shumit bhagavatam 8 311 satvena patilabhyaya naishkar nena vipashchita nama kaiva janatha nirvana sukha sambhide Gajendra is praying over here satvena patilabhyaya you are attained transcendental devotional activities nama kaivalya nathaya you are the master of the impersonalists so Prabhupada translates kaivalya not just as impersonalist but everything in the spiritual world is free from material existence so he is the lord of all spiritual existence nirvana nirvana nirvana nirvana nirvana nirvana nirvana nirvana nirvana nirvana nirvana nirvana nirvana nirvana nirvana nirvana nirvana nirvana nirvana spiritual transcendental happiness remains accessible to us now sometimes simplistically we say that all that everything that we do in devotional service is transcendental. We do book distribution, we do fundraising, we do management, we do our worldly professions because we are devotees all of it is transcendental. In one sense it is but the effect is because it is connected with Krishna but the effect that it has in our consciousness may not be transcendental.
In fact quite often it is not transcendental, it is material. We get contaminated by such things. So that’s why engaging in activities that are centrally transcendental, that are essentially transcendental, like hearing, chanting, studying scripture, worshipping the deity, these are extremely important for us.
To the extent we are engaged in activities that are entirely transcendental, to that extent our consciousness will go closer and closer to transcendence and then when we engage in activities that are partially transcendental and partially not so transcendental because we are getting infected by material consciousness then the reservoir of transcendence that we had accumulated during our absorption transcendental activities will carry us through at other times also. We see that when we do our sadhanas strongly in the morning then during the rest of the day we are able to at least not get dragged down into gross materialism and we are able to even remember Krishna reasonably well during the day if we try. But if we are spaced out in our morning sakhira sadhana then the rest of the day we get dragged down very easily.
So nishkara meena tilabhyaya, the Lord is transcendental and we can experience transcendental happiness to the extent we tune our consciousness to the transcendental level. When we do various services, now if we distribute a lot of books then when we feel happy is the happiness transcendental or not? It is transcendental in one sense but in another sense it is also contaminated by the kartahamiti manyati that I distribute so many books. It’s possible that it might be there, that contamination might be there.
Some of us may not have that contamination but when we chant, when we study scripture and absorb ourselves in remembrance of Krishna, there there is nirvana sukha samvede, that is there we let Krishna give us experiences of happiness that is nirvana sukha, that is unconnected with matter and that’s why by remembering that our meditation time, our hearing time, our study time is the opportunity to go towards transcendence. We can focus our energy on them as exclusively as possible and thereby let Krishna give
