so there are different areas in our life our health, our profession our spiritual life our family and friends so the more time we spend on one we spend less time on the other and we feel frustrated because we are not doing enough in some fields how do we actually balance yes, often the problem with balance is that we expect a rigid formula for balance this time I’ll do this, this time I’ll do that this time I’ll do that and that doesn’t work because we are not God so we can’t orchestrate everything in our life according to a perfect plan and that’s why balance is more dynamic condition rather than static formula dynamic adaptation rather than static formula that means see if I’m going on a cycle straight if I’m going straight but there is a building over there then I turn right normally when I’m going straight on cycle the vertical state is the balanced state but when I turn right at that time the tilted state is the balanced state if I stay only tilted then I just go round in a circle I stay tilted little bit then I again make a vertical then again I say flip and then I move forward so that way the balanced state in a cycle is dynamic normally you would say the horizontal state is the balanced state but sometimes to keep moving onwards we need to be tilted towards left or tilted towards right so like that we there are plans and there is planning so in life plans don’t work but planning works that means what? plans means I think okay I’ll do this this, this, this, this but suddenly something happens and I can’t do anything so if we stick if we are too attached to plans then what happens? when one plan doesn’t work first we want to micro control I want everything to work this, this, this way and when it doesn’t work then we just give up all control whatever happens let it happen we become like that so no but the extreme is planning the planning means we have an overall understanding okay I have to do this, this, this, this and at a certain time in our life one particular area may require more time and we give more time at that time so if I have a if I think while I am riding the cycle my purpose is to stay in the vertical condition then I will not necessarily reach the destination if I come to a block but if I know my purpose is to go in this direction and normally when I am vertical I go in this direction but when there is a wall I’ll have to shift I’ll have to tilt then I’ll go in that direction then I can tilt again so like that planning means having that sense of compass okay this is the direction which I want to go plans means focusing on the clock I’ll do this, I’ll do this, I’ll do this at this time this at this time, this at this time, this at this time now that clock based control often doesn’t work but the compass based orientation that does work so yes it is that sometimes if we fall sick we just have to put out everything else and pay more attention to our health we are not going to do other things if we don’t pay attention it’s about drag along at that time we may aggravate our health and then we may have to pay much much more time much more time over there so that balance rather than thinking of a static formula for balance we can have a broad plan and periodic introspection say for example I make a plan for a week and then okay in this week I have to do this, this, this, this things at the end of the week I say okay this thing came up, that’s why I couldn’t do this, next week I’ll do this so it may sometimes we may say okay I want to study shastra one hour every day it’s good if we can do it but if we can’t do that we can make a plan okay one week I’ll study seven hours or I want to hear some classes every day for one hour sometimes it may still be possible other times we can make up for that so broadly the balance is not necessarily it’s like if you have a circle we divide into four equal quadrants that is not how balance will work sometimes one quadrant may take up a huge amount of time and sometimes other quadrants may not get any time at all a very little time that’s okay and by by recognizing that we have to maintain our flow while going along with the flow of life there is a flow of life which is going in a particular direction and there is we want to go in a particular direction our flow is there so for example if the person is going in a boat in this direction and in the boat the current is in this direction so then a person is going in the boat in this direction then if the current is in this direction then we pull a little bit in this direction now if they stop rowing entirely then they just go in this direction and not go there but when the current is like that they cannot really very straight go in that direction they may just go a little bit in this direction and later on if they find the current is also in that direction they will go faster so like that we have to know that there is the current of life and there is our life There is the current in which we want our life to go. So sometimes we just have to accept that the current of life is too much in control, right? I just have to accept this. So it’s like to give a sports example, you know, in tennis, there is a player, at one time they are serving, another time they are receiving.
So now when the player is serving, at that time the player has a lot of choice. Now I can serve at left end or right end or in the middle. So the freedom is much more.
But when the player is receiving, at that time they don’t have any freedom. You know, I want to hit from the forehand, but if the ball comes on the backhand, then I have to hit on the backhand only. So a part of intelligence is to know in life when we are serving and when we are receiving.
So, if we always expect to be in the serving mood, you know, life is not like that. But it is not that all our life we are always in the receiving mood. There are times when we can and we should take initiative.
So, recognizing that when the life, when the flow of life is going in a particular way, we go along in that direction. But it is not a lifelong way to go in that direction. Other times, circumstances are more favorable.
Then we take control, we take initiative. That way we can balance in new moments. Thank you.
