Do we get a part of the karma if we see an animal being slaughtered?
Question from Sima Sarogi Mataji I once heard that one sixth reaction of killing a cow goes to the government similarly there are others who get reactions so when we see a cow or a goat or any other animal being carried away and we know that it is going to be slaughtered do we also get the reaction if we are in a position to save the animal and if we are not in a position to save the animal answer it is mentioned in the Mahabharata that one part of the reaction to animal slaughter goes to those who sanction the slaughter of the animals so that could in the ultimate sense the good and bad and of the bad karma that is performed over there in his jurisdiction by the citizens so in principle it is true that the government will get some reaction so will that extend to all those who observe in general when we are involved in practicing devotional service in Kali Yuga there are so many contaminated activities happening in this world at this time that it is practically impossible for us to avoid getting contaminated in some way or the other so some level of contamination will be there because we are just living in such a sinful age so that is a part of say the mass karma that happens there is individual karma and there is mass karma mass karma refers to what general mass of people have to suffer because of being a part of a community or a society that at a mass level at a group level is performing or sanctioning or participating in some way in such sinful activities so if we start thinking about every sinful thing that is happening and whether we will get the karma of that then we will become paranoid we will become extremely fearful even when we take medicines as far as possible we can try to involve meat but sometimes the ingredients may not be revealed accurately and we may think a medicine is green it contains vegetarian ingredients and it may not contain so as devotees on the devotional path certainly the four aggregate principles is what we follow we don't ourselves commit those sinful activities and beyond that we focus on raising people's consciousness by making them aware of the transcendental principles and practices of Krishna consciousness and that will inspire them to give up sinful activities automatically as a by-product of that raised consciousness however if we if we base our all our decisions on whether this will entangle me in karma or not will this give me some karmic reaction first of all it's very practically very difficult to avoid karmic reactions or because of some sort of karmic association and secondly it is a very to some extent self-centered calculation when a spiritual master accepts disciples if he thinks whether I'll get their karma then the spiritual master will never accept disciples the spiritual master is concerned how can I benefit people and then we have the attitude of benefiting people naturally Krishna helps in taking away whatever reactions may come so with respect to the specific issue of animal slaughter generally speaking if an animal is being slaughtered is about being taken to be slaughtered we will not have much power to stop that if we have the power to stop that and if we.
