he has gone to Bollywood dot com Then, he will not get auto-complete 25 times earlier like Bhagavad Gita dot com. He will have to do it for some more time.
So, in the same way, if a person has a very deep conditioning, then, that means, he has done one type of work many times. So, the new positive work that he is doing, he will have to so many times. So, now, the Bollywood dot com auto-complete that comes, for that, Vairagya.
And, the Bhagavad Gita that has to be typed, for that, Abhyas. If the mind has to be changed, then, what does God say? Abhyasena tu kaunteya Vairagyena chagrohyate. So, what does Abhyas mean? Persistence.
Practise or persistence. do the right work. Okay, I got stressed.
I had to watch TV again. Time was wasted. Okay, it was not good.
Time was wasted. But, maybe, that thought came to mind. So, it took time.
Do Kirtan as much as possible. Come with devotees as much as possible. Do the positive work.
And, do Vairagya Abstinence. What does Abstinence mean? That, when I press B, immediately, Bollywood comes automatically. But, I never press Enter.
I don’t go there. So, if we keep doing both, this, Persistence and Abstinence, then, slowly, transformation will come. So, in some things, transformation happens fast, if the conditioning is not there.
In some things, transformation takes time. Thank you. Hare Krishna, Guruji.
Thank you for the wonderful class. Guruji, as you said, if we get experience, we have to check it with intelligence. As you said, in starting, we do chanting, or do Bhapaath in Kirtan, then, we feel peacefulness.
But, as we progress, sometimes, it feels that mind is becoming more heavy now. Mind is more speaking during chanting. Mind is more speaking, more bad thoughts.
And, sleep, is coming in chanting. So, how intelligence can understand this? See, how it is, intelligence has one more role. Intelligence means to understand that some things may be beyond the intelligence.
That, we can say, that is, intellectual humility. That, mind, it is like a child. So, if someone’s child is crying, then, we try to calm the child.
And, why is the child crying? May be, he didn’t get food, he has stomach pain. So, we try to understand. But, how it is, you can never understand every single behaviour of the child.
the child’s mood changes. So, if parents try to understand every mood of the child, then, parents will become mad. Now, it is not like, that we can let the child do anything.
But, children are children. So, they have to keep some boundaries. But, without that, it is difficult So, mind is like a child.
So, when someone suddenly changes feels heavy, we try to as much as we can. We try to understand. So, you can see, may be, before this, this person talked to me, and he said this.
Because of that, I am a little discouraged. Or, if I do this before doing then, during japa, I don’t have enthusiasm. We can understand, if I eat a lot at night, then, the next day, I do japa, then, I feel sleepy.
So, to some extent, we can understand the causal patterns, that why this is happening. One function of intelligence, is to try to find the link between effect and cause. Understanding this link, is the characteristic of But, sometimes, we don’t understand.
So, instead of that, simply tolerance. Sometimes, we are in a situation, we say, bear it. So, compare your mind to a child.
And, try to understand as much as you can. But, beyond that, keep it under boundaries, and tolerate it. Okay.
Thank you. Last question. We’ll stop with this.
Okay. We’ll have more sessions afterwards. But, where is the mic? Should we stop here, Prabhu? No, no, no.
Okay. Hare Krishna. Prabhu, here, we find, that, sorry, Bharat is speaking, that somehow, till the time one comes to spiritual platform, so he cannot, there is no relief.
And, he goes to explain that, how one is entangled in fruitive activities. So, in 11th canto, Krishna also, in Uddhava Gita, he speaks one complete chapter on nature of fruitive activities, in which, he goes to explain the philosophy of Jaimini. Before that, he explains 24 gurus, and then 10 shlokas, how you should do, you should accept, follow Vaisnavism.
But then, he goes to explain the nature of fruitive activities, where he explains the Jaimini philosophy very deeply. So, can you explain some the main points of Jaimini philosophy and how it is, there are many flaws in it. Because it says that, by fruitive activities, one can be eternally happy in this material world.
And, the whole society which we see, modern society or anything, that is also somehow based around it. Okay, it is quite a long question. First of all, the answer will be longer.
But, I will try to explain briefly. But, maybe we can talk separately after this, if required. So, here, Bhagavatam 11th verse says that, the material activities, the fruitive activities, for the purpose, I will just make two points over here, and questions can also come in it, but that will be separate.
How it is, that, the scripture, has two aspects. One is, it has a timeless message, and the other one is a timely message. Timeless means what? In that such principles will be told which are for ever.
And the timely is for that time. Now Arjun is told by God to do war. So, whether you do war or not, that is the timeless message of Gita.
No, that is the timely message. Now what is it? In which consciousness do you do war? Karishye Vachanam Tava. Service of God.
So, if we look at it from that perspective, then the spiritual knowledge, through the path of spiritual knowledge, also tells us about the transcendence of this world. That has also been accepted. That has also been confirmed.
And the… I will make one more point. This is the broad focus of Bhagavad Gita. Now, I won’t go into Germanist philosophy, but I will make one more point here.
How is it? That the Vedas, what is the meaning of the Vedas? About this, different sages and sages differ. So, the six elements of knowledge of the Vedas, but they differ in the conclusion of the Vedas. So, there are six departments in the same university.
So, they are like one university and six departments. But over time, these ended up becoming six different universities. And then they started competing among each other.
So, in the Bhagavad Gita, it is said that this is the progressive vision of the six systems. This is the competitive vision. So, in the Bhagavad Gita, it is said that this is the progressive vision of the six systems.
This is the competitive vision. But in some places, they are not so strongly condemned. Because there, the purpose is something specific and timely.
