As some species have become extinct what happens to those souls who have desires that those species are meant to fulfill?

Every species has some kind of desires and karma  associated with it. When a living entity’s desires and karma fits to that species, he is awarded such a body. What about the extinct species? Now nobody gets such a body, does that mean nobody has such desires and karma wherein they are allowed to take those bodies?

Does that mean nobody has such desires and karma wherein they are allowed to take those bodies? Answer, the concept of extinction is inferred based on observing only the earth and only the earth for a limited amount of time and cosmic history. The Vedic scriptures describe time spans that boggle the human mind, describe not just millions but billions of years. And from the Vedic perspective, the amount of time that has been researched by modern times is just less than a blinking of an eye time.
So it may be that some species are no longer visible on planet earth, but that simply means that those species are no longer present here, but that doesn’t mean that they have become extinct. Life exists on various parts of the universe according to the particular atmospheric and environmental conditions in that part of the universe. So the 8.4 billion species refer not just to the species on the earth but in various parts of the universe.
So the various yugas are like seasons and in certain seasons certain clothes are available and certain clothes are no longer available or relevant or useful. For example, we may need warm clothes when there is winter, but warm clothes may no longer be available when there is summer. So if they have a global cloth manufacturing company with outlets all over the world, now according to the seasons, say when there is winter in northern hemisphere, warm clothes may be sold more and when there is at that time summer in the southern hemisphere, warm clothes may not be available.
Similarly material nature is like a cosmic dress manufacturing unit or a company and the body is like a dress as Bhagavad Gita 2.22 describes. So depending on the cosmic seasons, that means the kind of environmental and atmospheric conditions that are present at different periods in the universe, certain dresses are made available to the living entities and certain dresses are no longer made available. This doesn’t mean that there are no longer any living entities with those desires.
It simply means that the desires are fulfilled at some other level of existence, not necessarily the earth and not necessarily at the present time that we are living on the earth. So the concept of extinction is based on a very limited perspective of history and cosmic geography, where the various scriptures talk about principles that act across various yugas, various lokas and even various vishwas, various universes. So that is why those desires will be fulfilled in some other place.
