CC daily 205 – 7.36-38 – Ensure that the Lord’s service is done, even if we can’t do it ourselves

Chaitanya Chaitanya Amrit Madhya Leela Chapter 7 Text 36 Supreme Spirit of Devotion will be demonstrating Supreme Spirit of Devotion when he goes out on South India tour of course Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu especially after he started manifesting his nature as a devotee manifesting the devotional mood he was always manifesting in an extraordinary way but in Mrignyas form it is a combination of renunciation and devotion both so renunciation that was centered and focused on devotion but just because the devotion is the culmination that did not mean that renunciation was not given due importance because it was understood that renunciation occurred especially because Chaitanya Mahaprabhu was in the renounced order of life he focused on the principle of demonstrating in an exemplary way the duties of that order and Chaitanya Mahaprabhu knows that here he is telling my dear lord when you travel though you will as a sanyasi you will not carry many possessions with you still you will have to carry some basic possessions and when you carry such basic possessions at that time it will be vital for you to have someone to take care of these possessions while you are when your consciousness is in possession of Krishna so Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’s heart was filled with Krishna the lord says in many places in the bhakti literature how he is the property of his devotee and the devotees say that I am the lord’s property Bhaktivinoda Thakur says in a Vaishnava song that I am yours you are mine I am yours and you are mine and therefore what need is there for anything else what need is there for any other possession we don’t need anything my lord apart from you so with this spirit with this mood when lord Chaitanya is travelling he will be physically and emotionally absorbed in the activities of devotion chanting of the holy name in the remembrance of Krishna and in such a situation practically as well as from the consciousness point of view it won’t be possible for him to care for his for whatever little possessions that he may be carrying he will not be able to care for them and so Nityananda is going to request now, if you don’t want to take any one of us, you feel that we will try to control you that we will make us dance as Chaitanya Mahaprabhu has said Nityananda does not repeat it but he addresses that concern of lord Chaitanya lord Chaitanya said that you will make me dance according to your tune and in that way when I make some plans and then you interfere with those plans and I get disturbed, my mind gets disturbed so Nityananda taking cognizance taking into account that point he will suggest that take someone who is not an intimate associate and who will simply act as your servant and who will assist you in your plans, not try to in any way interfere with your plans so the mode of a servant is to ensure the service gets done not who does the service each of the associates of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and Nityananda himself would have loved to have gone with lord Chaitanya on the South India tour but when they saw that the lord was not willing then they put aside that consideration that oh I want to go not just Chaitanya Mahaprabhu but all the associates put aside that consideration Lord be the servant so let someone else go quite often if we can develop this mood that we need we need it’s not important that I do the service it’s important the service gets done and with that mood we will be able to overcome whatever challenges we have whatever obstacles we have and we will be able to move onwards in our life towards Krishna in a process of steady and sustained devotion because we will be concerned not with our getting the credit but ensuring that the lord’s service gets done
