CC daily 9 – CCM 4.21-25 – Devotee’s absorption attracts Krishna’s attention
Thank you Madhavendra Puri So Lord Chaitanya has heard the stories Of his grand spiritual master from his spiritual master And now he is repeating that Purveshri Madhavapuri Ayila Vrindavana So Madhavendra Puri Was a Travelling sanyasi He travelled from place to place so once he came to Vrindavan Now Vrindavan has Always been a sacred place Because Lord Krishna performed his pastimes there But over the centuries It has been Targeted Kali Yuga started A lot of things were lost at that time Especially when the Mughal rulers came it was devastated again And Especially to the Gaudiya Vaishnavas Chaitanya Mahaprabhu Sent Rupa and Sanatan They really restored Vrindavan to its glory And we can imagine That Vrindavan must have been In a relatively poor state At least from the material point of view not from the spiritual point of view Because What happened was At that time The people there did not realise What Radha Kund was It was just a small Puddle almost And Chaitanya Mahaprabhu it was who recognized That this is actually Radha Kund That is the extraordinary level to which Things had declined Now Still Before Chaitanya Mahaprabhu couple of generations ago Vrindavan was known as a holy place Although it was not A hugely developed place It was very forest and actually It doesn't have to be materially developed Even at the time of Bhaktivinoda Thakur When people would go to Vrindavan There were dacoits in that area And they would plunder whoever pilgrims would go Pilgrims would normally go with the intention of giving Some donations, some charity in Vrindavan But these were dacoits Who would plunder And Bhaktivinoda Thakur was posted in that area He actually relieved the people Of that danger by Ridding the area of the Of those dangers Of those dacoits rather So but here It is described that once Madanendra Puri Went to Vrindavan and now naturally In Vrindavan from there Where did he go? He went to Govardhan Because in Vrindavan are the Most prominent places, most dear places for the devotees There are many So Govardhan is very very dear So while wandering along Gela He went to Girigovardhana So He went to the mountain of Girigovardhana Now if we go through a parikrama Govardhan is a substantial distance away from What is called the village of Vrindavan And Vrindavan refers to that particular village It also refers to the overall Regional area So he came to Vrindavan in terms of The particular area of the village And from there he went to Govardhan Then Shaila Parikramakari Govindakundeyasi Snanakari Dixitale Achesandhaya Vasavasi So Shaila Parikramakari He did a parikrama of Govardhan Now that must have taken a lot of effort It is right now Govardhan is If you go around it is almost 21-22 km At that time And even now those who are serious pilgrims They usually go on foot So For him of course It was not exhausting, it was exhilarating It was ecstatic because He is so close to stay exalted Devotee of the lord He is actually just getting the sangha of the devotee And getting the sangha of the lord So he was delighted And as he went along Govindakundeyasi So On the Govardhan Parikramam On the Govardhan Parikramam There is a sacred spot called Govindakund So he came there Even now the Govindakund is there And there devotees Often go to remember Whenever they go they also remember the past time of Madhavendra Puri Snanakari Dixitale Achesandhaya Vasavasi So it became evening so now He, because he was exhausted After the day's Parikrama, he took a bath And then he sat Dixitale, he sat under a tree Sandhyaya Vasavasi, it is for the evening Now He The Goswamis at that time Would sleep under different trees At different nights So Madhavendra Puri of course He did not have any place to stay He just sat under a tree Now all day he had been on a Parikrama and actually He had not eaten anything So naturally his beloved Lord, Lord Krishna saw this And decided that I have to do something For my devotee So then, let's see what happened Gopala balaka eka Dugda bhanda laya, lana Asi aage dhari kichu Banila hasi, hasiya So Gopala Balaka eka, so one Cowherd boy came there And dugda bhanda laya, lana Dugda bhanda is A pot of milk Now Vrindavan is a place Where there are many Many cows And The cows are taken care of And milk, because cows are dear to Krishna Milk is dear to Krishna, cow products are dear to Krishna So in general they are available In profuse quantity And devotees also like to take them So therefore What happened here Dugda bhanda laya, lana So they took that So for this Gopala He had brought a pot of milk Asi aage dhari kichu Banila hasiya Asi aage dhari So when he was coming along He was holding something And he brought that pot And he kept it in front of him And banila hasiya And he was smiling Hasiya The smile was very enchanting From Adavendra Puri, he observed, what is happening So he Checked, watched on And then he saw that He spoke this To him Puriyei dugda lana kara tumi paana Magi kene nahi kao Kiva kara dhyana So Puriyei dugda lana Please take this milk Kara tumi paana That you should eat it Magi kene nahi kao You have Not asked for anything You have not eaten anything Kiva kara dhyana What kind of meditation are you doing Even from the standards of Vrindavan The meditation that Madhavendra Puri was doing Was extraordinary What he was doing was Ajgar vritti as it will come to later But Here the point is Even from Vrindavan standards It was extraordinary that how How as a mendicant You are not asking for any food You are sitting and meditating So kiva kara dhyana What kind of meditation are you doing That you are lost so much in the meditation That you don't even think of eating food You don't even think of planning how to get food Normally This will be something which is very intriguing Imagine if everybody is sitting for a feast And suddenly one of the persons who is sitting All for the feast gets lost in thought And the feast is there in front of the person Uneaten And everybody is watching Why is this person not eating the feast So people will naturally wonder And so In this case of course there was no food in front of him But it was Natural question that won't people need food So he asked this question Kiva kara dhyana What kind of trance are you doing We actually aspire For this kind of dhyana Whereas here Madan is so absorbed in Krishna That he doesn't even think of food Doesn't even think of bothering about food For us it is quite opposite Kiva kara dhyana We are chanting the holy names And we are thinking about food We are hearing Bhagavatam class And we are thinking about sleep So Kiva kara dhyana means what kind of meditation is this You are seeming to do one meditation And you are doing some other meditation That is actually the misfortune of our conditioning at present But still By Krishna's mercy Even if our dhyana is distracted Still the attempt to do dhyana Will be pleasing to the Lord And if we keep striving to do dhyana Over a period of time By the Lord's mercy We will also become absorbed in Krishna And as we become absorbed in him We will relish the absorption And then hopefully We will also come one day to a level Where the worldly Necessities and pleasures Don't distract us We are so absorbed in Krishna That This question will be asked Kiva kara dhyana What kind of dhyana are you doing.
