Bhagavatam-daily 124 – 11.08.40 – Take shelter by being materially satisfied and spiritually dynamic
And that is the resolution that Pingala is expressing in this verse thank you Pingala is continuing to speak her realizations and convictions I am satisfied being satisfied and being faithful in that lord in his mercy she had mentioned earlier so that is continued over here and being satisfied and being faithful about the lord’s mercy I will live with whatever gain I get and I will enjoy what with that lord certainly or only so I will enjoy only with him atmana ramane na vayi the word atma can refer to the soul it can also refer to the supreme lord so here it refers to supreme lord atmana ramane na vayi that lord who is the source of love and happiness ramana who is known of great delight great pleasure vayi of this it’s certain there is no doubt about this so she is continuing to express her resolution in the previous verse she said that I will avoid bad association and I will take shelter of the lord now how do I take shelter of the lord there are two aspects to it there is there is material satisfaction and there is spiritual dynamism spiritual activation spiritual aspiration so Santoshita we are meant to be happy and as souls in relationship with Krishna we are always happy but in this world the our desires get misdirected from Krishna to this world and when that happens when our desires get misdirected to Krishna to this world then we because the things of this world don’t give satisfaction so we want them more and more and more and that way we stay a Santoshita we don’t stay satisfied so when we are staying a Santoshita like this at that time if we come to spiritual life we do get some happiness but if we keep craving disproportionately for material improvement for trying to make things better and better at the material level then we lose the opportunity for making for focusing on spiritual advancement and this doesn’t mean that everybody has to become a renunciate but we have to create a overall balanced program for ourselves okay this much time I’ll give for my material activities and whatever I get in that I’ll be satisfied in that so Santoshita I’ll be satisfied that lord who has given me this detachment who has given me this inspiration to transform my life surely that lord will also give me the resources to continue living a transformed life so I’ll have faith in his mercy and whatever love whatever benefit I get or whatever resources whatever things I get by living a righteous life that I will adopt now her resolution indicates that she’s definitely going to give up her sinful profession and she’s going to live with whatever comes by living righteously means that whatever comes by its own accord you live righteously and whatever results come I’ll be happy with that I’ll be I’ll accept that but then we all have a craving for happiness so what do I do about the craving for happiness is I will direct it spiritually I’ll focus on my relationship with my lord and while focusing on my relationship with the lord what what I’ll do Viharami means I will delight how will I delight Vihar to play to delight Amuna means with that lord with that lord alone Amunaiva evaham certainly with that lord I will certainly have delight so what we need to do is we need we all need happiness we can’t live without happiness so we need to direct our search our need for happiness towards Krishna and find happiness in Krishna sometimes some sometimes we get the idea that Krishna is the enjoyer I’m not the enjoyer so I should not enjoy bhakti no that is not the idea the idea is that I should not enjoy independent of Krishna of course we are meant to be happy so when we serve Krishna and then we get some happiness in some devotional activities we should treasure that and if we find that oh I get a lot of taste in memorizing verses or I get a lot of taste in singing kirtans or I get a lot of taste in worshipping the deities then whatever gives us taste and strength we we see that as Krishna’s mercy and do that more and more so certainly there has to be overall balance in our bhakti and we do different activities in our devotion but still whatever gives us taste we can definitely do it more and more by which we will get happiness in devotion and we will get we’ll become satisfied our search our need for happiness will become satisfied within the circle of Krishna bhakti and then that need for happiness will not make us prompt us or push us to go out of the circle of Krishna bhakti so she is saying that I will delight that lord who gives great pleasure great joy now initially when we start practicing bhakti we may do whatever instructions our devotees devotees tell us to do and initially we may find all the all activities relishable but over a period of time we’ll find that we have particular nature and based on our nature there are certain activities which we are comfortable with bhakti is transcendental but we are not transcendental so whatever activities we are comfortable doing we do those more and more and by doing those activities more and more we march onwards towards Krishna we keep progressing in our devotional life that is how actually the joy of bhakti works that is actually how that is how the joy of bhakti uh floods our heart and the desire for the craving for material pleasure is diminishes now when we are practicing bhakti there are sometimes we may do certain activities and we will not get any joy in it but still we need to continue doing that activity because it’s a part of our sadhana bhakti so when we get happiness we are grateful when we don’t get happiness we see that as a opportunity for expressing our determination krishna i am in a relationship with you in the long run i’m not a fair weather devotee that when i don’t get pleasure i’ll just stop the devotion no i am a i’m in it for a long run and so even if i don’t get pleasure i’ll continue but that does not mean that i have to deliberately do the activities that are difficult for me and that don’t give me pleasure now the whole principle of an ashram was brahmanas serve krishna but by doing brahmanic activity kshatriyas serve krishna by doing kshatriya activities similarly all of us can serve krishna according to whatever activities we find best for our devotional life uh whatever nourishes most whatever gives more most taste and by that we march onwards so she is expressing which in the previous verse she said that i will take shelter of that lord i’ll go in his shelter now how i’m going to take shelter is described in this verse that i’ll be satisfied with whatever i get materially and i will delight in that lord alone in relationship with him in loving and
