Are all religions coming from the Vedas?
Question Are all religions Coming from the Vedic tradition Answer Not exactly All religions are Revolutions That means They come from God But that doesn’t mean that they have necessarily Come from The Vedic tradition itself So now of course the Veda Can have Three levels of meanings At the more restrictive level The Veda means It refers to the four Vedas At a broader level Which is the level which Prabhupada uses It refers to the broad body of knowledge Which includes Vedas, Puranas, Itihasas and supplementary Literatures also At another level, the broadest level The word Veda means knowledge So knowledge is something Which is universal So all knowledge Can be called Veda So whatever knowledge is available everywhere That is Coming from That is ultimately Coming from God And in that sense All knowledge is The So in that very broad sense of the word Veda We can say that The various religious traditions are also coming from The Vedic tradition But in general we use the word Vedic In the intermediate sense That means the Vedas and the other literature Are associated with the tradition So in that sense The other religions are Revelations but they are not Vedic revelations So They come from God but they do not come from The same channel As the Vedas The Vedas are They are Free from the four defects Because they do not come from a human being So In that sense the Prabhupada writes in the CC When he is talking about Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’s Conversation with Chandakasi That he says That the scriptures Of Those who are outside the Vedic tradition He talks about Old Testament and New Testament Quran He uses the word Shastra Scriptures for them but then he points out How logically And philosophically They are not adequate They do not explain things systematically And that’s why intelligent people are often Alienated by Such scriptures and that’s why They often become atheists or materialists So the focus should Always be on Understanding That God Can manifest in many ways But in the Vedic tradition When he manifests Then the revelation is a poor machine But when he manifests in other traditions The Prabhupada writes that other traditions Also God will use scriptures But then those scriptures are not considered infallible They can be They may not be infallible In the sense that They may not always be historically defensible They may not be Philosophically adequate in terms of Explaining things systematically And they may not be adequately Clear In describing the positive Conception of God So they are Preliminary moral codes For elevating people from one level To a higher level But they are not the highest They do not use The highest knowledge They do not use systematic knowledge And they focus more on giving moral codes That elevate people And prepare them on the journey back to God So All scriptures The various religions We understand that They are coming from God But they are customized According to NK circumstances To give knowledge That people can understand And that’s why They are not necessarily They do not necessarily have the highest knowledge And that’s why Not only highest They may not even have the complete knowledge Or very systematic knowledge But some knowledge is there People can get some level of elevation
