Does initiation change the gotra of a person?

Question from Manobhiram Prabhu Does the Gotra of a person get changed by Initiation? The answer is no The gotra doesn't get changed Because the gotra is A material characteristic And just as If We take initiation from Even from a bona fide Vaishya Sampradaya It is not that Our other material characteristics get changed If I have a dark complexion Suddenly I become fair It is not that I am tall, I become short So these are bodily characteristics which are A result of our Past Karma and our past material Circumstances So if I have particular Surname from my Earlier background So just because I become initiated Does that mean that my surname becomes invalid Or my connection with a particular Family becomes invalid Not at all So the gotras are basically Descending from great sages In the past So that's how there are various gotras And these gotras are They Encompass all of humanity So all of us Belong to some specific gotras And at a Material level Our body has come from Our parents and if we go back Down the chain of ancestors We will go to a particular gotra And that as a material Fact will remain the same But From the devotional perspective We can say that the process Of devotional service makes a person Transcendental to material Designations So just as we can say that a devotee might have Been born in a shudra family But after becoming a devotee he is no longer a shudra Or a devotee is born in a Brahmana family And then a devotee actually goes beyond Being a brahmana also He becomes a Vaishnava So in that sense We could say that A devotee goes Beyond the gotra In that sense we could say that The devotee transcends even the gotra But we shouldn't say Transcend in terms of negating It is transcend In terms of getting something more Which might not have been available in the gotra Just like if If Sometimes people differentiate that this is American guru and this is the Indian guru And Indian gurus are more Advanced than American gurus So this is offensive mortality This Vaishnava jati buddhi But at the same time It is a material just because The person has become a Vaishnava Does that mean that that person's History of being born in India Or born in America becomes negated No It becomes transcended not negated Transcended means to go Beyond to add something That takes us beyond what was there Earlier So earlier one person was Indian another person was American But now both have become connected With the eternal reality Which makes Their material Nationality irrelevant For the Purposes of understanding And sharing devotional service But at the same time at the material Level that identity remains And to Reject or negate That identity is not what is required What is required is to understand That a Vaishnava Is not limited by his material Body identity It is not that somebody is just American after that person becomes A devotee or especially advanced Devotee like that Devotee is still When a person becomes a devotee of Vedic initiation that person Gets a Devotional connection With the eternal spiritual reality that Goes beyond the Gotra that transcends The Gotra So because something more is added to the Gotra Therefore The Gotra in that sense becomes Transcended but transcending is not The same as negating Or rejecting Negating means to say that something is false Rejecting means to say that I give it up Rather transcending means Something more is added to what was Pre-existing and what is added Is actually far more Important than what was pre-existing Just as If a person is a spiritual master If he is an advanced devotee And he is a guru Then his advanced devotion Is far more important than nationality But then the nationality still Remains as a fact But it is an unimportant or irrelevant Fact So in that sense we can understand that A devotee Transcends the Gotra The Gotra becomes irrelevant But it is not that the devotee Has to negate or reject the Gotra Whatever hereditary Connections we have at a bodily level We can respect that but we also Should not Let ourselves be limited by that Or think that they comprise a Limitation for us in the practice of our devotional service.
