CC daily 99 – M 6.104 – The Lord establishes peace without by demonstrating renunciation of that which disrupts peace within
Thank you extract from the Vishnu Sahasrana which is a part of the Mahabharata and it is being quoted here by Gopinath Acharya as a pramana for the fact that there is an incarnation of the lord in Kalyuga and that incarnation is lord Chaitanya this is being arrived at through a chain of references and this particular verse refers to some attributes of lord Vishnu suvarna varna he mango suvarna varna golden complexion and golden body so complexion here refers more to like an aura and the body refers to the body itself, so suvarna varna he mango, so like that there is a double reference of gold suvarna is also gold and he mango is also gold the point is that golden complexion is so special and so extraordinary that it deserves a double mention varangas chandanangadi chandanangadi so varangas anga is mentioned again the body vara is great beautiful, blessed extraordinary, so he has an extraordinary form, chandanangadi chandanangadi this lord smears sandalwood on himself sanyas kruch one who took a sanyas ashram chamah shanto chamah chamah is actually because c is there previously so when c is followed by s that changes to c its chamah over here chamah means one who is peaceful one who is fully controlled in the mind shantah chamah actually refers to inner peacefulness means peacefulness at the level of the mind shantah refers to external disposition in terms of one’s conduct nishtha shanti parayanah so parayanah is devoted to nishtha shanti so this refers to how is committed as faith is devoted to peace so is himself peace and is devoted to establishing peace now if you go to the vishnu sahasranam this comes, this text comes in two parts, they are not continuous so comes in one place and a few words later sanyasa kuchchamah shanto nishtha shanti parayanah comes later so this verse is being used to point towards Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’s divinity Chaitanya Mahaprabhu was of course a channa avatar and that’s why there is no explicit mention about him but despite the absence of any explicit verses in the main scriptures there are verses of course in some of the other scriptures but the point is that golden complexion is quite a strong point, Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is himself celebrated for his golden complexion and he is often known as gauranga or gaurachandra and the golden complexion is not just incidental that gauranga, the gaura of gauranga comes from gaurangi, that is shimdhiradharani who also has a golden complexion as we say in the standard prayer that we recipher tapthakanchana gaurangi golden complexion and how is that like? that is like molten gold so when Krishna desired to taste the sweetness of the love of shimdhiradharani the greatness of her love the qualities within him that she relishes the joy that she feels when she sees that Krishna reciprocates her love that taste is mentioned here that at that time when he decided to taste that love he took her complexion as well as her he took her emotion as well as her complexion so radha bhavati sulitam now meet Krishna radha bhavati so he took the emotion as well as the complexion of shimdhiradharani and he descended now suvarnavana hemango varangas chindanangat varangas actually chidambaram was formed extraordinarily beautiful, tall, majestic golden limbs and one of the forms, one of the things that attracted people to him when they saw him was his form and one of the primary attractions because the form was so stunning and further chindanangati chindanangati may not be specifically descriptive but because applying sandalwood paste to a respectable person is one of the standard ways of greeting or honouring person so chandan is applied to the deities and it is also applied to individuals sanyasakruch shamasham sanyasakruch is quite a distinctive feature so the lord, supreme lord is the enjoyer he enjoys a transcendental level and for that lord to renounce is extraordinary so when he renounces it becomes a great news it becomes something very special and sanyasakruch actually this lord bisigar chaitanya mahaprabhu took sanyas so that the message that he was going to give would have the respectability that is accorded to the sanyasa ashram that is the contextual reason for saying sanyas along with that there is also his purpose of demonstrating how one should utterly devote oneself to the lord and become lost in the lord practically and here in sanyasakruch actually the lord taking sanyas is such an extraordinary event after all why would that person who is a supreme enjoyer become a renouncer and of course when he becomes a renouncer he becomes a supreme renouncer as daskarraj Goswami says in chaitanya charitamrti he becomes the crest jewel of renunciates sanyasakruch chamah shanto chaitanya mahaprabhu’s sense control was phenomenal mind control was phenomenal his complexion and disposition were unflappable by anything material of course transcendental energy was very very intensely emotional and actually that intense spiritual emotion is the way to sustain lasting peace so when it is said nishtha shanti paraya he was devoted to establishing peace how does he do that actually by spreading the chanting of the holy names by sharing the mission of chanting the things that agitate us internally and thereby cause us to agitate externally become agitated externally those things countered by chaitanya mahaprabhu peace was established not just by making peace treaties or negotiations but also primarily by removing internally things that agitate us and the things that disrupt peace so the fundamental peace disruptor is our disharmonious desire so as long as we have the desire to enjoy selfishly the desire to enjoy separate from the lord that desire then transmogrifies into various other selfish desires such as lust, anger, greed envy, pride and illusion and they make us and others make everyone act in ways that destroy peace so vijayatani mahaprabhu is himself absorbed in krishna he is krishna and he is demonstrating how one can be absorbed in krishna so internal peace and external peaceful disposition external and internal peace comes by staying absorbed in krishna staying absorbed in the absolute truth and he propagates the message of chanting and message of bhakti yoga by which we all can become harmonized with the absolute truth and in that way we can all become peaceful internally and thereby contribute to establishing peace externally
