Bhagavatam-daily 262 – 11.12.19 – Krishna manifests as the senses and the sense perception mechanism to ultimately spiritualize our consciousness
Bhagavatam 11 12 19 see here krishna is telling that the functions of the senses are ultimately his manifestations that means that krishna manifests in a transcendental level in his bhagavan manifestation and that is there in the spiritual world and then that manifestation sometimes comes descends to this world also as avatar but while we are in this world we need to understand that when we work with our senses we just take our capacity to work with our senses for granted but researchers have discovered how complex our sense perception mechanism is when we say see an object if we see a bird flying in front of our eyes while say we are on a morning japa walk so we see the bird flying in front of our eyes now may say oh this is a parrot it is green and it was flying from the west to the east and we just observe and note these facts but our inner mechanism is do it can well be may well be doing things which exceed far beyond the call of beauty that means so the more we recognize that actually our senses are not exactly our senses they are ultimately krishna’s property and it is krishna who is activating those senses it is krishna who is blessing us through the means of the senses it is krishna who is elevating and liberating us through the senses and even the even when we get attracted to sense objects it is krishna who is manifesting as the beauty of the sense of objects and as the right capacity of the sense objects to move anywhere either that be towards sense objects or towards krishna so krishna is aptly known as rishikesh that means the lord of the senses so we have different senses and if we study the mechanism of how the senses function it is an astonishing mechanism if we look at say something beautiful let us first consider something which is not grossly sense gratificatory then we will apply the same analysis to something which is sense gratificatory and then we will apply that to the transcendence so we see a beautiful natural scenery say mountain a lake below the mountain clouds touching the peak of the mountain and lush greenery covering the slopes in the peak of the mountain it is a very soothing scene as we drink the beauty of that scene with our eyes we will find ourselves being calmed becoming stress-free becoming alive and feeling joyful just by seeing that immense beauty and at such times what exactly is happening we are perceiving with our senses but we don’t know the mechanism of the perception the scenic mountain catches our eye and then we observe and relish so now the similar mechanism of sensory perception happens when say a person sees an obscene image now the same similarly the eyes focus on some object and visual information goes through the eyes if we know some biology then we know that they go through the retina the cornea through the optic nerve to the brain and thus we perceive now the mechanism reference is always the same but the effect is different and the perception of obscene imagery causes our consciousness to go down that we start feeling agitated we start feeling our lower side comes out or these desires become activated and thus we feel ourselves impaled towards wrong activities but either now whether it is sattvic or rajasic tamasic or whether it is transcendent if we behold the beautiful form of krishna see a very beautiful darshan and based on that darshan we feel that let me try this out let me okay let me experiment with krishna’s beauty we may not initially have faith that krishna’s beauty is transcendental but just we go and see the beauties of beautiful decorated krishna swami so charming okay let me drink as it is said in the bhagavatam about how netrai pibanti bring with the eyes that lord who is naina virama who is the giver of pleasure to the eyes then even then at least as long as the consciousness is material the mechanism for sensory perception will be the same but the effect will be drastically different the effect will be that we will get progressively elevated till we eventually become so elevated our consciousness becomes purified and then we will be perceiving krishna not just through the sensory data coming through our visual mechanisms or visual organs but we will also be perceiving krishna at a transcendental level with our transcendental senses which are awakened by the process of krita through the senses which we have by the enable of krishna by the process of sense perception whose mechanism is arranged by krishna by perceiving krishna who manifests at the material level through the beauty and other such manifestations but by this all by thus engaging our senses we can attain the lord of the senses and these the facilities and facilities for this spiritually engaging our senses are provided by krishna and it is that krishna who manifests before us
