CC daily 8 – CCM 4.18-19 – The Lord’s formal, pet and titular names reveal his personal nature
Thank you So This is the chapter about Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu's Travelling towards Jagannath Puri His stay in Remuna, where he remembers Madhavendra Puri's Ecstatic pastime With the deity of Kheerchor Gopinath there So Ksheerachora Gopinath Prasiddha Tantra Nama He is saying that This particular deity Krishna Is telling us It was famed, prasiddha Celebrated by the name of Ksheerachor Gopinath Now Now in this world People Have different kinds of names One is the name That they are, that is the legal name That they are given As a legal name by their parents The other is often pet names Which are used to Abused by those who love them Often these are shortened forms of their names And they are used By intimate circle To express affection Then beyond that There are also Names which are titular That means names which become like titles So These titular names Indicate a special sense of Honor And just like Gandhiji He is called as Mahatma Gandhi So that is the title that is given So the titles are often associated With either their With some extraordinary action That those people have done So now in the In the devotional culture The Personal relation Devotional culture, the stress is always on the Personal relationship with the lord And because of this stress on a personal Relationship The key to understand The How the Substance of devotion Rests on Treating the lord as a person And When we treat the lord as a person Now it's not that just we treat him Whereas he is something else, he is a person And we By learning to treat him as a person Start harmonizing Ourselves with the highest spiritual reality So as a person Who reciprocates with other persons In his highest abode Now he has Also various kinds of names So as I said there are There are official names So we can have Krishna as the official name Or we could say more formally Vishnu Is the official name, but even if you say to the form of Krishna Krishna is his name But then Kana, Kanaiya These are all names which are affection Names which are used by the Vrajavasis to call him And apart from that There are titular names which are given Which may also have affection But they are also matter of The names which are given for celebration So for example Govardhan Dharikrishna, Giridhari Krishna So this name is given As a matter of title And That is in acknowledgement And celebration of some Extraordinary feat that he has performed Some extraordinary Activity that he has done So that is the lifting of Govardhan So now wonderfully The deities, the Lord is understood To be non-different from the deity And when the deity gets Some past times Then the deity also gets A name which becomes like a Titular addition to The deity's earlier name So now Gopinath Was the name of the deity Now if you see Gopinath itself is the name Which is coming from the lord associated with the devotees Nath is master Gopi is The cowherd maidens of Vrindavan. So Gopinath Is the name of the lord which has come by his By the past times that he Performed with his devotees, by the relationship Which he has with his most intimate devotees, the Gopis Now Well that is the, that has become More or less like a standard name for Krishna Gopinath.
Now Kshirachora Gopinath This is Kshirachor Gopinath In Bengali it is called Kshirachor In other languages The word is Kheer The point is sweet Delicacy Made with milk and rice That is usually called as Kheer. So Kshirachor Gopinath What is Kshirachora in Bengali, in other languages Especially in Hindi, in other languages it becomes Kshirachor So now This particular Deity at Remuna had got This celebrated name Of Kheerchor Gopinath Prasiddhatan Ranama It was Celebrated, the Deity was known Celebrated by the name of Kheerchor Gopinath And then This name was known and largely the Devotees of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu were curious Now some of them may have heard the story, they may not Have heard the story, it's quite likely Because the Deity was in Bengal itself and is a Bengali Vaishnava, so they had probably heard The story before, but still They were eager to hear because They all Loved, they all Loved the Lord and they wanted to hear from the Lord and they loved to hear About the Lord from the Lord So they wanted to hear from Lord Chaitanya about Their beloved Lord Krishna So Bhakta Gane Kahe Prabhu Sey Te Akhyana So Bhakta Gane Kahe, so he started Speaking to the devotee community Prabhu, that Lord started speaking Sey Te Akhyana That story So it is auspicious, it is Purifying, it is appropriate That when we are in the presence Of a Deity, we glorify That Deity, just like When we go to Meet a particular person At that time We Often, if a speaker Is coming to a new place, we introduce that speaker If we go to meet a new person, those Who are going to meet that person, we Tell them about the importance The position, the glory of that person And especially if we love That person, then we want to share the glory Of that person so that others will also love that person And if All of them love that person already Then they want to talk more and more about that person So In this particular world we see Distorted reflection of this in Say when Cricketers go for a cricket match And they expect a particular Star player there to perform And they talk about him, oh you know in this match he did like this And that match he did like this And if they are going to meet him Then they will want to talk more and more About him, praise him and Get his autograph and things like that The point is that whenever there is attraction There is naturally The expression of that attraction Through speech Chaitanya Mahaprabhu loved the Lord And naturally he wanted to speak About the story and the devotees were also eager to hear So he started speaking that story To his devotees Then So here Lord Chaitanya is speaking That Or Krishna Was not speaking right, Chaitanya Mahaprabhu did not start speaking In the past For the sake of Madhavapuri This deity Had stolen Kheer Therefore its name became Shirachorahari The deity's name The Lord now As a deity he became famous as Shirachorahari So the name itself is self explanatory But such an extraordinary name Shirachorahari What exactly does it mean? Did somebody steal Kheer for him Or did he steal Kheer for somebody If he stole how and why The name itself Creates a sense of fascination And wants and Begs for further enquiry Oh how did this name come about? What does the name imply? And so it said Purve That in the past For the sake of Madhavapuri Madhavendra Puri Now The Chaitanya Charitamrita usually refers to Madhavendra Puri as Madhavapuri So these are epithets which sometimes may be used And may not be used Just like Raghavendra may be shortened to Raghava So like that Madhavendra Puri Is often shortened to Madhavapuri Shirakailachuri So here references used to Madhavapuri And for his sake The deity of Kheerchor Gopinath Stole Kheer And therefore the name became Kheerchorahari Now the concept of A deity stealing For anyone is Radical The lord is supposed to be supremely moral And this name Is like many names of the lord Which are Which glorify By showing how he does Extraordinary things Even things which are considered wrong by the normal morality Like Krishna's name is Ranchor When he leaves the battlefield So we will discuss about this And the significance of this name As we move forward in this past time.
